A Heart of Gold: A Pok?mon Story (Chewie v Iridium v Hedger)

A Heart of Gold - Part 9

Route 35
Buoyed from my success in the Goldenrod Gym, I headed north onto route 35. There were a whole heap of trainers up here to battle and strengthen my Pokemon on. They weren't too difficult to fight, but their sheer numbers made it quite annoying. At the end of the route was a policeman who for some reason suspected me, despite being only 10 years old, so I had to battle him as well. There was some grass along the route so I caught a number of new Pokemon here to add to my Pokedex.

Pokeathlon Dome
At the end of the route was a building that had two exits. I decided to go left and ended up at the Pokeathlon Dome. It was a huge, modern building and I was in awe of its immenseness. As I headed towards it a person came up to me and introduced himself as Magnus. I think he was the guy who created it. Inside this place you can compete in events using your Pokemon. It seemed kinda fun so I entered but everyone else was much more experienced than me so I lost unfortunately. It was rather fun though.

National Park
Next door to the Pokeathlon Dome was the National Park, where the bug catching competition is held. There were a few trainers here to battle, and some new wild Pokemon to catch as always. I went exploring in the woods around the park for a bit and found some cool items. Having done that I decided I may as well try and compete in the Bug Catching Competition. I don't really like bugs but they were Pokemon so would be good additions to my Pokedex. We were given 20 minutes and 20 Park Balls to catch the best bug Pokemon we could. I managed to grab a number of Pokemon but decided to keep a Beedrill. Unfortunately however it wasn't good enough to place and I received a Shed Shell for not placing.

Route 36
There were a couple of trainers here and some wild Pokemon, but this route was pretty short so it didn't take long to reach the end of it. Annoyingly though, there was this random tree thing blocking my way. One of the people said that it seemed to dance when water was poured on it. I remembered there was a flower shop in Goldenrod City, so I went back there, and the nice lady inside gave me a squirtbottle to pour water onto the tree thing. When I poured the water, the tree attacked me! It turned out to be the Pokemon Sudowoodo, so I caught it to add to my collection.

Route 37

On this route I came across my first double battles. This is two on two battling and introduces a few new strategies but is for the most part the same. The trainers were still pretty easy thanks to my exceptional training. There were a couple of new Pokemon here as well, and I caught a Stantler and Growlithe.

Holy farrrrk I just ran into some grass for the first time since seeing the mythical dogs and ran into Entei

I already have Entei and Raikou down to red health and paralysed :p

I spent about 20 minutes doing that. I've tried catching them but it hasn't managed to work yet.

A Heart of Gold: A Pokemon Story ? Part 13

After beating the gym leader and getting the HM, I healed my pokemon and taught Togetic the HM move, Fly. I quickly flew back to Olivine City, to get the medicine to the gym leader, Jasmine.

Olivine Lighthouse

I raced to the Lighthouse and used the elevator to get to the top. I ran to where Jasmine was still standing with her pokemon. She asked me if I got the medicine, so I pulled out the SecretPotion and gave it to her. She gave it to Amphy and it seemed to make it better. She thanked me and said that she?d return to the gym. As I walked outside the lighthouse, I got a call from Baoba. He told me that he had finally opened the Safari Zone. He told me it was at Cianwood City, after a short walk from there and I would come to the gates of the Safari Zone. I would definitely check that out before I faced the next gym leader but I decided to go back and catch all the pokemon I hadn?t already.

Goldenrod City

I flew back to Goldenrod City and entered the lottery, which I managed to win an ultra ball. I headed to the game corner next and after a while playing, I got a fair few coins and bought an Ekans for 700 coins. There wasn?t much else to do here so I left the city.

ekans.png

Sprout Tower

I went back to Sprout Tower at night, since I didn?t catch a Gastly earlier and I encountered one straight away. I threw an ultra ball at it straight away, capturing it.

gastlyh.png

Union Cave

I went back to Union Cave, and went for a fish there with my good rod. I found a Goldeen which I caught. I then headed up to the other section of the Ruins of Alph and after a while searching, I found a Smeargle. Jolteon weakened it before I threw a ball at it, and caught it.

Bug Catching Contest

It was Tuesday so I decided to have another go in the Bug Catching Contest in the national park, trying to add a few more pokemon to my pokedex, and hoping to win first prize. I caught a fair few new pokemon, a Butterfree, a Kakuna, a Weedle, a Venonat, a Paras and with barely a minute remaining, a Scyther and just as I caught it, time up was called. It only placed me in third though, behind a Beedrill and another Scyther. After that, I flew back to Cianwood City, to check out the Safari Zone.

