Manoj Kumar Tiwary (born November 14, 1985) is an Indian cricketer, from Howrah, West Bengal.
An aggressive right-handed batsman, Tiwary has gained attention from selectors and fans through his strokeplay and high run scoring in Indian Domestic Cricket. Because of his front foot play and ability to attack the bowler by charging down the pitch, many have compared his batting style to England's Kevin Pietersen. Tiwary was named in the ODI squad to Bangladesh, however he failed to make the playing eleven after sustaining an injury in training, the morning he was supposed to debut. He eventually made his debut against Australia in the 2008 Commonwealth Bank Tri-Series in which he scored only 2 runs in his only innings. He was later included in the India team for the West Indies tour of 2011, as a replacement for Yuvraj Singh, who opted out of the series due to a lung infection. Manoj Tiwary played the 4th and 5th ODI in the series. He later got picked for England's tour of India in October. He played in the 5th ODI and got 24 runs. He also played the only T20 and scored 15 runs. Tiwary was subsequently named in the squad for the ODI's against West Indies in November?December. He played in the 5th ODI at Chennai when India was down by 2 wickets for only 1 run in the very first over of the match. He then went on build a solid innings which got him his scoring maiden ODI century (104 not out) despite having cramps and retired soon after getting his century.[1] Eventually India won the match by 34 runs and he was awarded the Man-Of-The-Match for this match-winning knock. Even after the unbeaten century, Tiwary was made to sit in the reserves for 14 successive matches following the century. However, he made an auspicious comeback as an all-rounder replacing leg spinner Rahul Sharma against Sri Lanka at Colombo as he took 4/61 from his 10 overs with his leg-breaks to restrict the hosts to 251/8. He took the wickets of Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews, Jeevan Mendis and Thisara Perera, and followed it with a fighting 21 from 38 at a tough time coming at 60/3. India eventually won the match as Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten ton. Tiwary also was picked for the Commonwealth Bank tri-series against Australia and Sri Lanka, but he didn't play any matches. Manoj Tiwary was again selected in the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2012 where again he didn't play any matches. Tiwary was also selected for the lone T20 against South Africa which was played celebrating 150 years of settlement of Indians in South Africa.

Well, I was keeping an eye on him.

I came very nearly to picking him, but I wanted a T20 specialist.

he isn't the best indian t20 batsman because got not got any international record to speak of but over the 4 or 5 IPL seasons he's been one of the most consistent performers. oops.

I wouldn't pick Tendulkar ismply because he hasn't got the whole package. A top t20 player must also be a good fielder.

I knew Gaurav will take Ojha. Both of us rate him very highly. Was confused between RP Singh and Munaf Patel. Zaheer hasn't been that effective in T20s. Looking at the recent form, performance and variations the two of them (RP and Munaf) can produce, I'll pick Munaf Patel.

As far as my pick for an Australian is concerned, after thinking about a domestic player with great record and a couple of other players, I made up my mind to go with David Hussey.

So, here you go. My picks are Munaf Patel and David Hussey.

Interesting to see Tiwary getting picked. He's a good player, but there are a huge number of guys who're better than him. Would've liked to see a write-up, but well I have to be content with a poor copy paste thing from Wikipedia.

I will admit I've almost been completely ignoring this. It's difficult to judge really because while it's meant to be an ALL TIME T20 draft, the majority of the players are still playing and their records change every match that's played.

Anyway, the thing I note about Munaf vs RP is that RP Singh did much better in his T20I chances. Now of course he's no where near the team, but he can look back with pride that he was an awesome T20 player...once :D

A splendid pick. Was the guy who I was talking about.

Yah Ojha is good, but I found that Amit Mishra has almost EXACTLY the same T20 record. Ojha has 100 T20 wickets @ 19.60, Mishra has 112 @ 19.75, strike rate the same, Ojha has 0.04 lower economy rate to get that slightly lower average. Again, the difference is T20Is. Ojha has SEEMINGLY done well in his 6 T20Is, but 9 of his 10 wickets came against Ban, Zim, Ireland - the 2 games he's had vs SL and WI he got spanked. Mishra's only had 1 T20I (vs Zimbabwe). Interesting comparison anyway, on stats alone I might have argued Mishra, on current form I guess Ojha has to be picked - he just spun out NZ in Tests and is closer to Indian selection.

