A Leftie's draft

Alvin Kallicharan

One of my mum and dad's favourite players, and they've said that for a player of his height he was fantastic to watch. A pure playing style with a wide range of shots on both feet he scored 12 test hundreds in just 66 games and played 505 first class games for 36,650 runs! Only played 9 years of test cricket, captaining his country briefly before retiring when he was 32.

There are still much more internationally established players left to pick before Alvin.

Forget the keeper, that Alvin guy has killer hair. Should do commercials for shampoo companies

Nice pick. He was a backup pick for me if my preferred next choice was taken. And yes the hair is rather nice as well. :laugh

Stephen Fleming

Fleming is New Zealands most successful batsman of all time and one of their best. In 111 test matches he made only 9 centuries but thats due to his poor conversion rate which was the problem in ODIs too. He was a much more successful batsman away from home which doesn't surprise me because many do struggle batting in New Zealand. Fleming averaged 47 coming in at #3 scoring 6 centuries and 12 fifties at that position and thats where he slots in for me.

Dare thats another good pick better then mine one;)

When I picked Ganguly, Fleming was the other choice I had. It was just his poor conversion rate that turned me towards Ganguly but other than that he was a class batsmen.

You can also consider the peripheral skills too. Fleming was excellent at slip while Ganguly gives you an extra bowling option. And both were renowned captains - in particular Fleming. In fact those extras probably put them both in front of Kallicharran for me.

And cmon Matt make a pick!

I was at school!

Shakib Al Hasan

Al Hasan is a talented young all rounder. He's a consistent and solid performer, averaging 30 with both the bat and the ball. He took 7/36 in NZ back in 2008, one of just 7 5fers. 75 test wickets and 1179 test runs in just 21 games shows he's no hack.
