A Heart of Gold: A Pok?mon Story (Chewie v Iridium v Hedger)

Tauros are pretty common. Relatively speaking. 5% I think.

Looking for Yanma or Snubbul is annoying though. 1% I think I'll just flag catching them...

Yeah, couldn't find Yanma. And haha, out of the first 3 pokemon I ran into, 2 were Snubbull's. I was thinking "Are you sure it is 1%." I haven't ran into one since though.

And haha, another Tauros and another critical hit. Luckily it was the first turn though and left him on red HP, so it was easy to catch.

----------

btw, where should we go after Ecruteak City?

Up to Olivine Lighthouse? Or Clanwood City and then do the gym in the next update.

I would prefer shorter periods cos then it's easier for me to play it in one sitting and write it up

Ok, we'll go up to (and including) Olivine Lighthouse. And btw, you should just focus on getting your updates done rather than catching every pokemon :p

I'm not even looking to catch every Pokemon unless I want it in my team. Sometimes I try to avoid grass 'cause the random encounters get on my nerves.

But I want to catch 'em all :(

I've been competing in the Pokethlon. Won the power badge twice but can't win any of the others.

I don't think I can get a Shiny stone until much later though? I might have to trade one in or something :spy

I don't think I can get a Shiny stone until much later though?

Yeah, it's annoying. You can only get the Shiny Stone after you beat the Elite 4 and then the Shiny Stone will be available from the Pokeathlon. For now, I'll just have to settle with Togetic.

@ Iridium, it's called using repel's ;)

A Heart of Gold: A Pokmon Story
Iridium - Part 10

My Abra had evolved and after their late training session, me and my Pokemon were spent. A trip to Pokemon Centre was in order

Ecruteak City
Upon entering the Pokemon Centre, a man came from the upper level and spoke to the nurse. He saw he was blocking my way and apologised and said he had finished making some modifications to a Time Capsule he made. He said to visit him in Goldenrod if I had the time and left. Bill was the man who made the PC Pokemon Storage System, so I was definitely going to visit him. I handed my Pokemon to the nurse and rested up for the night.

Goldenrod City
The next morning, I headed back to Goldenrod to see Bill. I was regretting not asking for his address and seeing as how Goldenrod was a massive city, it wasn't going to be easy to find him. However, after asking some people who were passing by, I eventually found it.

Bill invited me in and, amazingly, he offered me a Pokemon. How could I turn that down?

180px-133Eevee.png

Eevee | M | Lvl 5

I thanked him for the Eevee, spoke a little, and then left to head back to Eckruteak.

National Park
Since, it was still early in the morning, I went through the Park to give Spearow some more training. Along the course of the training, I caught a Sunkern. [SUNKERN | M | Lvl 12]. But the best part was when my Spearow evolved.

220px-022Fearow.png

Spearow evolved into Fearow!

Ecruteak City
Spurred on by my Pokemon's evolution, I arrived back in Ecruteak. I caught wind of a man in the city who had a device that could pick up hidden items. I found the man and he was more than happy to give a Dowsing MCHN.Sweet.
Kimono Dance Theater
Now I'm no fan of dance or any of that sort of thing, but since I was here I might as well check it out. Upon entering, who do I see but a Team Rocket crony.
I thought I had seen the last of them in Azalea Town. He seemed to be harassing one of the Kimono dancers and that didn't fly with me. I confronted him and he challenged me to battle. He might as well not have bothered as my Kadabra took out his Koffing with one Confusion attack. This got him worried and he left in double quick time.

The Kimono girl thanked me and one of the people in the audience came up and gave an HM03 (Surf) for my bravery.

After the drama at the Dance Theater, I made my way to Gym. But inevitably, the Gym Leader wasn't there but at the Burned Tower. Goodness sake.

Burned Tower
I was a bit annoyed that Leader wasn't at the Gym, but when I saw what was inside the Burned Tower, that frustration was replaced with awe. There was a massive hole in the floor and down below, there were three Pokemon standing there, Pokemon I had never seen before. A man called Eusine came over and introduced himself and the Pokemon below. They were legendary Pokemon: Entei, Raikou and the one he was particularly focussed on, Suicune. Along with Eusine was the Gym Leader, Morty. It seemed like he was going to be here for a while so I thought I'd have a look around.

