Ashes Cricket General Discussion

Thanks. That's a real shame.

I was thinking of getting a 4k 55 inch tv as well. Do many people experience lag or frame rate issues on bigger tvs for this game?

For me I notice lag only in custom stadiums with lots of trees in the background and high object %. I have 40inch hd standard ps4

Given the flack they’ve been getting over AO Tennis we might not see a patch, I’d ever, for another month or so.

@Plotinus here is that diving catch:

(yes, there's no crowd sound. for some reason it didn't appear during that game, despite being turned up in audio settings.)
That's a great animation (though an unlikely catch for second slip), that I haven't seen at all in many hours of playing the game. I would also much prefer to see this in the outfield rather than that casual one-handed-crouch-scoop-catch that is the norm. I know that, in some sense, it's just an animation and, given the 99% catch success rate, doesn't affect the end result but it's the sort of polish that is missing from the game. You never see a fielder dash in from the boundary and launch themselves into a diving catch like that to take a difficult chance or cover leaping high to their left to take pluck a lofted drive out of the air. They either bend their knees a bit and catch it at their ankles, saunter in to let it bounce before throwing it back, or let it go by them and then turn and halfheartedly jog after it. Also, on the topic of catching edges...does the ball ever go to any position that isn't second slip, keeper or gully? Is there any point in having a full slip cordon? I really can't recall 1st, 3rd or 4th slip doing much.

yep. it's crazy to have an animation like that in the game and hide it. it's the one and only time in any of the 3 games i've seen an animation of that quality. as you say it's usually that bend and scoop, never ever been used for a catch in real life ever, POS animation. madness.

don’t get me wrong I agree with what is being said.

The game is on my shelf now and hasn’t been touched in a while.

I claimed this to be the game all cricket fans had waited for and my feedback during testing was that of complete excitement and praise.

I spent hours making videos and testing.

That game never made it to the public. And tweaks that many have asked for I asked a million times More and nothing was addressed.

I’m not angry. I’m just confused. Confused to why that’s the case.

And it's very much appreciated. Attacking BA is not from a position of combativeness, but of frustration, that we nearly had an awesome game. I'm no expert on coding but we are not asking for the wheel to be reinvented, but for some depth in attributes and skilling, and some common sense outcomes when batting.

But now since Ross has mentioned that they are working on a patch and I am sure you guys would be engage in that sooner..Is it possible to get back "THAT" version of the game which was really enjoyable against AI? I know it was there but will it see the light and get through to the patch along with whatever tweaks thats required for the game?

Also would like them to remove the front foot prod animation and replace them with proper good looking animations...It not only looks ugly but many times it just ruins the AI gameplay..If AI has decided that its gonna play on the off side theres no stopping ..Try bowling leg side to them and they slide even more leg side and play that horrendous shot wherever they please on the off side and mostly into the small gap there would be for a boundary..There are many shots which have just vanished over patches as it was similar cases with earlier games as well...

There are many things that can be done to this game, make it the best or just push to OK status, certainly not sure what to expect out of it..

I'm playing the "Ben Stokes" build and it's massively enjoyable. Okay, there might not be the depth to the individual shot attributes, but bowling to David Warner and Peter Handscomb feels different, it feels like you have a chance of anything happening, and it's fun. I have a bit more playing to do. There is a great cricket game somewhere here but it feels like we aren't able to access it. I wish there was more engagement. I racked up 254 matches with Craig McMillan on Brian Lara 2005.. I've played a few cricket games.

Here's a all the dismissals (AI and human)plus a few other bits from the match i just finished.

A drawn match, where the AI posted 2 excellent scores and made a tastyish declaration (5.4 an over), and I was 7-down at the close. Varied dismissals. human edges... there was a lot good about the match. it shows where the game can reach...

but the let downs are big big big - joke physics (hard pitch but so many edges not carrying, or balls bouncing before the keeper cuz the input was "good" not "perfect", 4/6 off prod shots), zero pitch deterioration and terrible pitch visuals, lack of edge variation, awful 4th innings bowling/fielding AI, AI slogging to maintain an rpo ignoring mentality or ball quality, no sense of AI bowling plan, Van der Bijl always in the slips etc.

if i thought there would be any coherent, meaningful support I'd be excited. the basics are SO there. but i'm no longer prepared to grant them the benefit of the doubt.

What's your batting settings/sliders? (sorry to lazy to check). Encouraged that they actually got you out playing a defensive shot, and batting looked pretty sweet.

Not having your bat beaten, stumps flying or LBW off a defensive shot is the main thing putting me off batting.

If this is how things are going for AO Tennis (and I'm hearing a lot of negativity about it from all sorts of users), then I'm sure Big Ant are at least flat out patching the hell out of that game right now. Certainly hope they have time for the Ashes which seems to be suffering the death of a thousand cuts with it's dozens of annoying minor issues which add up to an unenjoyable overall game.

If Big Ant chose to go back to their attitude, public engagement and releasing of actually near finished games from around the time of Rugby League Live 2 and Don Bradman Cricket '14 (they both eventually became very good games via patches and were adequate at release), then they'd find that they wouldn't be copping anywhere near so much criticism.

I've seen the annoyance, contempt and silence Big Ant has had for naysayers (first it was the nasty people on Facebook, then on their forums, now on Planet Cricket, next it'll be reviewers) and it's getting them nowhere.

I'm 42 and one of the better lessons I've had to learn via growing up is that I'm not always right, I'm only human, I make mistakes. When I do, I need to front up for them, apologize, rectify them and move on. It's not enjoyable, but having to swallow your pride and face up is part of being an adult. It doesn't matter how rich or poor you are, they're still good rules to live by.

It's ironic Ross and Big Ant have done the same to Tennis gaming what Ross blamed Mike Fegan of doing to cricket gaming, i.e. poison the water for other games to follow. Now folks will be circumspect about Tennis World Tour coz they will look back at AO Tennis and claim "but tennis games on this gen are crap".

As for Ashes cricket, the Ashes series is long gone and we are still awaiting a decent patch. So much for "support" and "we back our product". Well at least this time they can't throw Tru Blu under the bus and blame them for a buggy incomplete game a la DBC 17.

While batting, anything I try to hit to square on the off, the stupid Prod shot gets triggered( Irrespective of aggressive, attacking or precise shot.) All this while I was thinking it was the AI batting, but the animation mapping to the controls itself is incorrect.

What goes around comes around

also, IF they are working on a patch, it is with zero engagement of the beta people. i guess they may have found others, but they are not communicating with us.

That line scares me. I only spent another $60 because of the confidence I had in the beta team. I have been a BA supporter but after DBC 17 I was not very keen on getting Ashes. I have no idea what is the strength of the company but it definitely seems with having a "MO-CAP" studio they thought they could get away with almost everything. The strength because there are two unfinished games out in the market and I have no clue which will they focus on? Both the licensed tournament is over no one will have interest in will the team have any interest?

Tbf, if going by Big Ben's previous Rugby game then Tennis World Tour could be absolutely woeful.
