A Leftie's draft

Oh thought it meant something else.
But Im with you about Anwar. If this was a ODI draft he would have gone much earlier but people don't realize that he was a great test opener also.

Dare added 0 Minutes and 51 Seconds later...

BTW how long has it been since Iridum made his pick?

Matt's got about 7 hrs left until I jump in.

Nighty night :D - Don't worry too much about it. I've gotta head out this arvo for a fair while so it'll be a few hours until I'll be picking anyway.

Marcus Trescothick

Trescothick played Test Matches for England between 2000 and 2006. He scored 5825 runs and knocked up 14 tons. A very solid opener who's scored over 17,000 first class runs including 40 hundreds.

Excellent you didn't take the opener I wanted :)

Gautam Gambhir

Current players can often get undervalued in exercises like these, but I don't think Gambhir should be underrated. For starters he averages 55 and in the last 2 years he's been in great form averaging around 70. Some say he hasn't been tested in all conditions yet, but you can only play well in what you've been exposed to, especially when you consider some of crickets great names eg. Bradman, Grace, Hobbs etc. only played in 2 countries. Anyway from what I saw first hand of him in the ODIs on the last India tour of Aus, he's a fantastic player and I'm glad he's still available. It's especially relieving since he's not Aussies or English - I'm running out of space for them.

He considered Gambhir. Nice picks both of you :) Now just fingers crossed Dare doesn't take my pick.

Good pick with Trescothick and Gambhir. I had Trescothick down but not Gambhir. He didn't even cross my mind. I might have even picked him over Strauss. But damn have I got a long wait til my next pick...

Yeah Gambhir tempted me, but went for a bit more of the experience pick. Could of gone either way, so good pick with Gambhir.

there is a batsman I literally cannot believe no one has picked yet.

but it might because he's right handed, and I got him mixed up with someone else.

Bah, Gambhir was my reserve in case my other guy got picked. I am keen to get my pick in, hope my guys stay!

Hah - I pick Gambhir and he responds by lasting 2 balls v Sri Lanka :p

Oh exactly mate. I've got maybe 4-5 guys that I'd settle for with my last 3 spots, but I'm very afraid I won't get them. I'll have to do some contingency research...

Pedro Collins

I needed another pace bowler so I decided to go with Pedro Collins. He is the most successful left arm pace bowler to come out of the Caribbean with 106 wickets in 32 tests at an average of 34.63. He could have had a much longer career but he chose county cricket over country and ended his international career even tho he was called up for the home series against Sri Lanka.
For a long time after that, he was best remembered for an injury of the cruellest kind, when a Jason Gillespie delivery trapped a testicle outside his box.

1. Saeed Anwar
2. Gary Kirsten

6. Clive Lloyd*
7. Ridley Jacobs
8. Bobby Peel
9. Derek Underwood
10. Richard Collinge
11. Pedro Collins

He was pretty quick too wasn't he old Pedro? There's not really a lot of QUICK left armers that have stood out through history.

And...OUCH on that Gillespie delivery

@ Dare you have really picked some very good picks. Your opening pair is just perfect for all format and so is your bowling.
I am not too keen of Pedro probably I didn't saw him much playing.

I honestly had no other pace options on my list. Collins was the last option and I had to take him just to complete the pace bowling attack.
He was a solid bowler, had some ability to bring the ball into the right handed batsman and mid way in his career he changed his action and had a more high arm action which gave him a bit more pace.

From the clips that I have seen he was around the 135-140 mark. Nothing like the WI bowlers before him.