Across the room, I saw a familiar face: Daniel. He was in his typical good mood and without a polite hello, challenged me to battle.

Gastly was first out and first knocked out as my Kadabra's Confusion was too much for it. Next up was Bayleef. This was a great test for my Growlithe.

Bayleef seemed to be intimidated by Growlithe, so Growlithe immediately had an edge to go with his type advantage. Growithe used Flame Wheel which damaged Bayleef quite badly. Bayleef healed with Synthesis but it's reluctance to attack would prove to be its downfall. The next Flame Wheel attack dealt critical damage and Daniel's strongest Pokemon was done and dusted.

The rest of the battle proved to be very easy. Zubat got its wings clipped my a jolt from Flaaffy and Magnemite was shaken by Geodude's Magnitude.

After yet another whine, he scooted off. Good riddance. Behind where Daniel was, there was a ladder leading down to the lower level where the legendary Pokemon were. This was a prime opportunity to get a closer look.

After climbing down, I tried to creep slowly towards the legendary trio, careful not to make too much noise. Perhaps I was breathing too loud, for they sensed my presence. Entei and Raikou were gone in the blink of an eye. Suicune, however, sped aorund the room before stopping right in front of me. Suicune seemed to stare at me for what seemed like ages before taking off as well. Eusine stumbled down the ladder and only managed to catch a blur of Suicine as it shot off. Despite this glancing look, he was stunned. He vowed to carry on looking for Suicune and left.

I returned to the upper level and battled a few Firebreathers who were there. As wel as the battles, I caught a Koffing [KOFFING | F | Lvl 16]. By now I had noticed that Morty had left, probably to his Gym. So off we went.

Ecruteak City
Before heading to Gym, I made a slight detour to the Pokemon Centre to heal my Pokemon and do something else. I found out the previous night that some Pokemon only evolved when they were traded and that Kadabra was one of those Pokemon. I explained what I wanted to do to Kadabra, and he gave me a reassuring nod. I went downstairs
and arrange a back-and-forth trade with someone. After this was done, I had myself a tough new Pokemon.

220px-065Alakazam.png

Kadabra evolved into Alakazam!

With my team significantly bolstered, I went to get my fourth Gym Badge.

Ecruteak City Gym
There was an eerie feel in the Gym. It dimly lit and underneath the walkways that led to the Leader, there was a perpetual fog that concealed what looked like a bottomless drop. How did this building get the go ahead to be built?

There were Medium's along the way to the Leader. Having to face old ladies in the dark who used Ghost-type Pokemon certainly wasn't my cup of tea. But there was good news. My Alakazam was untouchable, putting away the Medium's Pokemon with ease. Bad news was that the Medium's put out the candles they were holding after they lost so that was increasingly hard to see the walkway. After a few close calls I made it to the Leader

Morty started ranting on about some far out things, a rainbow coloured Pokemon and wanting to reach the next level. Must be the fog, I thought.

Like the battle against Daniel, Morty started with Gastly and I led with Croconaw hit with Bite and this was enough to knock out Gastly. Morty was slightly surprised at how quickly the first round ended and the look of surprise was quickly replaced with a broad grin. Something was up.

No wonder he was smiling. His next Pokemon was his stongest. A Gengar. That creepy grin always creeps me out. Croconaw used Bite but Gengar dodged the attack. I called for another Bite attack but this time Gengar was prepared with Sucker Punch, which critically damaged my Croconaw, making it unable to battle. This proved to be worrying. Sucker Punch was a Dark-type move which would prove to be super effective against my Alakazam. I would have to weaken Gengar first before sending out my new weapon.

In my head my plan had substance, but it was a downright disaster. I sent out Growlithe who was Sucker Punched right back into its Pokeball. Gengar then went on to dispatch Geodude and Flaaffy with unnerving ease.

