Ashes Cricket General Discussion

Very interesting. @blockerdave was a big BA supporter from the start (level-leaded mature type, as opposed to mad fanboy type) and also on the beta team for Ashes. Obviously a lot must've happened (haven't followed the forum closely for the past month) to lead to this ton of discontent. I'm curious if others on the beta team feel the same?

Personally, I still think Ashes is the best cricket game on the market (better than DBC14/17; bought and played all of them) with a few things holding it back from being a 8-9/10 (AI field settings issue being the top one). I still have hope that this patch that BA alludes to in various twitter posts will take us there. I realize I only play offline T20s/ODIs and so people who play tests/online/career will have a different opinion.

Not knocking your opinion and I'm glad you enjoy it so much, but I can't in all seriousness see it being only a few steps from a 8-9/10! I play mainly ODI/T20 and other custom length short games with friends off-line and single player AI.

I have no idea how people can overlook things like the poor AI decisions and AI field settings.

Things like shots looking all wrong in various situations (going for a late cut and something coming out that looks like a run-down shot to third man except it flies through the air with an unnatural velocity for 6 - regularly). There are other similar issues with other shots too.

Things like being able to hit sixes almost whenever you like across almost all difficulties and having to adjust the game to make them not travel so far!

Choosing custom fields requiring about 5-6 steps to make happen, which throughout a match (especially 2 player) can take up a lot of time and make people not bother so just keep on using what you have.

Catching (in semi-assisted), that is basically FULLY assisted and players catch vitually everything! The previous system of actually having to press the stick in the direction the catch after the ball is coming down from the height of it's arc (DBC '14) is gone. Now fielding is.... nothing at all. Oh sorry, you get to chuck the ball back.

Shots straight down the ground in broadcast view being cut off by the cam and being able to see right through the fielder's body.

To set-up traditional cricket gaming views having to go through a selection process of many views for batting, bowling, running, fielding and inverting controls.

Swing which at default level is wildly unrealistic.

Custom Stadia appearing twice or more in the list of grounds to choose from.

Attributes for many created players being more or less meaningless in their effect.

There are so many issues with this game, that those were just the ones that bother me the most. There are literally dozens of others. I think what you like is that there is a Cricket game out there. You obviously love cricket and the things that work well, you love them too. You're willing to overlook a lot of things, because of that. I love Cricket too and I envy your ability to overlook so many poor aspects to the game.

I think I can maybe hint that this lil thing is being looked at. Well I’ve been going over it.

@blockerdave talks a lot of sense. I can see 100% where he is coming from.

BA have this ability to be very exciting and supportive, then disappear from the face of the planet.

I’m still on the beta team and I’m still keen to report back everything as has already been done and get some of these things sorted.

I will never know what goes on behind closed doors and it’s non of my business really.

But I do get the frustration around this place.

It's great to hear that it might be being looked at. It's almost like there's a fear that anything we players hear about being work on, we'll assume it's fixed so no-one tells us anything. No, that almost never happens. I don't remember anyone ever thinking so until comparing patch notes to results!

You're definitely another one, like blocker who will call things as he sees them from both sides of the issues. You work hard with the beta to make the game better across so many areas of the game and are amongst the few who deserve more than just beta work. Big Ant need more people who'd say, "No, we surely need to fix this before release?".

I would like to add broken stats and career mode to the list... surely not a few steps from 8-9/10. Then again this game was made for casual fans and they may very well give it a 8 or 9 just like the reviewers did.

He is clearly talking about what is being fixed on the beta stream.
I would have thought that was too open ended and an on going thing... Until they release then we will not have a determined list. Patches have caused problems to same gameplay experience but interesting to note T20 is a relatively decent experience... IMHO.[DOUBLEPOST=1518642133][/DOUBLEPOST]
Haha u tricked me I thought there was a update at first dam
Not yet but I feel we're getting close...

I play on fixed close cam with batting inverted, classic mode and batsman aerial marker off (aerial marker on on however, so that one can see where the ball lands).

If you try to play this with 2 players in the same team the batting inverted settings go haywire. 2 player couch Co op mode hence left broken.....

What about players from the academy not looking like themselves (snake eyes and patchy dark skin ? )

If those 2 things get fixed, I will personally keep my mouth shut about bigant ,provided that I don't waste my money and go and purchase ao tennis.

“What has been fixed so far” - the question even removed the open ended element.

Meaning past patch 'fixes' ergo past patch notes...

Future patches are a thing of secrecy and I have never seen 'pre' patch notes... Their is a wish list but do we hear of current work... ?

Hope you've had a good valentines day x

The words, I worry people will kick off if the game ships with this, definitely left my mouth on more than one occasion.

I just come back to the same old.. I have no idea what goes on behind scenes so I’ll never understand.

What I will say though, is with the Ashes tag this game in my opinion was definitely aimed at the more casual fan base.

I stressed and made the point that in my opinion you have to LOVE cricket to put hours into a cricket game.

The casuals will slog around for an hour or so then shelve the game. For me making a cricket game catering to the casual may increase sales. But you alienate the hardcore and they are the ones that will carry on playing the game

I’m average at batting. I’m a god in this game. I flagged this up before Christmas. Be interesting to know if people think it’s a timing thing, or more of a certain shot selection thing

Fairly certain not timing related as I get very early, early, late, very late all the time and either miss the ball or just loses pace/direction
