Yorkshire vs Durham
Headingly

Its the battle of the northern teams as Yorkshire welcome Durham to Headingly with a place at finals day up for grabs. With the earlier games in the group stages finishing with a win for each team, its hard to seperate them, but Yorkshire may feel they hold the advantage having humbled Durham last time out by 7 wickets. Durham did win here in the earlier stages of the competition, so they will also be feeling confident about the game. The captains made their way to the middle to check out the conditions before the toss was due.

A hard pitch with no grass cover on it at all, should be perfect for batting, but the bowlers may get some extra bounce early on if they hit the deck hard. The match referee soon made his way out to join White and Hussey to see over the coin toss.

So, Durham have won the toss and elected to bat first. Probably a wise decision made by Mike Hussey and Durham will now look to post a commanding total on the board to try and see Yorkshire out of the game. The fans looked on in anticipation and excitement as both sets of players made their way out to the middle to begin what should be a cracker.

Durham Move Into Pole Position After Mustard Heroics
At Headingly

Durham moved into a solid position after their batting innings, posting a very respectable 172 for 5 from their 20 overs. Philip Mustard was the main stay of the innings, hitting a fantastic 50 from only 29 deliveries to give Durham a big boost at the end of the innings. A dismal start by Yorkshire's bowlers saw Hoggard and Kruis hit all over the park, but as seems to be the case in the Twenty20 this year for Yorkshire, Shaun Briggs came to have a ball and he made his impact felt immediately, getting rid of captain Mike Hussey who was looking dangerous, and then in his final over collecting the wickets of Lewis and Muchall in consecutive deliveries. Mark Lawson also proved how good a player he could become for Yorkshire in the future finishing with the respectable figures of 1 for 28. Ian Harvey will have to make up for his dismal bowling efforts and put in a good show with the bat, especially if Yorkshire want to win this one.

From Briggs View
Another bowling display from Briggs to be proud of as he saved Yorkshire from having to chase well over 200 with a defensive bowling effort. Briggs looked up for it right from the off, bowling aggressively, but his team mates did not show the same encouragement especially late on when the bowlers took a hammering. The wicket of Hussey could prove to be vital for Yorkshire if they go on to win, he was starting to look dangerous and when Briggs clean bowled him, the game may have shifted, but still, Durham are on top in this one and its going to take a mammoth effort from Yorkshire to win this one.

Shaun Briggs 4-0-24-3

1st Over: A very tight over from Briggs not giving anything away after the expensive start from Hoggard and Kruis. 1 from the over.
2nd Over: WICKET! Tragedy turns into triumph in the space of two balls for Briggs, first Hussey is clean bowled from a no ball much to Briggs despair, but next ball Briggs responds brilliantly deceiving Hussey again and bowling him yet again. 7 runs from the over.
3rd Over: Lewis edges over slip for a lucky 4 and then hammers one through covers for another fine 4. Benkenstein then later hits a huge 6 from an attempted bouncer. 15 runs from the over.
4th Over: WICKETS! Consecutive strikes for Briggs as first Lewis pulls straight into the hands of Lawson, then next ball Muchall goes for a pull but only succeeds in hitting it straight in the air where Lawson takes yet another fine catch. 1 from the over.

Yorkshire Sneak Home For Thrilling Victory
At Headingly

Yorkshire produced a fantastic batting performance to get home by 3 wickets at Headingly. Ian Harvey's fantastic 62 set Yorkshire on their way before Craig White all but sealed the win for Yorkshire with his 36. Durham never looked like getting anything from the game right until the end when 3 wickets fell for 9 runs, but it was too little too late as Yorkshire by then had won the game. An opening stand of 46 set Yorkshire on their way and even when Briggs got out, Harvey continued on his hard hitting ways and brought up his 50 in quick time. Durham's bowlers failed to produce, despite the bounce Harmison was getting the ball consistently flew over the boundary rope and with 10 balls to spare, Yorkshire were home and progress to finals day at The Oval. Gareth Breese was the pick of the bowlers finishing with figures of 2 for 17 from his 4 overs, but was let down by the rest of the bowlers who were all expsensive, and in the end cost Durham the game.

From Briggs View
Briggs produced another quick fire innings at the top as he hit 26 from only 14 deliveries. Instead of sitting back and watch Harvey let loose, Briggs this time decided it was his turn to have some fun on a good batting track, taking advantage of some poor bowling by Killeen who consistently got hit to the rope by Briggs. However, Killeen would have his revenge getting Briggs with a slower one which he failed to pick up and hit the ball straight to Benkenstein who took a comfortable catch, but Briggs will rest easy in the knowledge that he will walk out at The Oval for finals day.

Warwickshire vs Yorkshire
The Oval

Finals day has arrived and what a day its going to be! Three games all packed into one action packed day which is bound to be full of fun. Squeezed inbetween the games will be the annual Twenty20 Mascot Derby which see's the mascots from all counties race around an obstacle course. Then, before the final the musical entertainment will surely delight us all before the final itself. But before that happens, their's the small business of the semi finals and it starts here as Yorkshire take on Warwickshire in the opening game of the day. Both teams will be looking for a positive performance to get them through to the final, and with a long rest awaiting them after this game, they may hold the advantage in the final, so a win here would definately boost hopes. Craig White met his counterpart Nick Knight down in the middle to check out conditions before the coin toss.

conditions8lb.jpg

A perfect day for cricket, the sun is out, the pitch is in superb conditions, and with this Oval pitch renound for its big totals, boundaries should be plenty today. The match referee made his way down to the middle to see over the coin toss.

toss6wb.jpg

So, Craig White has won the toss and has decided to bat first on this good pitch. Yorkshire will look to post a huge total now on this pitch, and if they bat as well as they did against Durham in the quater finals, they should have no problems. Nick Knight did not look too dissapointed with the toss but one thing is for sure, its going to be a great game. The teams were announced and out they came to a huge roar from the crowd who awaited the first ball of the day.
