Figures For Shaun Briggs After Game One
statsafter19mf.jpg

Briggs has shown promise in both his opening games of the season. Time is needed for him to settle down as you cannot expect him to light the world on fire immediately. We will see how he handles everything in the upcoming games.

Yorkshire vs Somerset
At Headingly

The second game of the county championship season saw Yorkshire take on a strong looking Somerset team at Headingly. Over-night rain has seen the pitch take some rain and conditions look very damp. More on the conditions below.

conditions2uw.jpg

Not the best conditions to bat in and so the captain who won the toss would more likely choose to have a ball first, Craig White and Graeme Smith met in the middle for the coin toss.

So Graeme Smith won the toss and as expected, inserted Yorkshire, the conditions are going to be very difficult to handle out there and the Yorkshire players are going to have to concentrate very hard and be very patient. The teams were soon announced after the toss.

Shaun Briggs gets his home debut then against Somerest and will be looking to impress the home crowd!

Batting is extremely difficult on a damp pitch, the bounce is so low it forces you to play and miss so many times which makes it hard to up confidence of the batters which is really anoying and has proven to be so in the first innings!!! Post the screenies later on tonight coz ive got to go to work now lol.

Yorkshire Post Decent Score In Difficult Conditions
From Headingly

Yorkshire posted 253 in there first innings today in very difficult conditions. Hardly any of the batsmen managed to get in and go on to get a big score, only an attacking innings from opening batsmen Phil Jaques who scored 52 managed to get anything like a decent score. While most of the batsmen got starts, none were able to go on and Somerset should be pleased with there bowling but also worried by conditions as batting last on this pitch is going to be no easy thing to do.

Andrew Caddick: 5 Wickets in the first innings

From Briggs View
Shaun Briggs played a very good innings considering the circumstances and conditions. The shots he played and the defense technique he showed was very impressive, and while he only scored 24, it was a very good 24 and was one of the best performances as he steadied the ship when wickets were falling around him. Briggs nurdled the ball around and picked up singles and his only boundary was a crashing cover driver from Caddick which was hammered away in style. Briggs eventually went LBW playing across the line, something he seems to be struggling with at the moment and will need to work on in future games.

Somerset First Innings From Shaun Briggs View

Yorkshire will be targeting victory after bowling Somerset out very cheaply in their first innings reply at Headingly. After rain washed out the rest of day two, on day three Somerset never got out of the blocks and were bowled out for 73 with only one person managing to get into double figures! Shaun Briggs bowled a brilliant spell of 7 overs and picked up a wicket in the process which would of pleased him a great deal.

Shaun Briggs 7-2-8-1

1st Over: Tight opening over from Briggs, only a single coming from it
2nd Over: No ball from the over, tight again
3rd Over: Single from the over, Briggs definately keeping things tight
4th Over: Maiden from Briggs, the pressure seems to be setting in on the Somerset batsmen now
5th Over: WICKET! Turner is caught out by the low bounce and is caught plum infront of the stumps to the delight of Briggs and his team mates
6th Over: Single from the over, more tight stuff from Briggs
7th Over: Two from the over as Briggs spell comes to an end, very pleasing for him

I should be an umpire

S Harmison will be hoping that you will be umpiring in the Ashes as he will get all of decisions in his favour.