Fearow was out next and Morty decided to toy with me. Gengar used Hypnosis, putting Fearow to sleep. I called for Fearow to wake up to no avail. Gengar used Dream Eater and sucked Gearow's health to replenish it's own. When Fearow finally woke up, Gengar finished it off with Sucker Punch.

I was now down to one Pokemon, Alakazam. I swear Gengar's grin got bigger when it saw Alakazam come out. I called for Psybeam and Morty called for Sucker Punch. However, Alakazam showed me the error of my ways. It dodged the attack and hit with it's Psybeam. Gengar was taken aback and tried another Sucker Punch. Alakazam, however, was ridiculously fast and dodged everything Gengar threw at him. Another Psybeam and Gengar was gone. It was the same with Morty's two remaining Haunters, both unable to make any impact.

I had won. Just.

Morty congratulated me on a close battle and handed me the Fog Badge as well as TM30 (Shadow Ball):

This battle showed me that I now had a real powerhouse in Alakazam. My underestimating its potential almost cost me the battle. I wouldn't be making that mistake twice.

Gengar couldn't have killed Fearow with Shadow Ball :spy

Nope it's a first gen flying type, they all had a normal subtype

Sorry I meant Sucker Punch. I forgot the TM Morty gave so I looked it up halfway through me writing it.

A Heart of Gold: A Pokemon Story – Part 11

After beating the gym leader, it was time to move on. I decided to check out the east exit to the city first. There was a cave and as I walked near it, a hiker ran straight into me, before saying sorry and gave me the HM04, Strength. He told me that if a pokemon used it, it would move boulders out of the way. He then left. I decided that with my 2 new hidden moves, I’ll go back and check out the areas I couldn’t before, but I picked up the TM65, Shadow Claw before I did so.

New Bark Town

I went back to New Bark Town, and I surfed across the water, and found out that I had stepped into Kanto, but I couldn’t go any further for now, so I figured I would head back, and managed to find a Sentret on the way to Cherrygrove City. I surfed across the water at Cherrygrove City and the guy gave me a Mystic Water, since he didn’t need it. I also caught a Tentacool.

Route 30

I surfed on the water on Route 30, and encountered a Poliwag which I caught. I then picked up a nugget which seemed to be hidden. I’d sell it once I got to Violet City. At Violet City, I healed my pokemon and surfed in the water there, and managed to find a PP Up and a Rare Candy.

Union Cave

There was a fair bit of water in the Union Cave so I decided to have a search around there again. I went to the basement again, and surfed north. There were a couple more trainers there. They were actually a good challenge so I used them to train up my pokemon a bit more. I found a revive hidden in the rocks. I followed one path and ended up outside the Ruins of Alph, where there was a grass patch, which allowed me to catch a Natu. There was also a trainer there who had a Girafarig but Quilava was up for the challenge. I then decided to follow the other path and ended up around the Ruins of Alph again and although there wasn’t really anything much here, I did notice a nugget, hidden in one of the rocks, and a Big Mushroom in another. I then went back to the entrance of the cave and went to the pokemon center to heal my pokemon. I went to the south of the cave this time and crossed the water to a little patch of land where I found a Big Pearl. I then moved to another area, another basement. There were more trainers down here so I just used the chance to level up my pokemon more. They also gave me a fair bit of money for winning. I found an elixir and a hyper potion, as well as a Calcium that was pretty hard to see and an ultra ball that was hidden in the rocks. I then surfed on the water next to another trainer and I saw a pokemon travelling around in it. It was actually a Lapras, so I decided to catch it. It took a few balls after I got its health down but I finally caught it. I then moved onto Azalea Town.

