I see you have started Vaughan and Beattie for almost all of the games. It will be interesting to see how the likes of Onyewu and Frey perform in their first game for theclub. Watch out for Ormerod though, I remember him during his time at Southampton, and he can score goals.
The problem I have is that I am forced to pick Beattie and Vaughan as McFadden and Ferguson are on their way out. And this would leave just Vaughan and Anichebe as the strikers to support Beattie. Here's hoping Nilmar gets his work permit and joins us!

Another loss...

Anthony Nowland's 82nd minute freekick was the difference between the teams as we lost to an impressive Preston 1 - 0. The boys took the match easy and did not involve in strenous tackles.

Though the defeat is likely to dent a bit of confidence, I am sure we can bounce back. Beattie had yet another forgettable day. James Vaughan was unimpressive again. So I have major attacking worries before the trip to Parkhead.

Frey, Vampeta, Onyewu had a decent game around. Major factor of worry was the number of shots off target. We really need to work on it ASAP.

I have scheduled a training session day after tomorrow, where i intend to introduce few of my new ideas.

Seems like youre starting to get into a losing streak.Atleast its pre season yet and all of this isnt happening in the season(proper). You desperately need a striker and/or an attacking midfielder I reckon.Superb presentation btw.

Yeah! James Vaughan is still not Premiership class. I just hope Nilmar's work permit gets through! I might try Victor Anichebe against the Bhoys though!

Thanks for the support.

James Beattie was poor in the last game, with a rating of 5. I am not sure your striker partnership is working, so better get Nilmar or someone else in quickly so that they can pair up. Vaughan can be a good substitute striker, as he did score two for the reserves.

Also how exactly are you running your training. Maybe you should adjust your tactics as well to see what suites your players best. No offence mate, but losing to PNE isnt a good sign.

Is CM that tough? I've never played it after CM4.

CM is quite tough! You need to get the right strategy otherwise, even teams like Wigan will hand out a thrashing. And yeah, Beattie is struggling up front. One plus is Maniche and Daniel Carvalho will soon be linking up and Carvalho can be used as a support striker.

Ah, dunno much about Ricardo's name-sake, but Maniche should be able to solve your problems. He is class.

Btw, how long have you been playing the game?

Very disapointed with Beattie's pre-season form; let's just hope that this is a blip, and he will be firing from all cylinders when the new season starts.

Daniel Carvalho is the next big thing that is to happen in European football. He was the one who inspired CSKA MOscow to their UEFA cup as he set all 3 goals against sporting after Sporting led 1 - 0. He and Nilmar ripped every opposition out in the Youth world cup and while all expected him to land up in one of the bigger teams, he went for Abramovich's riches. We mightsee him soon at Chelski if he continues at this pace.

And I have been playing this game for the past two months!

Yeah, wearing the captain's armband might have had its effect on Beattie. But I expect him to show what he is made off against the Bhoys!

Yes I remember now. Well he just might end up at Chelsea someday. Good signing, nevertheless. And its always good to pick players who have played and know each other well. No wonder you came up with the Daniel Carvalho's recommendation of Nilmar story.

Another blow!

Our already stuttering quest to find a striker received another blow as our proposed signing Nilmar was refused a work permit.

We now are really desparate to get hold of a new striker as we have agreed terms to dislodge Jamies McFadden and Duncan Fergusun.

I spoke to Nilmar, where in the player shared his disappointment in not being able to join us. I have assured that we would indeed appeal for him to get his permit.

Nilmar - Wants to be a Toffee!

Though we have indeed appealed to the FA for an overruling on the work permit, things are not looking bright for us as such!

But on the flip side, Daniel Carvalho has been granted a work permit and will link up with us sooner than expected!

Well its not all bad news since you did get the green light on Carvalho. Lyon paid ?4.1 million I think for Nilmar, so you are getting him on a good deal.

Training hard for "The Battle of Britain"

trainingfx3.jpg

Training Session @ Haig Avenue

Given our current performances, we had to train and train hard. I could see most of the boys were a bit rusty. I had hired fitness specialists Barry Bowler and Gareth Hokinson along with psychologist Sandy Gordon to overview the training parameters.

The fitness specialists have designed a special training regime to monitor all the aspects of the players including the heartbeat and pulse rates during warmups and practice games.

We have modified our game strategy based on their observations and I have scheduled a session with Sandy every evening after the training.

We have observed a remarkable improvement in the player's attriubutes and attitude over the past week.

So we are ready for "The Battle of Britain" at Parkhead tomorrow.

Match Preview

CELTIC vs EVERTON
UEFA Champions League Qualifier

Parkhead, Scotland
10.08.2005

Tomorrow is the big day as I lead on Everton to my first ever official match and this is BIG. We are up against the scottish champs. The survey ratings point a wee bit towards the Bhoys, but I am quite confident that we can put them to the sword.

Dermot Desmond, the Celtic Supremo had earlier announced that his side would win us comfortably.

Desmond - Bullish on the Bhoys winning

"I think we could score 3 or 4 goals. We have an organized team and the players gel well. We also have the great advantage of the fan support. There will be atleast 50,000 passionate fans screaming CELTIC! CELTIC!. It would be difficult for Everton to win here."
Whereas, SKYSports' Andy Gray has predicted a close match up

expertgrayfq9.gif

"This should be quite the match we could expect to have for the season kick off! Two well matched teams in Everton and Celtic will battle it out at Parkhead tomorrow in the first leg of the Champions League Qualifier.

Celtic will have a huge fan support in what is termed to be the Battle of Britain. They have a well balanced team which is going in the right direction under Gordon Strachan. Roy Keane, Neil Lennon, Aidan McGeady, Bobo Balde and John Hartson have been instrumental in the Bhoys' Scottish Premiership win last season. So we would expect them to start as the favorites tomorrow.

Everton on the other hand are under a transition phase with a new and inexperienced manager at the helm. But due credit must be given to Ramesh Balaji as he has made some tactful buys so far. Where Everton might struggle is that they donot have a support striker to complement the sofar pedestrian James Beattie.

Mikel Arteta
and Tim Cahill will have to master the midfield in order to keep the match in control. New signings Vampeta, Onyewu and Sebastian Frey have shown a lot of promise in the practice matches.

I predict the Bhoys to win it 2 - 0. Due credit to the Toffees, but they still have to gel as a unit."

Bookie's Talk

Celtic have the upper edge in this match. They are the home team as well. We are placing Celtic at evens.

Everton might find it hard to even get a goal in the match. We are offering 5/3 for an Everton win.

A draw is possible and we offer 2/1 for a draw.
