All Time India Test XI Draft (Shravi)

srinath.jpg

India's second best fast bowler after Kapil Dev, Srinath was the India's fastest bowler ever. He could move the ball either way and was devestating given the right conditions. He ended his career with a respectable 236 wickets to his name, the second most for an Indian fast bowler.

Damn, was hoping I could sneak him in at the end.

Things are getting interesting. I think the teams are pretty much evenly spread out, when you take balance and stuff like that into consideration.

Bleh, both picks I wanted, but not the one I had lined up for my next turn...

I think i've got an idea of who you want...

Damnit! Zorax has two picks in a row! Absolutely vital at this stage. That lucky bastard.

Oh, this will be fun...

Can we keep track of the XIs so far in the first post or something?

EAS Prasanna

An offspinner with the mastery of flight and deception, EAS Prasanna was a prominent figure in the Indian spin treo of the 1970s. He had the attacking mindset of a tiger, but the patience of a monk, as he bowled over after over, luring the batsman into his trap. He had a complete control over the pace of his deliveries and length, as many-a-batsman lost their wicket to that quicker one or the one that pitched a yard too short.

Something I had planned for later on, but not an immediate pick. My two choices are still safe, but they're not what you'd expect.

What happens at the end of all this, will people be allowed to vote on who has the best team or will you play them against each other on a simulator. Or nothing of course, and it was just for fun.

Just saw this, we'll probably be having a poll.

My pick.

Zaheer Khan.

Zak has spearheaded the Indian bowling line up for quite some time now. He leads from the front and always give his best. Without Zak, our bowling would be toothless - As it is now.

Knew you would pick Zak. Come on Zorax, let's see who you have lined up then.

I knew you'd go with Zak!

Come on guys, lets make this a good day. Let's get through round 5 today.

My picks, boo yea!

My first pick is for a wicket keeper, and who better than arguably India's finest keeper-batsman? It's no secret that India has generally been lacking in this regard, but here is one of the very few Indians capable of performing both in front of and behind the wickets. He was the first choice wicket keeper for the Rest of the World XI in the 1970s, was good enough behind the stumps to keep to the famous spin-quartet, and a good enough batsman to average 31 in a tough era for batsmen. Fifth in the list of all time wicket-keeper dismissals for India, he was the fines wicket-keeper batsman we have ever had till a certain fellow from Ranji popped up. Say hello to Farokh Engineer

Now, my second pick is a little bit out of left field, but India is really short of good quick bowlers and I didn't want to risk seeing this lad go. He may have only played 7 test matches, but when Len Hutton says that there is no better bowler in the world, you know you have a serious talent. Wally Hammond described his bowling as 'he came off the pitch like the crack of doom', and he possessed all the skills required in pace, stamina, accuracy and movement off the pitch and in the air. He was also a very valuable lower order batsman, averaging in the lower 20s with 2 centuries in FC cricket, probably good enough to be considered a bowling allrounder. I'm honoured to have Amar Singh take the new ball for my side.
