Love And Sales Guide Northants To Safety
At The Northamptonshire County Ground

A century from Australian Martin Love and a handy 89 from David Sales took Northamptonshire past Yorkshire's 409 and to safety as the game looks to be ending in a draw. Love played brilliantly for his 118 and showed that despite a dissapointing season, the class was still there within the Northants team. A victory could still be on the cards, but only if something special were to happen with only around 6 hours play left in the day, but a lead of 88 could give the bowlers some hope. Yorkshire's bowlers struggled on a pitch which was always looking like a batting pitch and has proven to be so with over 900 runs scored in two innings and it was the spin of Mark Lawson which proved to be most effective as he finished with 3 wickets from a long haul of 45 overs. There was also 2 apiece for Hoggard and McGrath but it was an innings dominated by the 169 run partnership by Love and Sales.

From Briggs View
A big work load from Briggs saw him bowl 20 overs, including 10 in one spell, but as most of the Yorkshire bowlers found out, there was little assistance from the pitch and Briggs did struggle to get the ball to move away and come back in to the batsmen. Briggs was expensive early on going for 17 from his first two overs, but it was the third over of the innings which provided Briggs with his only wicket of the innings as he clean bowled Roberts to bring an end to the 71 run opening stand. After some tight bowling in later spells, Briggs seemed to be worn out by the time his 3rd spell came and went at 6 an over from his short 3 over stint, but with the game now all but ending in a draw, Briggs should hope he wont have to bat later on.

Shaun Briggs 20-4-69-1

1st Spell
1st Over: Huggins welcomes Briggs to the attack by hitting him for two boundaries through the covers
2nd Over: Briggs continues to offer easy boundaries to Briggs, bowling two long hops which are dismissed to the boundary once again by Huggins
3rd Over: WICKET! Briggs gets some retribution as he clean bowls Roberts who seemed to be beaten for pace
4th Over: Single from the over
5th Over: Briggs bowls his first maiden of the innings
6th Over: Huggins reminds Briggs he is still there by hitting him away for another boundary
7th Over: Huggins brings up his 50 with his 6th boundary from Briggs bowling
End Of Spell 7-1-30-1
2nd Spell
8th Over: Briggs comes back into the attack with a maiden
9th Over: Another maiden for Briggs
10th Over: Sales hits Briggs away for a nice boundary
11th Over: Briggs bowls his third maiden in four overs
12th Over: Sales pulls Briggs away for a boundary
13th Over: Single from the over
14th Over: 3 runs picked up from the over
15th Over: 2 singles from the over
16th Over: Single from the over as Love and Sales begin to look at ease at the crease
17th Over: Sales hammers Briggs down the ground for a 4
End Of Spell 10-3-20-0
3rd Spell
18th Over: Shafayat helps himself to a boundary through the ocvers
19th Over: Briggs looks tired as 6 runs come from the over
20th Over: Brophy hammers Briggs away for consecutive boundaries in what would be the final over of the innings from Briggs

Briggs And White Guide Yorkshire To Draw
At The Northamptonshire County Ground

Two battling innings from Shaun Briggs and Yorkshire captain Craig White guided Yorkshire to safety after they were put under some early pressure thanks to some excellent bowling from the Northants bowlers. Briggs and White both made half centuries and put on 92 runs for the 6th wicket after the two came to the crease with Yorkshire 95 for 5 with over 20 overs left in the day. Briggs patient play was a very mature knock as his 77 came from 178 deliveries while Craig White hammered three 6's in his knock of 53. Damien Wright bowled very well for his 2 wickets as too did part time spinner Martin Love who also picked up 2 wickets and a deteriating pitch which was obviously offering a lot for both the quickies and spinners. Yorkshire managed to get home for the draw though and safely negotiated their way to division one without a loss from the final game of the season.

From Briggs View
Briggs final knock of the season proved to be his most mature and valuable as it got Yorkshire safely through for the draw. His knock of 77 included seven 4's and Briggs showed his maturity by really putting his head down and playing a solid knock, giving nothing away to the Northants bowlers and not giving them any chances during his stay at the crease. This knock will impress the England A selectors as it showed Briggs does not only play his normal agressive way but he is also capable of putting his head down and getting Yorkshire home for the draw.

Man Of The Match

A good match for Briggs to finish the season on. A fantastic season has been ended in a very good way with another 100 run match for the youngster who you would never think was in his debut season given the year he has had. Briggs now has a nice break to look forward too before flying out to the West Indies with the England A team for his first game at international level.

End Of Season Summary (Part One)

So, Yorkshire have ended the season finishing well and gaining promotion in both forms of the game. The final county championship division two table can be seen below.

Essex finished the winners of the league and along with Yorkshire and Derbyshire, they will be playing in division one next year. The stats speak for themself as to who were the dominating players in the one day and longer form of the game this year and it was nice to see some new faces up their as well as the one's who have dominated at both county and international level for many years.

Most Runs (One Day Including Twenty20)
mostrunsoneday4qh.jpg

Most Wickets (One Day Including Twenty20)
mostwicketsoneday9ck.jpg

Ian Blackwell and Marcus Trescothick dominated the one day circuit this year, with Blackwell performing very well showing he is not just a part timer spinner and giving the England selectors something to think about with the tours of the sub-continent coming up. Marcus Trescothick further cemented his place as one of England's number one, one day players and the two Somerset players will be very proud of their efforts in the shorter version of the game.

Most Runs (County Championship)

Most Wickets (County Championship)
mostwicketsfc8bf.jpg

A couple of ex-internationals made their marks in the longer form of the game this year with former Zimbabwean cricketer Andy Flower scoring over 2000 runs in the year and England fast bowler Darren Gough picking up over 80 wickets. The Essex pair have had a fantastic season and guided their team up to the first division and if they continue like that next year, their is no doubt Essex will be a formidable team to face.

End Of Season Summary Part Two

Yorkshire's Season

A fantastic year for the white rose county saw them gain promotion in both forms of the game and at the same time un-earth a couple of gems for the future. Both Shaun Briggs and Mark Lawson had fine seasons with Briggs playing more than Lawson and being one of the main reasons behind their success this year. Mark Lawson looks set to be a leggie for the future and his batting didnt look too shabby either as he hit a half century late on in the season. The end of season awards ceremony took place at Headingly last night with a few notable awards being handed out.

Player Of The Year: Matthew Hoggard
Young Player Of The Year: Shaun Briggs
Player's Player Of The Year: Phil Jaques
Most Promising Player: Mark Lawson/Shaun Briggs
Fans Player Of The Year: Shaun Briggs
Fielding Award: Matthew Wood

As far as the seasons went for the players on an individual basis, their were mixed results, but also some encouraging one's.

Briggsey, perhaps for future games, you could consider getting your real face in the game?
Thats a good idea mate, seen as your a good face maker would you be interested in helping me out on that?

If so send me a PM telling me what you need to do it.

Is that even possible? Sid, could you start a thread on that in the Cricket 2005 section? I'm sure it would be a big hit!

Briggsy: wow, this presentation has been awesome right from day one. Great presentation mate, and i hope you play for your national team soon! :p

There is already a face thread called face pics for face making,so if anyone wants to make any request they could do so in that thread or in my dloads thread.

&Briggs-Sent you a pm,but I cant guarantee how quick I can make the face as Im short of time atm.