Route 47

After going through the cave; I headed out onto Route 47. There were a few trainers around which I beat pretty easily, giving a bit of extra experience to Dratini and Togetic. I also picked up a revive while I was there. There was another cave there and I went down the ladder first. I ran into a Golbat so I caught it, to add to my pokedex. After leaving the cave, there was a huge body of water so I decided to have a look at what pokemon I could find. The second pokemon I ran into was a Seel, which well looked like a seal. A great ball did the trick after Dratini lowered its health. I also found a pearl on one of the islands. I went back into the caves afterwards and ran into a Kingler, which I caught. I moved up the other ladder this time and when I walked out of the cave, I ran into two trainers who wanted to fight. They actually proved to be pretty tough but Espeon and Dratini got us over the line. I then moved on and picked up a lagging tail before getting into another double battle. They weren?t very strong though and Dratini and Jolteon made quick work of them.

Route 48

There was only a patch of grass on this route so I just ran around in it trying to find some new pokemon. I ran into a Girafarig after encountering a few pokemon and it was pretty easy to catch. I then ran into a Fearow which was a bit tougher to catch but I managed to do so in the end. Gloom was the next pokemon I managed to catch. The last pokemon I caught was a Diglett and after that, I went to the Safari Zone.

Safari Zone

Here was the Safari Zone. There was a lady with a Butterfree selling different types of pokeballs so I bought some dusk balls and quick balls, before heading on into the building which was the Safari Zone. When I walked into the building, the man from earlier, Baoba came up to me and talked to me about the Safari Zone. He then asked me if I wanted to take the Owner Aptitude Test. I said I would and he told me that I needed to catch a Geodude from the safari zone and show it to him. Too easy! So I asked the man to enter and he was charging $500. Pretty expensive but I payed it and he gave me 30 balls. It didn?t take me long to find the Geodude and it only took 2 balls to catch. After that, I decided to have a look around and see what other pokemon were around. I also managed to catch a Graveler around the peak area, and finally found a Magmar which I managed to catch after throwing some mud at it. I then moved on to another area, the meadow and looked for some more pokemon there. I added a Skiploom and a Jigglypuff before going for a fish and catching a Poliwhirl. I then moved onto the savannah area and caught a Rhyhorn. The wetland had no pokemon I hadn?t caught yet so I finally moved onto the Mountain area, looking for new pokemon. I found a few new pokemon there, including Lickitung and Magneton but they were tough to catch. I finally managed to catch a Lickitung. I also encountered a Larvitar and threw a ball at it straight away, and managed to catch it. After that, I left the Safari Zone to go show Baoba the Geodude.

larvitarf.png

He congratulated me for catching it and told me there was another test, but he was still preparing for it. I didn?t know how long it would be so I decided to use the time to train up my Larvitar. After training for a little while, I got a call from Alan who told me he picked up an item for me. I decided to fly over there and he gave me a fire stone. What a guy! I said thanks and left again. I trained up Larvitar some more and gave my Dratini some extra training as well. My Dratini had grown to level 30 and surprisingly, it evolved into a Dragonair. I still hadn?t got a call from Baoba and it was now night time so I went back to the safari zone to see what pokemon turned up at night. I managed to catch a Marill, Magneton, Nidorina, Nidorino, Golduck, Quagsire and a Clefairy. I then had a look back in the peak area and found a Wobuffet which I caught, and I had now passed 100 pokemon in my pokedex. I still hadn?t got a call over the next 2 days so I just headed back to Olivine City so I could face the next gym leader.

dragonairx.jpg

Olivine City Gym

I walked into the gym and there were two people in there, but they didn?t fight me, allowing me to go straight on to Jasmine, the gym leader. We talked for a couple of minutes before we battled. She used steel pokemon and sent out a Magnemite to start things off. I sent out Typhlosion hoping to finish things quickly. Magnemite wasn?t fast enough for Typhlosion allowing it to use lava plume, taking out Magnemite in one shot. She then sent out her Steelix. I decided to call Typhlosion back and sent out Dragonair. Dragonair started off by using surf, doing a fair bit of damage to Steelix. Steelix replied by using Screech, which hurt my ears and Dragonair looked a bit uncomfortable as well. He came back with surf again though, leaving it on low health but the sitrus berry restored some of its health. Steelix then hit Dragonair hard with Iron Tail, knocking it senseless. I then sent out Espeon to finish things off. Confusion wasn?t very effective though, and then Steelix whipped up a sandstorm. Jasmine then used a hyper potion and now I was back where I begun so I just tried to finish things quickly by sending Typhlosion out again. Lava Plume did the trick as it took Steelix out straight away. Jasmine finally sent out another Magnemite, which Typhlosion disposed of pretty quickly, using Flame Wheel and the 6th badge was now mine. She also gave me the TM23 which was Iron Tail, also seemed a bit shy when giving it to me. She then wished me luck on my journey and I left. As soon as I left the gym, Baoba gave me a call, telling me the next test was ready. I wasn?t in any rush so that?s where I was heading next.

A Heart of Gold: A Pokmon Story
Iridium - Part 13

I had got the medicine for Amphy and along the way had managed to grab the Storm Badge from Chuck, the Cianwood City Gym Leader. I now needed to head back to Olivine and give Jasmine the medication.

Olivine Lighthouse
What a time saver the Fly HM was. Instead of having to cross the sea, I just hopped onto Fearow and off we flew. I ran into the lighthouse and used the elevator. I got to the top and gave the medicine to Jasmine, as Amphy wouldn't take anything unless it was given by Jasmine. The medication must have been pretty potent because almost immediately, Amphy looked much better and confirmed this when it's tail lit up the entire room.

