Moss Seals Victory Despite Blakey Heroics
At The County Ground
Part time seamer Jon Moss was the suprise match winner for Derbyshire as he bowled them to an innings victory over promoted Yorkshire at the county ground today. A fine effort from the Aussie saw him pick up 6 wickets as Derbyshire went on to win by an innings and 54 runs, but it could have been worse for Yorkshire if not for a fine innings from vetran wicketkeeper Richard Blakey who finished 63 not out and virtually helped Yorkshire get past both the 100 mark and 200 mark! The top order was yet again undone by some brilliant bowling as Derbyshire obviously exploited the pitch conditions fully being the home team, something Yorkshire failed to do during their bowling efforts, and in the end, Derbyshire ran out deserved winners as Yorkshire failed to cope.
From Briggs View
It was always going to take something special to dismiss Briggs in this innings after the youngster came out and really looked as if he was playing for a long innings, playing himself in to begin with and defending what he could. It would be Jon Moss that would produce that ball as Briggs was probably balled an almost unplayable and undefendable delivery which bounced up on him at the last minute, took the glove and was caught easily at slip by Stubbings. It took Briggs 10 balls to get off the mark as Dean really roughed him up, hitting him two times on the body as soon as he came in. That obviously left its mark as Briggs seemed clueless when Moss produced that special ball and despite some controversy as to whether the ball struck glove, replays later suggested it did.
Briggs is in as Yorkshire yet again are in trouble
The dismissal of Briggs, with replays showing the glove clearly connected with the ball
