Union Cave
I entered the cave with a bit of trepidation, but it wasn't as dark as Dark Cave. It looked pretty long however. There was one Pokemon in here that I didn't have previously, and I caught a level 6 Sandshrew to add to my collection.
The trainers in this cave had a number of Pokemon that I had never encountered before, and I had to look them up in my Pokedex. Using this I was able to find their weaknesses and target them, so it wasn't too difficult getting through the cave. There were heaps of wild Pokemon however, and I would be stopped by one every few steps which was very irritating. Finally I reached the end of the cave and stepped out into the fresh air...and the rain
Route 33
This route has year round rain it would seem, which is rather depressing. There weren't any new wild Pokemon on this route, but there was one Hiker, who Togetic took care of easily. I headed towards the next gym town - Azalea Town.
Azalea Town
Upon entering the town, I came across two people fighting. One was wearing some weird uniform with a R sign on it and it appeared that they were Team Rocket. The Team Rocket pushed the other guy away, and he promptly ran off. Talking to the Team Rocket guy, he told me that I wasn't allowed to go into the Slowpoke Well, which was rather saddening. I got all pumped up and headed to the gym to get my next badge, but there was a Team Rocket guy there too! What killjoys. Seeing as there wasn't much to do here apparently, I talked to the citizens who were kind enough to let me come into their houses. In one of them I found the person who had been pushed away by the Team Rocket guy. He told me all about their organisation and then headed off to fight them again. I decided that since he was pretty old I better follow him.
Slowpoke Well
Apparently Kurt had managed to make the guy at the top run away, but he had gone and fell down the well...what an idiot. He told me to go deal with Team Rocket myself. I figured that this was the only way for me to fight the gym so I agreed to help. The Rocket Grunts all seemed to own similar Pokemon - Rattatas, Ekans and Zubats, which were rather weak and easy to beat. Finally I came up against Proton, who seemed to be leading these guys. He not only had a Zubat, but a rather strong Koffing as well. However, like the other Team Rocket Pokemon, he was an easy-beat. While I was down here I managed to catch a Slowpoke of my own.
With Team Rocket defeated, Kurt offered to make Pokeballs for me and gave me a Fast Ball for helping him. It also meant that there was no one guarding the gym and I could get my second badge!
Azalea Town
I decided that before I went to fight the gym I would go check out the building on the west-most side of the town. As I made my way towards it though I was stopped by my rival, Bob. He somehow couldn't believe that I had beat Team Rocket and demanded a challenge. He appeared to have strengthened his Pokemon considerably since the last time we met, opening with a Gastly. Totodile used Bite, which was super-effective, killing him in one shot. Next, his Bayleef came out. I countered with my own Gastly. Because of Gastly's ghost typing, Bayleef's grass moves weren't very effective, and I managed to defeat it using Night Shade. It was quite annoying however, because it knew Synthesis which healed its hp. Finally, out came Zubat. Totodile dispatched of it easily. Now with that test of my powers over, I could challenge the gym with confidence.
Azalea Gym
This gym was weird with random spiders transporting me all over the gym. The trainers here used bug Pokemon, which are generally pretty weak. The initial trainers were pretty easy to beat, and had me very confident for Bugsy. On the way, Totodile evolved into Croconaw which was nice. I also encountered my first double battle which was interesting. After navigating the puzzle I was standing in front of Bugsy, the second gym leader.
Bugsy opened with Scyther, one of the best bug Pokemon around. I sent out Gastly to put Scyther to sleep which worked great. Scyther was unable to do anything to counter Gastly's Night Shade. However, he woke up shortly before Gastly could land the final blow, and used U-Turn to switch out for Kakuna. Kakuna has pretty low attack and couldn't really do much damage to Gastly, and was easily overcome. Bugsy sent Scyther back in, so I sent out Togetic to try and land the final blow. Scyther finally went down, and Bugsy sent his (?) last Pokemon in, Metapod. Metapod is similar to Kakuna, with pretty poor attack, so I sent Gastly in to finish Bugsy off. Metapod's only damaging attack is Tackle, which doesn't affect the ghost-type Gastly, and he was very easy to take down. Taking down Bugsy had turned out to be easier than I thought, with Croconaw not being needed at all. For this, I received the Hive Badge and TM89, U-Turn. I was really pleased with my effort, and couldn't wait until I could get to Goldenrod City and grab my next badge.
I'm going to explore Goldenrod for a bit. So that involves getting the radio card, bike, and going through Goldenrod Tunnel to battle the trainers there.
Wait, so are we going to include Goldenrod City in the next update. Cause I'm up to Goldenrod right now and had spent about an hour last night while watching the footy trying to get my Togepi's happiness up and train him at the same time. He bloody wouldn't evolve though.
It was time to move on again, but I picked up my poke balls from Kurt, love balls. I?d test them out when I got the chance but apparently, they gave a higher chance of catching a pokemon if they are of the opposite gender to your pokemon. I then left Azelea Town, but decided to keep Togepi out of its poke ball, hoping to evolve it, despite its cuteness.
Ilex Forest
I made my way in to Ilex Forest and there seemed to be a fair few wild pokemon about, so I gave my Togepi some training, while also catching a Caterpie. Some guy stopped me a couple of corners around, going on about how his boss was going to be angry. He told me that his Farfetch?d that cut trees for charcoal had took off and asked me to catch them for him. I said that I would and walked off trying to find them. The Farfetch?d seemed very easy to catch as I snuck up behind it and took it, taking it back to the guy. He then told me that one more was missing though. I walked on and found a revive while looking for the Farfetch?d. It was harder to catch than the first but I picked it up after a bit of thinking. The guy then thanked me for catching both of them. Another guy then came up to me and thanked me as well, but also gave me the HM01, Cut, which allowed pokemon to cut small trees. I then went back to Azalea Town and healed my Togepi while grabbing my Sandshrew to teach Cut to. I also went back to the Charcoal making place, since he had told me that he?d give me a job as an apprentice. The guy seemed to forget he said it though, but gave me a Charcoal instead, which made fire type moves more powerful. That would help my Quilava, so I gave it to him to hold straight away, before heading off again. I picked up an ether as well before running into a guy who seemed to be headbutting a tree. He told me he was headbutting a tree and that he?d teach the move Headbutt to any of my pokemon so I let him teach it to Sandshrew. I used headbutt on a tree and a pokemon came out, the first a Hoothoot. I ended up just walking off though, as I made my way to the exit of the forest.
Route 34
I went through the building and talked to the women there who noticed my pokemon and gave me the TM, Taunt. It wasn?t really a useful TM but I didn?t mind and kept going, onto Route 34. There were a few trainers around so I used it as training for my pokemon. I found Lyra who told me to follow her inside a house, which seemed to be a daycare. She told her grandma about me and she assumed that I was her boyfriend, which Lyra got all defensive at, but she gave me her number before she left. I decided to leave my Onix in the daycare, since I wasn?t really using it at that time and it seemed to be a fair pokemon to have. I then went out and trained my pokemon a little more and as my Pidgey grew to level 18, it evolved into a Pidgeotto. I also managed to catch a Ditto, while I was there, which was pretty good since it could transform into anything. I trained my Togepi while running with it for a while before I picked up my Onix from the daycare and payed $700 for it. I then made my way into Goldenrod City, reading to take on the next gym leader.
