Ashes Cricket General Discussion

Haa anyone heard about a new patch on the horizon. I did email Ross at Big Ant but haven't had a reply yet

My only concern from a gameplay perspective is the value of moving ball be it swing/seam or spin , you don't feel rewarded when you bowl a massive in dipper because you can do it every 2nd ball and almost every bowler in your team can move it in the air and off the pitch both ways ,and also the batsmen easily negotiate them as if it is a gun barrel straight ball , and some times you do get bowled/LBW on a similar delivery , that just feels random to be honest , if they had separate attributes for swing and seam bowling and your normal swing /seam delivery just moves ever so slightly just to be able to get noticed visually and the odd magic special delivery behaves what its now for every other ball resulting in playnmiss or chances would make the bowling thoroughly enjoying and rewarding.

It’s funny because in DBC14 the ball never spun, now it spins square but the batsmen handle it fine.

I’d like to see the pitch and the conditions reduce the swing and spin abilities. So if you have a 75 for spin, and you’re bowling on a flat track, your spin level should be halved. Something like that.

Reduced movement (or none for some pitch conditions) and the odd magic delivery is the only thing which can make bowling rewarding.

Boom! I am taking this as some sort of karma type deal. The more talk the game down for not giving me edges off defensive shots, the more they're going to keep happening for me!

This one was great and the only time I've got out to a seamer playing a defensive shot against the AI (Lyon seems to get me from time to time as a spinner, mainly through poor timing). Online Co-Op game against the AI again, back with the IND v PAK contest. We're already up by about 250 in the 3rd innings, but as you can see from the score we were in a bad spot. So I try to slow it down and build a little bit, only to receive a ball of the century candidate lol Pitching outside leg and smashes the top of off stump?! At 77mph?! I am perfectly happy to say that was too good for me :D

And this one is from my career game, looks spot on. Well, the set up does, bit of inswing, holds the line off the pitch, edge and out (and kudos to Bairstow behind the stumps for the take!). Perfect test match dismissal for a pace bowler. On closer inspection, clearly animation issues to make the edge occur, but I'm ok with that if it provides a more authentic game experience.

I'll continue my chronicles of defensive shots that create an edge as this is my favourite so far. India touring South Africa, with myself and my regular Co-op chum doing the bowling as India (he was doing the bowling here).

I think we all know that hitting the batsman has very little tangible effect (though I have seen the colour of a batsman's confidence go down after being hit before), but in real life this one makes perfect sense.

Elgar opens the innings and Sharma roughs him up with the first 2 balls of the game, one in the ribs and one right in the grill, have that! One over later, Elgar leaps out of the way of one and fends it off to gully. I've seen the jumping defensive animation before, but I've never seen it produce an edge. Excellent!

I mean the current sliders?

If u ramp up spin and friction it def turns more?

Ok. Any chance they might just make it a reality without having to change the nature of the spin and friction each time you play. I mean the pitch quality should mean something.

What on earth are those kits? :lol

What on earth are those kits? :lol

I figured it is a known bug. When me and my friend first play a game online, that first playing session both kits are in whites (though the logos issue below is always the same). Any play session after that until the end of the games, the batting team always has some horrible glitchy kit on, like the one in the video. The kit only appears like that for the person NOT hosting. For the hosting player, everything looks normal.

It's the same for the logos as well. As you can see at the start of the video, the logo on the overview for Elgar is wrong as it isn't South Africa's logo. The logo on Elgar's head isn't right either. The logo for Sharma on his overlay is wrong, as is the logo on his shirt. Plus he has a blue square patch on his trousers. Again, it's just the visitor to the game it's a mess for, the Host is fine visually.

It is annoying, but I'm more here for the game play and enjoyment than to worry about it. If there is an easy fix, I'd go for it, but I've not found one. In a recent game we played between India and Pakistan, pre-game both myself and the host went into the Academy and downloaded the exact same version of India, the exact same version of Pakistan (both by @Llewelynf I'm pretty sure), the exact same version of two umpires, and the exact same version of Eden Gardens.

Still happened :)

No, but they are there for the time being..

And they can do what your wanting

tbf, they don't not really.

i think the point is not only about visual movement, but movement resulting in being harder to play (for humans and AI).

specifically with relation to swing, i'd also like control to be important. when it's swinging a lot, it's harder to control. the best ones like jimmy keep it accurate, whereas the lesser bowlers struggle for accuracy. natural variation is important too. at the moment if it's swinging it swings the same. what you want is balls swinging more or less due to natural variation
