Yorkshire vs Nottinghamshire
Headingly

The battle for top sport in the North Zone group is up for grabs today as Yorkshire welcome Nottinghamshire to Headingly. With both teams occupying the top two positions in the group and on equal points, this game could decide who finishes top in the group and gets the bragging rights going in to the final stages of the competition. The earlier game between these two at Trent Bridge finished with a high scoring 30 run win for Yorkshire which saw two blistering knocks, one from Ian Harvey, the other from Darren Bicknell. Both teams will be relying on these two today to give them a boost and take them to victory so were in for a cracker. Craig White and Stephen Fleming met down at the middle to check out the conditions.

A green pitch with overcast conditions looks like it should be a good pitch to bowl on, but with humid conditions, that cloud cover may not last long so there are several things the winner of the toss needs to think about before making a decision. The match referee made his way down to the middle to conduct the coin toss.

So, Stephen Fleming has won the toss and has elected to bat first. Time will tell if that turns out to be a good decision or not, but judging from the earlier matches here in this competition, the side batting first has mainly won the game so Yorkshire are going to have to give it their all to beat this strengthened batting line up of Nottinghamshire. The teams were announced and the players made their way out to begin proceedings.

Notts On Top Despite Briggs Fightback
At Headingly

Stephen Fleming's decision to bat first has seemingly paid off as Notts posted 172 for 7 from their 20 overs. After a blistering start which saw Hoggard and Kruis take some punishment, the introduction of Shaun Briggs seemed to change the course of the game as his tight bowling forced mistakes and saw him pick up 3 wickets. Yorkshire were also helped by the fine spin bowling from Mark Lawson who seems to be getting better and better as he gains more experience. Stephen Fleming was the top scorer for Notts at the top of the innings with a blistering 38 at the top of the order and Chris Read also boosted the score at the end of the innings with his quickfire 31. Yorkshire will now have to bet as well as they did at Trent Bridge to surpass this score as they havent scored a bigger total since then.

From Briggs View
Briggs was yet again in the wickets as he finished with figures of 3 for 25 from his 4 overs. After putting early pressure on Stephen Fleming, bowling a maiden at him, he then came back next over and cleaned up the New Zealand captain with a great piece of bowling. Hussey and Ealham fell in the preceeding overs but unfortunately for Yorkshire that was the end of his 4 over spell. Despite taking some punishment at times, especially from Mark Ealham who hit him for a 6 and 4 in consecutive deliveries, Briggs was not put down by this and really put in the effort which will now be needed when he goes out to bat.

Shaun Briggs 4-1-25-3

1st Over: Briggs starts perfectly bowling a maiden in his first over
2nd Over: WICKET! Briggs starts the over badly, bowling a no ball and then being hit away by two boundaries by Stephen Fleming, but he replies brilliantly, clean bowling the captain. 10 from the over
3rd Over: WICKET! Briggs does it again as Hussey clips one off his pads straight into the hands of Wood who takes a comfortable catch. Ealham then comes in and hits Briggs away for first a huge 6 and then a 4. 11 from the over
4th Over: WICKET! Briggs does it again, this time his 3rd and final victim is Ealham who goes for a biggie straight down the ground but only finds the hands of Wood who takes another comfortable catch. 4 from the over.

Okay, slight problem! I quit the game without saving it so im going to just do an exhibition match between the two and see what score I get in 20 overs and the match result will be based on that!

White And Harvey Guide Yorkshire To Victory
At Headingly

Two superb knocks at different stages in the Yorkshire innings guided them to a fine 4 wicket victory over Nottinghamshire at Headingly. The first, from Ian Harvey at the top of the innings who hammered a half century from only 26 deliveries to get Yorkshire off to the perfect start. The middle stages of the innings were then solidified by his opening partner Briggs who played some nice shots on his way to 38, but it was the quickfire innings of White which would get Yorkshire home, his 44 came from only 24 deliveries and only came to an end when the scores were tied, but by that time Yorkshire had 10 deliveries to score a single so the winners were never in doubt. Nottinghamshire will be dissapointed with their bowling effort, and it seems Fleming's decision to go in with only 4 front line bowlers has cost him the game in the end which will be dissapointing, especially having posted such a good score in their opening innings.

From Briggs View
It was Briggs turn to play spectator again as he stood back and watched Harvey take the Notts bowlers to pieces. Once he did get a chance though, he did not let his side down, playing some aggressive shots to begin with and then steadying down and only playing shots at the right time. Briggs no doubt played the shot of the innings when he hit spinner Graeme Swann over the covers for 4 and found the gap perfectly for 4 runs. In the end it was the big innings of Harvey and White which won this game, but Briggs contribution can not be disgarded either as he also played an important part in this Yorkshire victory.

Man Of The Match

Another fine performance from Briggs has all but sealed Yorkshire's progression to the next round which will see them there for the first time since it began. Briggs will now look towards the next game and getting some revenge against Durham.

Durham vs Yorkshire
Chester-le-Street

Yorkshire travel to the North East to take on the only team that has beaten them so far in this years Twenty20 in Durham. That game will be remembered for Steve Harmison and Neil Killeen's heroics with the bat rather than ball as they took Durham to an amazing 1 wicket victory at Headingly, and today Yorkshire go to Durham looking for revenge, while Durham need the win to further boost their hopes of progression. Both captains made their way down to the middle to check out the conditions before play.

The pitch looked at first sight to have a bit in it for both batsmen and bowlers, but the overcast conditions could mean the bowlers have a slight advantage. The match referee made his way down to the middle to see over the coin toss.

So, Durham have won the toss and elect to bat first, a brave decision by Hussey but Durham will feel they hold the advantage coming in to this one with their previous victory over Yorkshire. The teams were announced and the players made their way out to the middle to begin the game.

Durham Capitulate As Yorkshire Gain Control
At Chester-le-Street

Yorkshire moved into control at Chester-le-Street as Mike Hussey's decision to bat first proved to be a bad one as his side were bowled out for only 89. Ian Harvey proved to be the thorn once again as he picked up his second Twenty20 hat-trick of the season while there were also 3 wickets for Shaun Briggs who once again put in a fine bowling effort. Durham never really got going, and as soon as captain Hussey was run out early on, you knew it was not going to be Durham's day. Durham did show some resistance with a quick fire 32 from Mustard who finished not out, but with Yorkshire only needing 90 to win, it seems as if victory will not be long in coming for them.

From Briggs View
Once again Briggs showed his worth with the ball finishing with figures of 3 for 22 from his 4 overs. He got the perfect start from his very first delivery when Collingwood hooked a loosener straight into the hands of Craig White and from then on you knew it was going to be Briggs day. Mustard and Benkenstein hit him around early on, but Briggs as he always does bounced back and first got Benksenstein plum LBW, and then produced a peach to send Noffke's off stump flying out of the ground. Now Briggs will look to go out and knock off the 90 runs needed to win with Harvey to give Yorkshire fitting revenge.

Shaun Briggs 4-0-22-3

1st Over: WICKET! What a start for Briggs! A loosener is sent down first ball which Collingwood looks to get after but only succeeds in finding the hands of White. New batsman Benkenstein later hits Briggs for successive boundaries to ruin a good over. 8 runs from the over
2nd Over: Mustard hits a huge 6 straight down the ground, a good ball but an even better shot. 7 runs from the over
3rd Over: WICKET! Benkenstein hits Briggs for another boundary but Briggs replies brilliantly by trapping him infront to give him his second wicket. 4 from the over
4th Over: WICKET! Briggs produces a fine delivery to send Noffke's off stump flying back towards the wicket keeper. 3 runs from the over.
