Yup, that's what chief was trying to say. The fixed point bowl would be called a "yorker-length bowl" or a "fuller length bowl". A yorker should be a bowl which is shot straight at the batsman's feet. Even if he comes down the wicket and the ball comes at his feet, it would be a yorker.Well after reading a lot of posts above regarding yorker and sixes, i must say Chief gave the right explanation and many havent understood it atall.
By theory, a yorker is a ball that lands right at your foot or anywhere along that length.
Now considering the power hitting and slogfests you guys have been talking about, will anyone please tell me which of those balls actually 'landed' at foot's length?
They were either low full tosses(Mcullum's scoops) as the batman moves forward or the batsman moves backward and it becomes a half volley(Helicopter shot sixes).
So im of the opinion a yorker is a yorker only with respect to the batsman's position and not a fixed point on the pitch. Hence, when a ball ends up being a yorker its impossible to loft it up into the air...it simply defies physics. I guess this was what Chief tried to say too.
Cheers.
