Is it just me or have you made a mistake there Bala?

Chelsea never signed Maniche, Dinamo signed him from Porto and from there he went on loan to Chelsea, not the other way round!

You are correct. But in the game, it was mentioned that Dinamo had signed Maniche from Cheatski!

Cagliari vs Everton
24th July 2005
Friendly Match @ Sant' Elia

I knew we had our toughest test today as Cagliari have a few impressive players, especially the effervescent Mauro Esposito. I have been eyeing to get him to Goodison for some time now.

A 10,000 strong crowd had turned in to see this match. I had revamped my defense, now with Weir gone, I opted to leave the impressive Yobo on the bench and had Tony Hibbert, Matteo Ferrari, Alan Stubbs and Gary Naysmith starting.

Cagliari had gone for a 4 - 4 - 1 -1 formation. I had instructed the players to use the long ball game whenever possible. I just wanted to try that strategy out. I have tasted success for the first time and I am keen on sustaining that.

Cagliari is the only other Italian side that I like. I think Esposito is good, so watch out for him. I hope none of your players have been misbehaving with the Italian ladies.

The better team lost....

Cagliari were better than us, I have to admit. Though we did have more shots (10 against 7), we had just 3 on target. We were patchy with 5 yellow cards.

But the fate of the match was sealed when Beattie was tripped by Conticchio inside the box. Mikel Arteta converted the penalty with utmost confidence. I gave a run in for Duncan Ferguson and Li Tie who still have not impressed me.

Well thats win number 2 for the boys and I feel a bit better now. The mood in the team is looking up and the boys have started to move well with me Alan and I have struck a good partnership and finally I can retire today in peace.

Our next match is the last of our Italian tour against Lecce.

New men in...

25th July, 2005

The first of my signings Vampeta and Nuno Mendes were officially unveiled as Everton players today in our hotel in Turin.

On introducing the players, I addressed the media

"I am very happy to have both Vampeta and Nuno Mendes to play for Everton. They have immense talent which I am sure will be on display this season and for the forthcoming seasons."

Vampeta, Attacking /Right Midfielder - Everton

"I am undoubtedly happy on joining a club like Everton. I had always wanted to play in England and I do hope to do well for Everton. - Vampeta "

Nuno Mendes, Central Defender - Everton

"Its almost like a dream come true for me to play in the EPL. I did not have good season last time around. But I am absolutely thrilled to join Everton and I do hope to repay the Manager's faith on me with my performance. - Nuno Mendes"

'Striker'ing a deal..... at last.

With the transfer season in the midway, we still had not identified a striker. We had agreed a transfer fee of 4.4 Million with Ajax for James McFadden and the transfer was right on cue.

And surprizingly, I received a call from Mallorca with an enquiry to sign Duncan Ferguson. I immediately agreed on a transfer fee of 1 Million for the old war horse. It was the best deal that I have concluded, I have to say.

With the search for the strikers bearing no fruit, I called up few of the players and asked for their opinions. After lengthy discussions with Nuno Valente, Joseph Yobo, Andy van der Meyde and Kevin Kilbane, Alan and me still were not convinced.

Out of an impulse I called up the newest inclusion to thet Toffees, Daniel Carvalho and asked him his suggestions. He did suggest an excellent option - Nilmar.

Nilmar
3.9 Million - Done Deal!

Nilmar
is an exciting striker who is contracted to Lyon but has been loaned out to Corinthians. I immediately called up Lyon and after some discussion settled on a transfer fee of 3.9 Million Pounds. An excellent buy, I should say.

The only hitch is that he needs a work permit which might be a bit hard to obtain.

But as for now, we are optimistic enough.

Fixtures Released

The fixtures for the season has been released. We have an uphill task first up as we have drawn the scottish champions Celtic in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

I hope to get the boys to kick off in style with a win against the Bhoys. The Premiership kicks off with a tough travel to Ewood Park as we line up against the ever improving Blackburn Rovers.

The fixture list:

I do need to get in a couple more additions to the squad so that we kick off with confidence.
