Ashes Cricket General Discussion

I have noticed many have said that reducing the ratings of players creates more edges and a better game play overall.

Any recommendations as to which ratings and to to how much I can reduce to re create the edges? Also, is there an easy way to do this, or will I have to do it Player by Player?

The only thing that fills me with a glimmer of hope at the moment is that BA said that there was 'news' to come on a future patch. Now I might be reading too much into this but this does imply that work is already underway and there is some sort of news to reveal as otherwise they'd just say that they were 'working on a patch'.

My main point of concern is dropping the likes of Blocker, Wealey and all of the other beta testers. From what we all played early on it seemed that you and BA had worked well together to produce a fine cricket game. Also the requests you were making public on the forum were entirely sensible and seemed to highlight a clear way forward for the game. Now as you say Blocker Ba might have found new beta testers as they felt the need for a new pair of eyes however I can't see how this would be more effective than using the people who knew the game inside out and were also a part of the Planet Cricket community (my theory is BA's relationship with us has somewhat soured but that's a whole other tale for a different time).

Fingers crossed that something is afoot......

i don't believe it is possible to get back that build, except by a fluke. the truth is that it's not clear what changes had the negative impact. it doesn't seem as if BA have the systems to control those things.

also, IF they are working on a patch, it is with zero engagement of the beta people. i guess they may have found others, but they are not communicating with us.

as for that prod animation - that push at the ball is of itself not bad, it is one that happens in a game. the outcome of it flying for 6 over the slips - THAT is the problem. the physics in the game is unreasonable, and an insult to the intelligence of the player. this is the most outrageous example, but the edge i highlighted in wealey's video above is another one.

we are effectively rolling dice and the game is just constructing a narrative. our input has only an incidental impact on that narrative. (or, on lower levels with the shot replacement, literally no impact.)
you would think that a game that costs $100 would have endured something called game testing... The devs should be making sure EVERYTHING works before releasing patches instead of focusing on one little part

It doesn't look like the game isn't working, it just seems more like it lacks the depth.

Maybe if there wasn't a slog at the end of every over or if mentalities worked it wouldn't be so easy to figure out.

Why do edges always accelerate off the bat as well? Done write than others, but unless it's a flashy cut shot to gully/3/4 slip, generally the ball maintains speed, or slows down, not accelerate through to the keeper/slips

Well, the very implementation of edges in the BA games is very similar to the previous games from EA. Edges are basically considered as special form of shots which are given some sort of shot power. So many times irrespective of the speed of the ball, the edges carry or don’t carry as much as it should.

It’s a sort of a workaround, rather than true implementation of physics behind edges.

It works to an extent for fast bowler edges, but the edges coming off spinners don’t look true whatsoever.

And it’s not just the edges, many other factors like reaction time of fielders, separate Wicket keeper implementation, etc and not done well.

Just had a hilarious moment in the ODI I'm playing now. Somehow forgot how to bowl and threw down 2 horrible wides in a row that nearly missed the pitch completely, then a no-ball, then I hit top of off and clean-bowled him (playing with no free-hits). Almost like he was shocked I actually managed to bowl a good delivery. :p

Still on Pro. Pitch was Dusty/Hard/Wearing/Light cracks but very overcast conditions. Main thing was I had shot force set at 0. Can't really say I noticed a huge difference, maybe some sixes went 80-90m instead of 100-110? Definitely there was a still a few moments of "I'm hitting a six and there's nothing you can do about it".

But still was pretty enjoyable and looked very 2000s West Indies :p. Gayle's dismissal was just fantastic for him: massive expansive back-foot drive nicked straight to slip. :lol:facepalm

Some blasts from the the past there!

The lack of communication from BA (a few tweet replies) is a real shame :(

Hey guys. I had this weird experience with ashes. I have a 32 inch tv and usually do not experience any lag / delay.

I took my ps4 to my gfs house where she has a 55 inch tv 4k but it seemed to be stuttering all over the place. Awkward frame rates with the game not running smoothly at all.

Does anyone have an explanation for this? No other games have done that on her tv...

I don't think the game is optimised for the Pro. Not sure how it performs on the Xbox onex .

Thanks. That's a real shame.

I was thinking of getting a 4k 55 inch tv as well. Do many people experience lag or frame rate issues on bigger tvs for this game?
