Playing XI’s for the First Sheffield Shield Match of the Season Announced

Sheffield%20Shield_logo_web.jpg

13 October, 2010

On a pitch that was expected to have more pace than turn, Tasmania went with a 4-man fast bowling attack for the first match of the Sheffield Shield against South
Australia. This match between the two lowest place teams is the first for Tasmania’s new coach Jono Choie, and will be an acid-test for his abilities. Tasmania will be
wanting to improve on their 5th placing last year and will be hoping that Jono brings the spark to the time that it needs. They are boosted by the news that
Ricky Ponting will be able to turn out for them due to having no international commitments at this time.

South Australia also went for a 4-man pace attack spearheaded by Peter George and Ben Edmondson. While the South Australian bowlers do not have the
experience of the likes of Hilfenhaus and Geeves, they will be determined to cause an upset over the much more fancied Tasmanian team. Led by Michael Klinger,
two of the team, fast bowler Tim Lang and opening batsman Andy Leith, are making their first class debuts in this game and will be wanting to impress the selectors.

The bookmakers have Tasmania on short odds to win this match between arguably the two worst teams in the competition. The undoubted talent of players such as
Ponting and Paine were expected to shine through against a bowling attack that is comparatively weak and inexperienced. Tasmania was paying $2 to win, a
draw was $3 and a South Australian victory was paying $3.50. Meanwhile, in betting for who would score the most runs in the match, Ponting was paying $1.50;
Ferguson and Paine $2.50; Bailey and Birt $3.50; Cowan, Cosgrove, Birt, Klinger and Blizzard were paying $5; Harris, Doolan, Smith, Leigh, Ludeman, Butterworth
and Christian $6.50; and any other bowler $10.

You have a few days to get bets in for who wins, and who scores the most runs because I'm going away. This figure is the combined total from both innings. As before, only one bet on each option, and a maximum bet of 10k. This will be my last betting round, it gets a bit boring doing it everytime. This one is just so that people can get a quick payout because the other two (The MVP and competition winners) won't be paying out for a while.

Also, you still have a few days to post MVP picks and bet on the competition winners. All these will close when I get back from my holiday :)

Bets:
Result:
riz7khan12: South Australia 10k
CG123: Tasmania 10k

Most Runs:
CG123: George Bailey 10k
