Ashes Cricket General Discussion

the difference for me is tennis got honest reviews from the media, ashes didn't. i saw the builds that ashes would have been reviewed on, and believe me they were not the 7/8+ that ashes was given. there was a build that was a solid 7.5 or better (lack of pitch variation mainly let it down, plus AI fields, but otherwise gameplay was solid). but ashes was not reviewed on that build, and the scores that were posted were simply dishonest.

unfortunately for the community, the best build we had in beta coincided with the embargo lift, so you got a lot of positivity. unfortunately that build was never released, but even so the day one release was head and shoulders above the current build.

the community need to hold BA accountable, and the only way to do that is turn our backs on future releases until they are proven to be adequate. if it risks them withdrawing from the market, so be it. the current approach isn't serving the community.

BA talked a huge game around self-publishing and backing their game. if they hadn't messed up build 1.04, this game would have got literally one day of support. as it was it got 2. the "3rd patch" was a fig leaf. there has not been a single improvement made to this game since release, only regression. it won't change because they've got their sales, they've got their reviews. tennis they had to sort because it was disastrous.
Very sad and disappointing to read this. With every passing week without a patch release its getting more frustrating

Very interesting. @blockerdave was a big BA supporter from the start (level-leaded mature type, as opposed to mad fanboy type) and also on the beta team for Ashes. Obviously a lot must've happened (haven't followed the forum closely for the past month) to lead to this ton of discontent. I'm curious if others on the beta team feel the same?

Personally, I still think Ashes is the best cricket game on the market (better than DBC14/17; bought and played all of them) with a few things holding it back from being a 8-9/10 (AI field settings issue being the top one). I still have hope that this patch that BA alludes to in various twitter posts will take us there. I realize I only play offline T20s/ODIs and so people who play tests/online/career will have a different opinion.

Yeah I've always followed @blockerdave for a balanced view on where things are. He like me wants a decent cricket game, is happy to help build it, and doesn't care where it comes from. I admire BA for venturing into the fray of cricket gaming, hardly a massive money spinner, but this whole run rate capped at 3.5 is really inexcusable in a cricket game, as is the total lack of engagement after we've spent our hard earned on three iterations.

How many people are in this beta team? Are they paid for their time.Curious to know. Are they coders or testers?

I think I can maybe hint that this lil thing is being looked at. Well I’ve been going over it.

@blockerdave talks a lot of sense. I can see 100% where he is coming from.

BA have this ability to be very exciting and supportive, then disappear from the face of the planet.

I’m still on the beta team and I’m still keen to report back everything as has already been done and get some of these things sorted.

I will never know what goes on behind closed doors and it’s non of my business really.

But I do get the frustration around this place.

0 pay and I wouldn’t want to be.
Spent over 200 hours going over and over stuff.

I need to clear this up.
The issues people have having and flagging are not due to us missing it in beta or not understanding the game.

@blockerdave will testify to this.

The majority of issues iv gone on and on and on about it.

I’m no coder no, but I no cricket and that’s enough to no what’s right and wrong to feedback to the coders.

The main reason I have shelved the game for now is batting. I know beta testers won't be able to report this but I just find batting far too easy, even with all modifiers set to max. I consistently make 300's in T20 cricket. I hope that gets worked. I've since been playing 17 and get a lot more from my batting experience in that game.

It’s definitely well known

This is my biggest issue, play on legend on hardest batting and do not edge the ball. I cannot be that good :p

try - a place where the supermarket is the only thing open after 6pm and even they close by 11
Lol our "supermarkets" close at 8pm and sell nothing else but food items and the usual house items. The only places that we can buy games from usually close by like 6pm... It's interesting to see how different countries operate though...
