1st semi final: England vs Australia

Dussey's flying over, don't even know if he'd make it. Also, stfu, Hopes is so underrated, FC average of like 30 with the ball.

I hope Australia's middle order batting improves.

1)Watson
2)Paine
3)Ponting
4)Mussey
5)White
6)Ferguson
7)Dussey
8)Johnson
9)Lee
10)Hauritz
11)Siddle.

I think it's time, we get rid of Hopes and bring in Dussey. His big hitting can be useful at no.7.

Err, dude. Hopes is one of the most underrated bowlers, one of the best bowled in ODI cricket at the moment. Our bowling there is crap, we would get slapped around without Hopes to keep it tight. He gets wickets, and he gets wickets for the other end. If Dave Hussey plays, he's gotta be batting 4, 5 or 6, and bowling 5 overs max, if needed.

Therefore, at full strength:
Haddin +
Watson
Ponting *
White
Ferguson
M Hussey
Hopes
Johnson
Lee
Hauritz
Siddle

I think Hopes' bowling is useful but I don’t think he has shown enough with the bat at international level to warrant a spot in the side as an all-rounder.

Dussey or Hopes, doesn't bother me to much. In Centurion I reckon Hopes would be a handful with the ball, a seamer's pitch.

Hussey would find the conditions easy to bat in, and blast some runs down the order.

Your pick, Andrew....

What happens in england if england win the champions trophy?

woof, pretty interesting to imagine it. :p

Go Australia. >:D hehe, just want them to win. Nothing else. :p

If England win there will be an apocalypse. End of story.

With our top order, and a fairly strong tail, hes more than capable at 7. He's saved us a few times, and got us to a big score with quick runs at the end. He's good.

We'll scratch our arses and roll over.

I don't see the point of having a good batsman at 7 if you've only got one worthwhile bowler in your top 7. Especially if 8 and 9 can pick up the slack with the bat, too. If you're depending on the batting that far down to make a big score consistently, you are doing it wrong.

Get the bowling right. The tail are competent if the top 6 stuff up. I don't see any issues with Hopes considering the lack of options. The good thing is we do have that 6-1 psychological barrier. Plus their lynch pin is Anderson who seems to suffer a inferiority complex against us. No offence to the lad but he bowls pies whenever we exert a bit of pressure. Strauss, Shah, Collingwood and Morgan are the danger men. England's best chances are a Strauss century, Shah and Morgan blitz with Colly playing the anchor innings.

World Cup runs on the same format.

All knockout tournaments are about is finding out who the best side is on the day. If it was just the best sides going through, tournaments would be pointless.

2-round group stages would be difficult to fit in an already very packed schedule.

Except that the World Cup has a Super 6 /8 stage where there is additional matches to be played in order to qualify for the semis.

Hopes bowling option is great to have but he doesn't have the temperament to stay in when the going gets tough. We have had 3 collapses in the past fortnight with Hopes not featuring in any of them. If Watson was contributing and Ferguson/White were more experienced it wouldn't be such a big issue but neither is true. Atm we are better off with the extra batter and relying on our 5 bowlers do get the job done.

Anyway we won't make any changes so we should at least move White to 4 as he needs time to get in while Hussey is the best in the business when it comes to steadying the ship. Johnson above Hopes, Johnson needs more time to come in and shouldn't have the pressure of having only 3 wickets remaining when he gets to the crease.

This will be my lineup :)

Paine
Watson
Ponting
Hussey
White
Dussey
Hopes
Johnson
Lee
Hauritz
Siddle
