A T20 draft...cricket_icon & swacker's picks

Another gun player. Would have loved to pick him. Provides a spinning option too.

One man I had an eye on if Dilly would have been picked. A good aggressive play and very good bowler as well. Good pick, buddy.

A top-class player you've got there. One of my favourites. Can really go big for the team whenever needed.

Oops, look who is dragging the chain...I'm taking Mitchell Johnson. Will write about him shortly. Meanwhile Andrin has the floor, need an Aussie and SL from him.

I'll have Mike Hussey, one of my favourite limited over players. capable of doing it all, can play steady through an innings or finish them off.

ABSOLUTE STEAL. Told ya you'd be able to get some value with everyone else looking for bowlers :yes My only regret in this draft is taking Mendis ahead of Mike Hussey in round 2. Not because Mendis is crap or anything...but I could have easily got a 2nd spinner in the SL or minnows round, while getting that quality middle order bat has been harder. To get Hussey here is a fantastic pick, best value of the draft thus far IMHO.

I was hoping that you don't pick him as he was so crucial to have for the balance of my squad. Vaas is a brilliant pick as well. Few other good players are left but I thought Dilshan was overall the best of the lot for us. Lets see who picks whom.

I would have thought David Hussey already had this role for you? Dilshan definitely good batsman (and excellent fielder) but his bowling isn't overly special in T20 and with Razzaq, Watson and Hussey I was surprised you were looking for another batter who could bowl a bit. How many bowlers do you want?? :D

Format | Matches | Wickets | Average | Economy | Strikerate | BB T20I | 28 | 36 | 20.11 | 7.14 | 16.8 | 3/15 T20 | 31 | 38 | 20.47 | 7.05 | 17.4 | 3/15

Currently sits equal 8th for most wickets in T20Is, which is the most by any Australian. Only 2 of those wickets came against the lesser nations too (1 vs Ban, 1 vs Zim), so he has performed against the best. But we already know Johnson is a proven, successful limited overs bowler - he finished in my top 100 ODI players :)

Interesting T20 guy really, because he has only played 3 T20 matches that weren't for Australia! (1 for Australia A, 2 matches for Queensland). He resisted playing in any of the extra leagues (to focus on Test cricket). This year was the first year he declared himself available for IPL, was bought by Mumbai Indians but he never played (was still injured and wasn't fit in time). He still hasn't played in the new Big Bash yet, and his plan of joining Durham for the English T20 comp fell through as well when he was selected for Australia A.

Has a reputation of being a loose bowler, but if you're going to be loose, T20 is the place for it. It's a bit of an overblown theory in any case: Johnson's T20I economy rate of 7.14 is better than the average for a fast bowler in T20Is (7.55), and better than many of his fast bowling peers. Interestingly, Johnson has a very similar record in T20I to a Mr Lasith Malinga: Malinga 40 wkts, econ: 7.27, S/R: 16.8 vs Johnson 36 wkts, econ: 7.14, S/R: 16.8. Of course Malinga has had success in IPL which Johnson hasn't had (as yet ;)).

An extra reason I've taken Mitch is because he is a handy lower order batsman and means I don't have to find another bowling all-rounder. My vision is that Mitch will be an option as a pinch-hitter for this team, with a job to come in between overs 5-10 and target the 4th and 5th bowlers. I've got him at #8 for now, but he could end up coming in at #4 or #5 on match day.

4 Rohit Sharma
5 Umar Akmal (wk)

I picked Dilshan purely on his batting. That said, I rate Dillu above Dussey as a bowler (the former has the economy rate under 7 in whatever T20s he has bowled in). As you said, I've plenty of bowlers, so there was not much point getting a specialist bowler now and fell short of batters in the next two rounds in which I lie pretty low to get one (quality batsman).

My Pick of Round 8 is Steve Smith

Interesting pick. I'd love to see your own writeup about him. Not the one copied from cricinfo, wikipedia or somewhere else. Something is wrong with you putting that stats in the second coded box. It says 972 with just 46 balls bowled by him. :lol

Round 9 Pick :- Thisara Perera

You still have got it wrong though. :p Better use a table. If you don't know how to make it, easiest way to get one is copy the table I did for Abdul Razzaq, it has both batting and bowling records' columns included which will be apt for your latest picks as both Smith and Perera can be categorized as okayish allrounders, the former in particular.

Perera is a brilliant man to have lower down the order but sadly his T20 bowling record is not that great.

Just one person before me and I have not yet decided to go for a player. Great.

Damn you all for picking the likes of Mike Hussey and Mitchell Johnson and with Hayden and Watson already taken at the beginning, it left me wondering who I could pick. A quick look through the thread I could see that the sensational Gilchrist had been taken. That left me in a bit of a dilemma, so I decided to take a punt with the best young paceman on the planet:

Pat Cummins

pat_cummins(1).jpg

Stats
T20I: Matches 5, Wickets 10, Avg 11.80, Econ 6.21, SR 11.4, BBM 3/15
T20: Matches 16, Wickets 28, Avg 14.60, Econ 6.65, SR 13.1, BBM 4/16

It was as a test bowler that Cummins first made his mark on the international stage, battering the South Africans and taking 7 wickets in his first game but injury soon derailed his stint in the test side. However, in the recent t20 series against Pakistan, Cummins once again showed why he made the world stand up and take notice in the first place.

Fast, tall, strong with a range of deliveries, there is nothing not to like about the teenager from New South Wales and he has proven himself to be as hostile in the shortest form of the game as he was on test debut, picking up 3/15 (career best figures) in the demolition job that Pakistan suffered in their third and final t20 match, before the start of the world cup.

Cummins and Gul is a dream partnership, Gul has proven time and time again that he is a destructive death bowler, especially in the 20 over format, whereas Cummins brings the extra pace and bounce. This could be a beautiful partnership, with Ajmal supplementing pace with magic.

Bevab now has an Aussie to pick and Swacker has a Sri Lankan to pick because I've made my choice of Angelo Mathews. More coming on Angelo is a little bit...

I picked Dilshan purely on his batting.

Ah I see, my mistake, I read between the lines wrong :p
