5th Test: England vs Australia at the Brit Oval

To me he looks technically sound because he looks comfortable and he's not giving chances. A 50 here would be a huge thing for him, and for the team, because it's 40 odd more runs than we could hope for from Bopara at one time. Bopara will be back, no doubt, but Trott should be in the team too.

There's a difference between looking comfortable and being technically sound. I agree Trott's looked comfortable, but it's not a sound technique that's allowed him to look comfortable.

Trott should replace Collingwood permanently for me. Collingwood's technique is looking worse and worse everytime he bats, he keeps poking outside off-stump and edging behind, and you can be as gritty and detirmined as you like, but if you're batting like he is, then he deserves to be dropped. Been awful since the 50 under zero pressure at Lords. With KP back and either Moore or Denly opening in place of Cook we'd have a far stronger side I believe. Might as well keep Bell at 3, he did alright today.

Then you misunderstand me, I'm saying that Trott is looking happy and comfortable with his technique, so he's "technically sound". I don't know about you, but I've already got him on my squad for the South Africa tour.

Last 10 overs have been very much costly for Aus,they got a wicket in thsoe overs but they gave away 54 runs! Offcouse the main attraction on the ground is Flintoff,he is out there for his last test, very interesting period this for both teams,if Aus manages to get rid of Flintoff early then already they have managed to get 2 wickets so far in this session + if they get wicket of Flintoff they would be happy for sure...

He's definitely in my squad, and in my XI for South Africa. His technique is not solid though, and can see him being a massive lbw candidate early in his innings. He walks across his stumps way too far, and unlike KP he doesn't appear to have the talent and hand-eye co-ordination to get away with it. You can tell he's in form though, as he's playing the ball nicely, my worry would be that as soon as he drops in form slightly, his technical issues will become glaring, like with Pietersen and his struggles with the full, swinging ball this summer.

"Here you are Australia. I know you're not bowling all that well and you're setting mega-defensive fields but you look like you need a wicket and today's your lucky day because I don't know how to apply myself. I'll just waft at the next ball I face.

Yours faithfully,

The England Middle Order"

The worrying thing is, the same players will travel to south africa, and it will start all over again. In fact, we'll be saying this in 2011 i expect.

Good shout by Watson, top of leg, perhaps highlighting the points about Trott's lbw chances... but then he's out anyway!

Cue the Swann/Broad show again!

Oh and Swann must be itching to get out on this pitch to have a bowl! Get some runs first eh, Swanny?
If the pitch is breaking up this quickly, we surely must get a result from this game. I reckon this'll end up being a low scoring one. Damn, we need a second spinner on this!
