Ashes Cricket 2013 General Discussion

By that measurement, you could call every RPG "lazy" that's ever been made! It's a simple stylistic approach. Sometimes it takes someone else to see different ways to do things and that's the big RISK that DBC14 is taking, because there's HUGE departures from the norm for us as a playing experience. We're yet to know how they will play in-game. So by a similar measurement you could say that the Trickstar product is being cautious and researched... with small tinkering done to key play elements to make them more interesting, again, from what we know. We're yet to play either!

...but the smart money is on the product that's innovating.

I violently refute this statement.

Square perfected the battle system in FF VIII and then never make a game like it again! *shakes fist

The problem with innovation is that there'll always be a group of people who think the last version was perfection and any change to it is wrong.

There's game mechanics that history shows to be 'obvious' or 'correct' - especially with sports games.

Valid points, and also innovation can go TOO far, case in point the horrible "crafting" mini-game in ACIII which was like some boring version of SimCity where you made leather bags for money all day... Some concepts simply don't fit within the confines of certain games.

...and we are all creatures of habit when it comes to most things and a new camera angle or a new presentation concept is always going to be jarring to get used to right off the bat (pun intended) so there's certainly security in familiarity, especially in a cricket title that hasn't always been serviced particularly well in certain areas, looking at you bowling and fielding.

I don't think it should take a rival company, that has less (no) experience in cricket games and probably similar money, to remind Trickstar that cricketers are not all the same size. They could have at least looked to other sport games that hadn't had generic bodies for many years.

Having said that, I do hope Bradman 14, if good, pushes Trickstar ahead. Right now they have one trump card and that's the Ashes licence, and it's really more of a marketing one than anything because everyone hear realises that the freedom of Cricket Academy is better. It will still help sell units in this cycle but if Bradman has terrific gameplay and Ashes has licenced faces and an urn, then I think Trickstar will struggle next time around without significant improvements.

Regarding the addition of a "new team" in AC13, any chance it's an unofficial PC team? Given AC13 has been playing catch up with DBC14 and are trying to copy as many features as they can, wouldn't surprise me one bit if they tried to engage fans and generate some goodwill by getting in a team from their FB, AC13 forum or PC (maybe a combo acros these channels?) with a different kit for this team similar to what Big Ant did.

Is it possible for a percentage to be less than zero?

Well they did add DRS, didn't they? Plus Mike F's comment about having all of DBC 14's features and more does suggest the same coz most of features were not in the game before the delay but are apparently in the game now.

With the semi-fake names.

Boggs
Cricket Offline
Barmysquadron

etc.

There were a number of features confirmed a long way back on Facebook/Twitter as being planned for "future DLC", of which DRS was one. My understanding is that now the main version is coming in November (when it was hinted that the DLC would be released to tie with the Australian Ashes series), all those features that would have been in the DLC, will now be in the initial release instead.

I'm guessing those are the ones that are yet to be announced...

Yup we are waiting for the same but surely adding a team (maybe something called Ashes Cricket 2013 FB Team) with its own custom kit to appease fans isn't that hard not time consuming and gets lot of people back on board.

Obviously I am speculating but given the fact this new team was mentioned soon after Big Ant shared the PC and Big Ant Studios teams, it's not a stretch to think 505 Games thought it may not be such a bad idea to generate some goodwill amongst online community.

From what Chief has said before there are some quite tricky legal and privacy issues involved in just adding people into your game.
