A Heart of Gold: A Pok?mon Story
Iridium - Part 7

With my victory against Bugsy, I now had two badges. A quick rest at the Pokemon Centre in Azalea Town and I was ready to go. Next stop: Goldenrod City

Azalea Town
On the way to Goldenrod, I would have to pass through Ilex Forest. As I was about to enter the gatehouse that led to the forest, I heard a yell. It was my rival, Daniel, the lowlife that stole Chikorita from Professor Elm. He had heard that Team Rocket had been run out of town. When I mentioned that it was thanks to me and my Pokemon, he didn't buy a word of it. This got him all very angry and I was challenged to a battle.

A Gastly was sent out as my first opponent and I responded with Totodile. Being a gas, Gastly was difficult to hit. However, I discovered that for some unknown reason, Bite seems to be super effective. Totodile chomped down on Gastly and Daniel was forced to send out another Pokemon.

I was expecting him to send out his stolen Chikorita but instead he sent out a Bayleef. He must have been doing something right for it to evolve. I recalled Totodile and sent out my Spearow. I called for a Peck attack and it stunning Bayleef. It used Razor Leaf but Spearow was able to dodge it. It then used Synthesis, which restored it's HP. Spearow went in for another Peck attack but was hit with Bayleef's Poisonpowder. I chuckled to myself at the fact that Spearow gets poisoned so often but I could afford to laugh for this time I was prepared. I used a Full Heal and just as that was done, Spearow was hit with a critical Razor Leaf. Spearow had fainted.

I called on Mareep next and tried the tactic I used against Bugsy's Scyther: paralysis. Mareep used ThunderShock and the paralysis set in. But Bayleef was tough and in its affliction, it managed to loose a Razor Leaf attack, dealing critical damage and knocking out Mareep. That didn't go at all well.

I called upon my strongest Pokemon, Totodile. We had to battle smart due to my Totodile's type disadvantage. However, Bayleef was struggling to fight the paralysis which Mareep inflicted, so this evened the playing field slightly. Totodile used Bite and clung onto Bayleef. Bayleef tried to shake Totodile off but it was no use. Totodile eventually did let go but not before using Scratch. The exertion of trying to shake Totodile off coupled with its paralysis was too much for Bayleef, and he finally gave in.

Daniel's last Pokemon was a Zubat, which Totodile easily took out.

After that tough battle my Totodile started to glow. It was evolving.

This didn't impress Daniel. He ranted on about how he hates weak Pokemon, weak people, weak everything. On that basis he should really hate himself. After this he stormed off.

A quick trip to the Pokemon Centre, and I was ready to resume my journey.

Ilex Forest
It was definitely a lot darker in here than I thought it would be. The canopy of the trees cut out the sunlight, leaving the forest quite dim. I carried on my way and came across a boy who looked a bit worried. I asked what was wrong. Apparently, the Farfetch'd he used to cut tree down for charcoal wouldn't obey him and ran off. He asked if I wouldn't mind looking for them. So off I went to look for the Farfetch'd. I managed to sneak up behind it and catch it, and took it back to the kid. Only then did he proceed to tell me that there was another one out there. Great. So off I went again. The second Farfetch'd was a bit trickier to corner but I eventually got it. Both Farfetch'd were now back with the kid and in good time too, as his boss showed up. He thanked me for getting his Pokemon back and gave me HM01 (Cut). I taught it to my Bellsprout, cut down a small tree and I was on my way.

Along the way I caught of the Kimono girl I saw in Violet City. I approached her and she seemed confused when I said where I saw her last. Hmm, must have been mistaken. She was lost but my Pokemon pointed her in the right direction. Nearby was a man who was headbutting a tree. This was all very odd until I found out why he was doing it. Using Headbutt on a tree sometimes shakes out Pokemon. He taught Headbutt to Croconaw, and I gave it a whirl. Out fell a Hoothoot who was trying to sleep. I fought it and caught it [HOOTHOOT | M | Lvl 4].

As I was nearing the exit to the forest, the egg I was holding glowed bright. It was hatching!

In the gate house, a lady very kindly gave me TM12 (Taunt). It wasn't overly useful to me but it was a nice gesture nonetheless.

Route 34
The were a few trainers on this route so it was a good chance to do a bit of training after all that travelling. Things went smoothly, with my Pokemon showing their battle prowess. In the grass, I came across an Abra [ABRA | M | Lvl 10] and a Drowzee [DROWZEE | F | Lvl 10].

Up ahead was a Pokemon daycare and who should I see but my best friend Lyra. She introduced me to her grandparents who run the daycare. I got their numbers along with Lyra's and walked towards the city. Just before the city, there was a Camper, Todd, who wanted to battle. Against the Camper at the entrace to the city, my Mareep battled a defeated his Psyduck, triggering her evolution

I reached the Pokemon Centre, healed my Pokemon and withdrew my Abra and added it to my team.

Today had been a good day. But I was absolutely wasted. It was getting late, so exploring Goldenrod City would have to wait till the morning.

Pretty sure you can't buy coins anymore. It's that Voltorb Flip game which is so ridiculously easy. Highest level I've got is 6. Not sure how far it goes.

oh that's annoying. Looks like I'll be spending quite a bit of time playing the slots too then...

Honestly, it's so easy. I'll see how quickly it takes for me to get the coins I need for Dratini.

I haven't tried Ilex forest yet... waiting to play during the day so I can catch a Hoppip :p

Why didn't you catch one on the route before Union Cave? I got my one there.

Because I've only played during the night. There are some in the rainy part, just before Azalea.

Oh yea. Just change the time on your DS.

I just realised I don't want the game corner Dratini. I like the one from the Elder in Blackthorn 'cause it has ExtremeSpeed.

Takes too long to get, and I don't think I'd keep extremespeed on it anyway.

Well I bought myself a Dratini :p

I get annoyed though when I have 2 things to go and I have to guess and then get a Voltorb and lose. I got up to level 5 a few times before I kept losing. The game is a fair bit like Minesweeper though.

I am awesome at minesweeper. I should be able to get lots of coins then :D
