All Time Subcontinent Test XI Draft - np10's pick

ODI or Test Draft?

1) We can have normal draft which has been part of this forum
2) We can have draft based on pools of player. this means we will select all batting hero's like Sachin, Anwar, Inzy, Arvind etc. in one pool so that no one misses out on great names in their side.
3) We can have bidding type draft in which we can limit the total budget for a team. The eligible players for draft will then have to be decided beforehand and this will ensure some Bangladeshi's getting representation as well.
4) We can have bouquet system draft in which one legend player and one average player are clubbed together. So a Sachin Tendulkar will be coming with in combo with Harbhajan Singh and Wasim Akram will come in combo with Aamir Sohail.

I wouldn't advocate having yet another normal draft. We already have way too many, and..well, instead of being stereotypical again and again, let's make this one unique. I don't like the idea of having an auction style draft as well. We had a similar type of a thing in bcvstheworld's "WPL", and it, in the end, turned out to be a huge mess. You can check those auction threads if you wish, you'll get my point. IMO, there's no need to make things complicated. And a bouquet system doesn't look too nice either. I think the participants should have more liberty when it comes to picking players.
I would suggest a draft based on pools of players. Not only will it make this interesting, but it will also ensure all the teams being more or less equi-balanced.

The very first IPL style draft on Planet Cricket was very entertaining indeed. I do not remember anyone else being part of it except Shrav who was bidding for Bangalore team. We used to wake up early and went to sleep in night late.

I know how other leagues or games do drafting. We won't be doing that way if we decide to go with this one.

Idea #1: Possibly the easiest and most simple but it's been done quite a few times before.
Idea #2: Good idea because all the teams will be competitive. However, I find it more fun when we let people make their own mistakes (e.g. forgetting about Wasim Akram altogether and going for Ajit Agarkar because you didn't remember).
Idea #3: The best idea but would be very time consuming and make the draft move at a very slow pace.
Idea #4: Interesting idea because of the opportunity costs involved (e.g. you get Balaji as well if you want Dravid). Makes things very interesting. However, once again, it's the same as #2 because it doesn't let people make their own mistakes or think for themselves or do the research. It could also be very time consuming before the draft actually starts to pair each player with another. Plus, if you were thinking of just having a pool of 44 players, that's very limiting as there are obviously going to be very good players that don't make the cut or that you yourself ignored.

Each idea has its opportunity cots. I know Idea #3 is the most fun, but Idea #1 is the least time consuming and easiest to conduct considering that we all live in different time zones.

I'd actually prefer the regular style draft, but that's just me. Don't like the idea of a pool AT ALL. Completely robs one of sleeper picks. The only idea I'm willing to go through with is the limit on how many Pakistanis, Indians, etc.

I Agree with NP10. I'm not a fan of the pools. I think the limit is the best idea.

The only problem with normal draft is that guys at 6,7,8 picks will be at disadvantage.

Also limiting 4 from each side has its problem. We do not have decent 24 players from SL and Bangladesh put together that can be picked.

You are obviously going to change the order in every round so that every person gets a fair chance. Aren't you?

It will be but best players will be gone in first 3 rounds only. :p

YAHOOOOOO! (Imitating from the Champions Trophy Announcement)

Yes guys. I am here if we do not have a Pakistani member :banana2

Don't you think you turned up a bit late. :doh

You can be my tag team partner. A Indo-Pak joint venture. ;)

We should start on Monday. Indian draft is over I think and CT will also be over by then.