Jasmine was very pleased to see Amphy back to full health and reported that she would be heading back to the Gym. Great news indeed! As I left the lighthouse, I received a call from Baoba, the Safari Zone Warden. He said that the Safari Zone was now open and that I could go and check it out any time I wanted. Since there were no sick Pokemon to save, I decided to take up Baoba's offer.

Route 47
To get to the Safari Zone, one had to pass through a cave near Cianwood City and traverse along some cliffs. Despite the precarious drops, there were a few trainers here. I battled past a Hiker and his team of Dunsparce and arrived at a cave which had a ladder heading down and one heading up. I thought I see what was down below.

The ladder leading down led to a cave exit which led you to the sea. I surfed around for a bit to see what I could find and caught a Staryu (L21) and a Seel (L11). After that I headed back, and took the ladder leading up.

As I popped my head out of the opening, out jumped a Kingler (L22). It put up quite the fight but in the end, it was added to my collection. Here on the upper level, I fought two double battles, with the two Ace Trainers proving to be quite the opponents. After beating a Couple's Onix and Cloyster, I reached route 48

Route 48
There were no trainers on this route but instead, there were a lot of Pokemon. There was a large patch of grass and in there I grabbed a Gloom (L24), Diglett (L20), Tauros (L20) and a Girafarig (L20). I had managed to catch 7 more Pokemon and I hadn't even arrived at the Safari Zone yet! Past the grass patch was a massive arch which told me I had arrived at the Safari Zone.

Safari Zone
I healed my Pokemon at the Pokemon Centre and entered the Safari Zone's main building. There Baoba was waiting for me and asked if I wanted to take part in a little challenge he had on. I was up for anything so I readily agreed. My challenge was to catch a Geodude in the Safari Zone. I thought it would have been something much tougher. Catching a Geodude would be easy. I talked to attendant, paid my entrance fee and was handed 30 Safari Balls to be used for catching Pokemon.

The Safari Park was divided into 6 areas, each with different environments to attract different kinds of Pokemon. There were mountains, peaks, swamps plains and many others. I set about looking for Pokemon and first Pokemon to appear was a Geodude, which I promptly caught. With the challenge completed, I set about catching what I could. I spent hours looking around the different areas and managed to grab:

Magmar (L17) | Mr. Mime (L17) | Misdreavus (L17) | Jigglypuff (L15) | Skiploom (L17) | Magikarp (L24) | Paras (L17) | Murkrow (L17) | Goldeen (L23)

It was now starting to get late and I wanted to head back to Olivine to battle Jasmine, I called it quits with my small haul. Baobo congratulated me on catching a Geodude and said that there were still a few more challenges to come and that he would contact me when they were ready. I left the Safari Zone, swapped Fearow for Murkrow, and flew back to Olivine.

Olivine City Gym
When I entered the Gym, I saw two trainers. I was expecting to have to battle them to get to Jasmine but instead, all they did was thank me on helping Amphy. This meant that I was able to head straight to the Leader with no pesky distractions.

Jasmine thanked me for the help I had given to Amphy but said that this was a different situation and that she would not go easy. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Jasmine started off with a Magnemite, and I sent out Growlithe. I called for Growlithe to use Flame Wheel and it struck Magnemite. It's high defence meant it hung on and used Thunder Wave, paralysing Growlithe. Magnemite used Thunderbolt and with Growlithe unable to move, took the full brunt of the attack knocking it out. I sent out Graveler and a Magnitude attack was enough to knock out the weakened Magnemite.

Jasmine then responded with her strongest Pokemon, a huge Steelix. It immediately showed how strong it was by using Iron Tail, instantly knocking out Graveler. I turned to my trusted companion Feraligatr to get this battle back on track. Feraligatr, despiute being pretty large himself, was a speedy Spearow compared to the lumbering Steelix. It was able to dodge many of the attacks Steelix threw at him. Feraligatr used Surf which dealt critical damage to Steelix, taking Jasmine's best Pokemon out of the battle.

200px-208Steelix.png

Jasmine's Steelix | Lvl 35

Her last Pokemon was another Magnemite and despite the type disadvantage, I left Feraligatr out. However, Magnemite used to same Thunder Wave and Thunderbolt combo and it worked. Almost. Feraligatr was much tougher than that and used all its strength to launch a massive Surf attack on the little Magnet Pokemon, sending it flying out of the battle. Feraligatr had come through and won us the battle.

Iridium defeated Leader Jasmine
Feraligatr - 2041 exp
Graveler - 571 exp
$4200

Jasmine was gracious in her admitting my superiority and conferred upon me the Mineral Badge.

Mineral_Badge.png

As with all the other Gym Leaders, Jasmine also gave me a TM as a gift. This time it was TM23 (Iron Tail), the move which took out Graveler.

After the battle, it was time to head back in-land, away from the coast to continue my journey.
