Yorkshire vs Derbyshire
Headingly

Yorkshire look to keep up their 100% record in Twenty20 this season as they welcome Derbyshire to Headingly. After a cracking start to the tournament, Yorkshire will be looking to continue with their form of previous games against a struggling Derbyshire team who have not really adjusted to this format this year as of yet, but today would be a good time to start that adjustment and with a very strong top order, it could be possible. White and Sutton met down in the middle to take a look at the conditions of the pitch.

The overnight rain has left its mark on the pitch, causing it to be quite wet, which means the bounce will not be as high as expected. Most captains would bowl first on this wicket, but batting last will not be easy no matter what the total is. The match referee made his way to the middle for the coin toss.

So, Craig White has won the toss, and as most captains would do in these conditions, he has elected to put the opposition into bat first. Yorkshire will now be hoping to bowl Derbyshire out cheaply to make their run chase easier, but it wont be easy looking at the Derbyshire batting lineup after both sets of team sheets were released. The players made their way out onto the pitch to a bumper crowd at Headingly all expecting a Yorkshire victory.

A bumper crowd at Headingly for this game.

id say 20/20 matches would be very difficult with damp pitches. i for one would rather the ball coming onto the bat if you were looking to score quick runs

The lineups are quite similar as both teams bat down to number 8 so it will be tough. Ill be playing this one later today after ive got this work out of the way!

Derbyshire Hammered As Bowlers Run Riot
At Headingly

Craig White's decision to put Derbyshire in to bat first on this pitch paid off as they were bowled out for the third lowest total in Twenty20 history in England. Thirteen infront of Sussex's 67 and one infront of Australia's 79 against England a couple of weeks ago, Derbyshire posted a score of 80 on this pitch with Richard Dawson and Shaun Briggs doing the damage. Dawson ended with figures of 4 for 20 and Briggs with amazing figures of 3 for 3 as Derbyshire failed to cope with the pitch and the low bounce. Scott Stubbings top scored for the Phantoms with a quickfire 23 at the top of the innings, but after that their was very little resistance as Yorkshire went on to rip through the rest of the Derbyshire line-up and should now hope to go on and claim a comfortable victory.

From Briggs View
Shaun Briggs bounced back from his previous performances with the ball in Twenty20 as he picked up 3 for 3 from two overs in a great performance from not only himself but his team mates too. Briggs was helped by the low bounce of the pitch and used it to his advantage, continuously forcing the Derbyshire batsmen into mistiming drives and hitting balls in the air, from which two of his wickets came about, but his first wicket was vital, clean bowling Moss who looked like he was settling in to bat the whole way through but a pitched up ball and a swing and miss from Moss cleaned him up and now Briggs will hope to go on and bat Yorkshire to victory with Ian Harvey.

Shaun Briggs 2-0-3-3

1st Over: WICKETS! Stunning start from Briggs, first Moss is clean bowled going for a big heave out of the ground, then next ball Bryant hits one straight to McGrath on the boundary, facing the hat-trick ball, Bassno digs out the yorker and gets a single. 2 runs from the over
2nd Over: WICKET! Briggs does it again! Friend this time goes the same way Bryant did, hitting one straight down the ground and into the hands of McGrath. Single from the over

Harvey and Briggs Lead Yorkshire To Victory
At Headingly

An opening stand of 56 between Ian Harvey and Shaun Briggs all but guided Yorkshire to victory as they defeated Derbyshire by 7 wickets at Headingly to make it 3 wins out of 3 in this years Twenty20 competition. Yorkshire got off to a flyer when Harvey smashed 16 off the first over from Dean, and the two never looked back as they proceeded to take apart the opening bowlers for the Phantoms. It was a bizzare run out that ended the partnership though as Briggs forgot to down his bat when running back for a quick single and with his foot just short of the line, Briggs found himself making his way back to the pavillion, but the job was all but done and after Harvey and Jaques fell in the same Lungley over, McGrath smashed spinner Ant Botha for a huge 6 to seal the victory for Yorkshire.

From Briggs View
It was a smash and grab innings from Briggs as he made a quick fire 29 from 17, including three 4's and two huges 6's. Instead of watching Harvey have all the fun at the other end, Briggs decided it was his turn to have a go and boy did he as he took Lungley to pieces hitting him for consecutive boundaries in his opening over and then smashing him for 6 in his next over. The run out though to dismiss Briggs was a bizzare one as Briggs completely forgot to slide his bat, the third umpire took some time to make his decision but Briggs already knew what it was going to be before the red light came up to bring Briggs hard hitting innings to an end.

Man Of The Match

A much better all round performance from Briggs, especially in the bowling department which was lacking in the earlier games in Twenty20. If Briggs can carry this on into the next game against Durham, then it will be looking good for Yorkshire to progress to the next stage of the tournament.
