Ashes Cricket General Discussion

I haven't changed any modifiers but the game feels a lot better with lower skilled players, always has. Found that playing with the associate teams at first.

It's like i've said before.. I think it's mostly been the case in all the dbc's and now AC. Not sure how the guys who are creating teams are doing them but im guessing they use the default team/player ratings as a guide. This could be huge going forward if the skills were lowered across all teams. All I've played is your 1993 teams @wasteyouryouth since you uploaded them. The matches are much better balance I feel. :)

Generally I use the default ratings as a guide if I'm creating a new player or reskilling a player but I only do that in instances where the player is obviously incorrect - for example Jason Holder set as a bowler with each batting skill set at 4.

I'm reluctant to do anything major at the moment. Reason 1: I don't want to mess up people's game. Reason 2: the next patch might be better reflective of skills as they are.

Doesn't mean it's not possible. It'd maybe take a concerted effort involving a few willing and knowledgable volunteers. The way the spreadsheet I set up works is based on first class averages then is balanced with 'opinion'. The real time would be collecting all that information and then updating players.

I agree. I am enjoying batting in career mode where my player skill level is 50 and i'm playing in Legend mode with Hardest batting difficulty. Scoring runs is pretty hard, you have to be patient and wait for the loose balls for scoring opportunity. In 50 matches i managed to score only 1850 runs with 8 50's and 1 century :p. Whereas when i played the ashes series in Legend mode with Hardest batting difficulty i was able to score freely and in no time Eng were 76/1 in 5 overs.

Yeah I was thinking the same (mainly reason 2)

The cook Skills are the biggest stand out to me... Just so wrong 98 in most batting skills from my memory. Just feels the top players have to be 90ish as all other sports games do that but i feel it 'breaks' these cricket games.

I have tried really messing with bowlers skills to try and 'force' them to use their well known bowling traits. But i don't think i done it correctly :)

Do you know what the bouncer delivery type does? To me it doesn't look like it does much lol

I get the impression that the players in the academy were neglected somewhat, perhaps cause of a quick turnover since getting the license. Totally think that the top players are rated so highly because it needs to 'look' right.

I hadn't touched the bowling skills in those 1993 teams - from where I'd set them anyway - I am going to have a play around, particularly with the spinners. It would be nice to know if they just bowl all deliveries regardless of the skill rating or if deliveries are selected based on their skill level to bowl them. There is a bouncer option when bowling but to be honest it doesn't seem to produce much different effects from the other deliveries.

A friend sent me his scorecard from playing DBC 14 the other day. He was England and scored 932 all out in 106 overs. It doesn't feel like it'd be much different on this game if you just played with all the batting markers and on the same difficulty (probably Pro or Veteran). Getting a realistic run rate often feels like having to play in a certain way. I'm sure I'm not alone in perhaps being more conservative sometimes to make it feel more realistic.

That's where its been more enjoyable with lower rated players. I've had some real struggles batting. It's a lot more enjoyable and rewarding. I really do think it's too easy to get a batsman 'in' though, particularly on legend. Once their confidence is green the ball flies off the bat to the boundary.

@wasteyouryouth I have tried with lyon setting his 'special' delivery at 0... Still bowls spinning the wrong way multiple times (3-4) an over :(

Edit*

Just faced 2 overs from lyon... 4-5 were spinning wrong way. 1 was the ball fliped the other side with 0 spin at all .. I will now trying flipping the skills onto special and off stock delivery.

What about his mentality? Is he aggressive? Try setting him as precise. I think the more attacking the mentality the more likely they use variation

I remember Ross or Matt saying sometime during 14 days that "0" means default value..So try 1-5 points and see..

Definitely something strange going on with spinners.

Currently set to -
Stock = 1
Arm ball = 1 < Yeah i know this is silly i just thought i'd try it :P
Top = 50
Special = 100

2 Overs =
Ball with 0 spin barely spinning the wrong way Seam pointing to point/square leg = 6
Big off spinning delivery = 3
Spinning wrongun = 1 with zero turn / 1 Big turn
seam upright barely spinning backwards = 1

I know it's a very small sample size. Will look into a more suitable and through test

All bowling delivery types to 50 \/
2 Overs
Wrongun - 5
Off break - 1
Top - 1
Arm - 5

I think my lack of sleep over the past few days are taking it's toll on me :lol

Why most of them here says that, they don't see the ball during matches... I can see the ball perfectly... there is no problem... also there is graphics setting which makes ball visible more...

Are you sat 6 inches from your screen with ball trail and aerial marker on?

There is no setting to make the ball more visible apart from those mentioned above. In dbc17 you didn't need any silly graphical references to see the ball. You could see it fine without. Just like in every cricket game....apart from Ashes cricket.
