Yorkshire vs Durham
Headingly

Off the back of 3 straight victories in this years tournament, Yorkshire welcome Durham for game 4 in the North Zone group. With Yorkshire riding high at the top of the table, Durham come looking to bring their winning ways to an end and with some quality players in both teams, its going to hopefully be another belter at Headingly. The captains met down at the pitch to look over the conditions.

Conditions look to be favouring the bowlers here, but as we saw with the last game at Headingly, nothing is certain and Derbyshire learnt that the hard way. The toss would be interesting as the match referee made his way down to the middle to take charge of proceedings.

So, Craig White has won the toss and has decided to bat first in what looks like a good pitch and conditions for bowlers. With Harmison and company to come, it wont be easy getting runs early on, but with Harvey and Briggs at the crease, anything is possible. The teams were announced and the players made their way out to the middle to start the game.

Vaughan Guides Yorkshire To Safety
At Headingly

A half century from England captain Michael Vaughan guided Yorkshire to a respectable score of 158, despite at one stage being on stage for 190+. The early loss of Ian Harvey dented the Yorkshire challenge somewhat, but that did not stop Briggs and Jaques hitting away as Harmison and Killeen came in for some stick early on. Vaughan came in with Yorkshire 41 for 2 and played a smashing innings, which only included 5 boundaries showing his skills of picking up the singles and finding the gaps in the field. He received very little support though as Gareth Breese bowled a blinding spell picking up 4 for 19 from his 4 overs. There were some late fireworks from Dawson, but Yorkshire were bowled out on the final ball as Kruis missed a straight one going for a huge slog and Durham will now feel they have a great chance of winning this game.

From Briggs View
Despite the early loss of Harvey, Briggs was not scared to still play shots and hammered away, especially when facing England quickie Harmison who received some stick from Briggs as he hammered him for consecutive boundaries. A patient approach came about when Jaques was dismissed but eventually the resistance was too much as he hit Breese straight into the hands of Hussey who took a comfortable catch to bring an end to an exciting innings from Briggs.

Durham Take Thriller As Yorkshire Bottle It
At Headingly

A 10th wicket stand between Steve Harmison and Neil Killeen took Durham to an unlikely victory at Headingly as Yorkshire failed to capitalise on a position which should have seen them gone on to win. At 122 for 9, Durham looked out of the game, but an amazing partnership which lasted just 10 balls and gave 37 runs proved to be the difference between the teams as Yorkshire's bowlers failed to finish the job. There were wickets earlier in the innings for Briggs and Harvey who both picked up 3 while Mike Hussey scored a fantastic 73 which turned out in the end to be the match winner, despite the last wicket stand. There was some drama at the end though, when the scores were tied Harmison hit one straight back at Bresnan which the young quick failed to hold and next delivery he sent down a wide to gift Durham the game and bring an abrupt halt to Yorkshire's winning ways in Twenty20 this year.

From Briggs View
Perhaps a decision which could have cost Yorkshire the game was that made by Craig White who did not bowl out Briggs and instead only gave him 3 overs and saved him for the final over, which as it turned out never came as Briggs was left frustrated but still should have been personally pleased as he picked up 3 wickets and bowled well at a stage which seemed to have taken Durham out of the game. His second over proved to be the best as he bowled a double wicket maiden, picking up the wickets of Collingwood and Benkenstein for a duck, next over he then bowled Hussey clean which seemed to have won Yorkshire the game, but the final over never came as Durham won a fantastic game.

Shaun Briggs 3-1-22-3

1st Over: Hussey welcomes Briggs to the attack by hitting him for 4. 4 from the over
2nd Over: WICKETS! A great over from Briggs starts badly when Collingwood is dropped, but next ball Briggs gets his revenge when he gets his man. The final ball of the over see's Benkenstein follow him back to the pavillion going for an unecessary hit over the top but only finding Bresnan on the boundary. Maiden over
3rd Over: WICKET! Hussey is clean bowled by Briggs, but from then on the over turns out to be a disaster as Muchall and Hamilton both hit huge sixes. 17 runs in all from the over

All that seemed to change though when Briggs picked up 3 wickets in 2 overs, the first to go was Collingwood

Despite the result, a pleasing performance from Briggs who chipped in with some good runs and 3 wickets but it wasnt enough for Yorkshire to get the victory.