Slowpoke Well

I healed my pokemon, and decided to put Lapras in my party for the time being, switching Pidgeotto out. I sold a few of my items at the Poke Mart and bought a few great balls before heading onto Slowpoke Well. Just after walking into the well, my egg started to hatch, and it was an Eevee. I gave it a thunderstone so it evolved into a Jolteon. I moved on, trying to train it up. I found a full heal before moving to the basement. I caught myself a Slowpoke cause I didn’t manage to find one earlier on when I was there before, and I also found the TM18, Rain Dance and a guy there gave me a Kings Rock.

jolteont.png
slowpoke.png

Route 34

I left, and went through Ilex Forest, where I managed to catch a Psyduck, and get a Big Mushroom as well. I then moved onto Route 34, and surfed over to a place I couldn’t reach before. I found another rare candy hidden there, and there was a Nugget lying there as well. I continued south and found another area, where there were a few trainers. 2 of them challenged me to a double battle and sent out a Staryu and Goldeen. I decided to hope for the best with Jolteon, and sent him out with Espeon. He managed to kill one of their pokemon but he fainted afterwards, so I sent out Dratini to help finish the battle. After winning that battle, I had to face the other sister, Kate. She was still pretty easy though and after beating her, she gave me the Power Herb.

psyducku.png

Route 38

I rode back up to Ecruteak City and left to the west of the city, out onto Route 38. There was a Max Potion lying around, which I picked up. The first trainer I faced had 3 Doduo’s so I used the chance to train up my Jolteon more. The other trainers didn’t really have any water or flying pokemon though so I just trained my Quilava up a little more. I also caught myself a Magnemite, a Snubbull, a Miltank, a Tauros and a Farfetch’d. Even though I had a Rattata, I also caught a Raticate, so I wouldn’t have to worry about evolving it later. After that, I moved on.

Route 39

As I moved onto Route 39, a man came up to me and noticed my pokedex. He said he was going to open a state-of-the-art Safari Zone in Cianwood and I gave him my number so he could call me when it opened. I then had a look around, and there were a few trainers around. A couple of them had some water pokemon, which gave Jolteon some good experience. There was a farm house at the top of the route, where there were some sick Miltank’s. They needed Oran Berries, so I gave them the 4 I had and left. I found the TM60, Drain Punch as well on this route. I also found a Nugget, a PP Up and an X-Attack hidden in the ground. Quilava also leveled up to level 35, and learned the fire type move, Lava Plume, which was pretty awesome. There wasn’t really much else on this route so I moved on, into the next city.

Olivine City

I rode into Olivine City, and saw my rival walking out of the gym, and told me that the gym leader wasn’t there, and left. I then went and healed my pokemon. I had a look around the city, and one of the fisherman gave me the Good Rod, so I could fish with it. I decided to go for a fish straight away, and the first pokemon I landed was a Staryu, and I caught it, using a Lure Ball. After reeling in a few Magikarp’s, I found a Krabby and caught it. I then went back to the PC to heal my pokemon. I talked to one of the ladies who challenged me to a battle. She had a Bellossom and she sent It out in a pokeball which had a seal on it, sending out some decorations when she sent it out. Quilava was too good for it though, using Lava Plume to kill it. I then had a look around the rest of the town. In one of the houses, a guy was looking for a Krabby to trade for a Voltorb. Being the nice person I was, I withdrew my Krabby and then went and traded it, adding Voltorb to my pokedex, although I wasn’t planning on using it. There wasn’t much else in the other houses, so I decided to take a surf on Dratini and came across the TM57, Charge Beam. I decided to teach it to Jolteon, since it was a little stronger than Thunder Shock, and could improve Sp. Attack as well.

staryug.png
krabby.png

Olivine Lighthouse

The only thing in the city left to check out was the Lighthouse, so that’s where I went next. There was an elevator on the first floor but I decided to go up the stairs. Most of the trainers I faced had flying or water type pokemon, which gave me the perfect opportunity to train Jolteon up more. There was an opening on the fourth floor and after walking through it, I found out it was actually a window, and fell down. Ouch! There was a rare candy lying on the ground, before I went back inside. I defeated another trainer and picked up an Ether, before finding a Hyper Potion hidden on the ground. I finally made my way up to the top, where I found Jasmine with an Ampharos. She told me that the pokemon was sick, but there was a Pharmacy in Cianwood which would have something to help it, but she couldn’t leave Amphy unattended, and asked me to get some medicine for her. I said I would, and then she opened the door for me, and I left. So it seemed Cianwood City was my next stop.

You've seen and caught heaps of Pokemon now! :o

Darn I forgot that Lapras shows up in Union Cave on Fridays. Then again I can always change the DS' date.
