Ashes Cricket General Discussion

Will there be 2 vs 2 online ?

Anybody ?

Sorry to bump an old post but I don't think this is possible. When they say 2 to 4 Network players supported in the game I think they mean 2 players playing on one PS4 and 2 on another. @MattW is this understanding correct?

They are talking way too much about AI, why because they like to bowl, people who like to bat can't play this game more than few days only to figure out batting is a sitter. It's a bigger issue then worrying about AI variety of dissmals because bowling gameplay right now is ahead of batting..Maybe just because our testers only like to bowl I guess... Let's wait for another month now to see if batting gets competitive, And would like more people to complain about that coz all the beta is doing is talking about variety of dissmals of AI and bowling.I wonder if big ant can higher better programmers etc.. Coz the same errors are found going forward to new games.I wonder if they can get testers who understands how easy six hitting can be a spoiler for the game..In general hiring people who are more interested to bat and are not avoiding slog button just for the sake of being realistic...That ways you are ignoring different elements of the game. Right now I can only wonder till next patch..
That's how discussions work people talk about things that are interesting to them or that others are talking about.

I like to bat and bowl and I've found my level where batting is enjoyable but difficult. That may be my batting style. There are still improvements.

I get a lot of edges to keeper, would be nice if some were not always caught behind instead going to a slip.
Spinners do not feel a threat in terms of the ball turning. The only time I have noticed it being the case is when I think they must bowl 'Bounce' deliveries.

I think six hitting is too easy because some of the physical skills are tuned too high. With strength of about 50-60 I hit Merv Hughes for a 100m six with Richard Illingworth who had faced about three balls. For agility and speed 55 seems to be the upper limit and for strength I've not looked as closely but I'd say 65-70 is the upper limit.

Utter gunk based on complete gunkness...

@T.J.Hooker and @grkrama bat more than they bowl.

I really enjoy when I bowl a good delivery, get an edge to slip who catches it and then it skips to the next ball. Really tweaking awesome stuff guys.

The arrogance with which they went about castigating the competition (however appalling the competition was) back when DBC14 came out, and three iterations in we have bugs like these that have been introduced?

Pardon my ignorance. Just got the game on the pc recently. One thing I noticed is that some shot animations are weird. Animation and shot does not match with each other on some shots. Was this not picked up during the build or testing?
Yeah right i am also facing the same issues repeatedly. Its impossible to play out side off stump balls to onside. If we do then batsman seems to play weird shot animation but eventually ball goes to legside.
Shot animation and shot are different. It's a serious game play bug.
This issue needs a fix .But i don't understand why BA is not listening to potential players and even Beta testers.

I have been facing the issue (weird shot animations ) right from the launch on pc .
Only good and short length deliveries pitching on outside off stump, if we try to play them onside like Smith and Kohli then the problem arise (for pull and yorker length deliveries the shot animations are perfect).
Batsman shot animation seems to take either square drive or square cut , but the ball going to the legside .It's weird animation and definitely needs a fix.
I have video clips and will post in proper bug reports thread.

dont forget that there were huge improvements in both dbc14 and dbc17 after release. The sad thing was that playing
in single player wasnt great for various problems:
- in dbc 14 it was too difficult to get AI wickets
- dbc17 had the "smash pad" issue, and the "AI captain" was poor and annoying
- in rll4 the game was more polished but less "enjoyable", according to the forums

Ashes will have probably even more patching, considering the money they have invested. And Ross justified the price for
the cost of supporting the game with patches, so for now i wouldnt be worried. Just hope that the "final" patch give us
an exciting game.

You have to look at things from a different perspective... Since DBC 14 we have got DBC 17 which actually took a couple of steps back in that it couldn't even get stats right. Then we were told wait for Ashes Cricket as we are going to publish the game. And what do we get? A rehash of DBC 17 with almost the same issues - including botched stats which one would think would've been fixed since DBC 17. I struggle to figure out what changed other than adding mo-caps. AI is nearly the same, default fields are still the same, stats issues persist etc. I didn't get to play the much hyped patch 1.03 as when I got my hands on the game it was already on patch 1.05 and later 1.06 so forgive my scepticism.

I gave DBC 17 a pass but I struggle to understand how the same issues (stats and poor AI fields) still remain unaddressed. I can understand game balancing needing a tweak but surely stats can be nailed. And the AI fields have actually regressed since DBC 17, which I didn't think was possible. That's why at this point all I want and expect is for Big Ant to fix stats and default AI fields so I can at least play career mode even though the game is more arcadey than what was promised. Surely these two items are not asking for a lot?

I don't know why I need to look at it from a different perspective when that perspective is explicitly one that hasn't played a build i have played and that was vastly superior.

Even now, it's still better than a rehash of dbc17 because it has retained the possibility of all dismissals.

AI fields are also not identical to dbc17 and nor are the issues with them.

So no I don't need to look at it from that perspective, nor will I.

I will look at it from the perspective that there is/was a fine game here, a leap forward from dbc17. The post release support has not been what any of us expected or hoped for and has taken the game backwards rather than improving the few issues that remained.

I do wonder if my memory is awful cause lots of people seem to think otherwise but I am sure we've had more patches so far with Ashes than we got during the entire support phase of the previous games.

Nope we've had 3 patches - but 1.05 simply undid the bug introduced by 1.04 and if anyone can identify a change actually made by 1.06 they're a better man than me.