And while I'm writing about possible alternatives...in addition to RP Singh and Amit Mishra, I might as well mention a couple more:

*Robin Uthappa - a pretty explosive batsman, with the advantage of being a wicket keeper.
*Harbhajan Singh - his bowling strike rate is poor, but that's only one portion of the game. His economy has always been pretty good, and he provides some good late order hitting.
*Shikhar Dhawan - similar record to Manoj Tiwary (who Bevab was complaining about :p), averaging about 30 with a strike rate just under 120. Depends what you need for your team, a real goer or a steadier player. Yeah I'm still getting used to saying that a strike rate in the 110s is a steadying batsman in T20 speak :)

I've asked Aoun to make his Sri Lanka pick at the same time he makes an Australian one. I think we can do these 2 rounds simultaneously, they have a fairly similar order and we need to hurry up and get this draft done! I was originally hoping to have it done fairly comfortably before the T20 World Cup, and that is now only just over a week and a bit away

Adam Gilchrist please. My keeper and second opener sorted as well. Thanks. Writeup later with all the other pending ones.

I was actually pretty confused in these two. Ojha or Mishra, Ojha or Mishra is what I kept on asking myself. But, as Fenil said, I rate him pretty high so went with him.

Also, I'd add Ambati Rayudu to the list of players not picked too. Very good batsman and can keep. Better than Uthappa. I had a look at everyone remaining and knew that I can easily get Gilchrist in this round as Fenil already picked Prior as his keeper. So, went with the spin option. Otherwise I'd have definitely picked Rayudu.

Tim Southee

Mts - 75
Inns - 74
Wkts - 91 @ 23.76
Eco - 8.10
BBI - 6/16
5w - 2

Tim Southee is a talented swing bowler who made his name in the under 19 world cup and after that was picked for the NZ national side. He was praised by legends such as Lillee, Sir Richard Hadlee and Allan Donald for his swing bowling. He is also very much capable of lower order hitting as his strike rate of 140 above proves. Southee has also won ICC T20I performance of the year award for 2011 where he took a five for against Pakistan which included a hat trick (only the third T20I hat trick till then).

Pragyan Ojha

132442.jpg

Mts - 81
Inns - 80
Wkts - 100 @ 19.60
Eco - 6.89
BBI - 4/21
4w - 2

Pragyan Ojha is probably the best left arm spinner currently for India. Ojha had a successful outing with Deccan Chargers which earned him a place in Indian ODI side for the Asia cup and tri series in 2008. In IPL season 3, he was the winner of the purple cap which means he took the most wickets in the tournament. His economy rate is pretty good when we talk about T20 format and has the ability of taking wickets. Much needed for my team to lead the spin attack as of now.

Adam Gilchrist

144405.jpg

Mts - 89
Inns - 89
Runs - 2328 @ 27.38
SR - 141.95
HS - 109*
100s - 3, 50s - 12

62 cts, 22 sts

Adam Gilchrist might not have played many T20I matches but, no one can question his hard hitting and fierce batting. Man for the big games! Opening an innings he can destroy any bowling attack on his day and take the game away from the opposition in no time. He was the man of the tournament in IPL in which he led Deccan Chargers to glory. His 85 runs knock in the semi final blew away Delhi Daredevils who looked unbeatable during the league stage. A fantastic wicket keeper as well. He, along with David Warner, form one of the most scariest opening pairs in T20. Imagine both of them at their best? Massacre!!!

Team so far:

Adam Gilchrist (wk)
David Warner
Andrew Symonds
Azhar Mahmood
Andre Russell
Dimitri Mascarenhas
Tim Southee
Pragyan Ojha

Since I need a pace bowler so my pick for Australian Round is Dirk Nannes.
