Ashes Cricket General Discussion

Just a random question about the graphical side of the game, how come in this game the batsmen pads literally look like some 2D graphics? In DBC14 they looked like real life, different styles and what not but the ones in Ashes just look like they're from Cricket 2004, like so flat just looks odd?

I don't know why, but your post reminded me of this:

Oh so there's physics issue in real life as well..Nice...:lol

The bat was perfectly placed in the shot...

Lol @ baninshing my post showing faults with the game to a place where it’ll never get seen. Gotta pretend like these games are perfect and not upset sensitive developers

Legend hardest mode batting and bowling .
Me batting against ai

See how crap is ai.

There has never been a sports game that I've played that doesn't need some help from the user to make the AI feel realistic. Sure you can use the left trigger for every shot and that's what you'll get, but you don't have to.

Every game's AI is the same; the play that always works on 4th down in Madden; the play that's a guaranteed dunk in MLB2k; the corner routine that always scores in Championship Manager; the flop shot on the green in The Golf Club; the fake that guarantees a pickoff in The Show. I'm sure everyone can think of plenty. They all have them. You don't have to use them.

It's perfectly possible to have a realistic feeling game in Ashes Cricket. Sure there are some annoying things with the AI (final ball of every third over crushed etc) but it's also possible to make the game look stupid. You get the choice though. Either use some house rules or cheese the CPU, but if you choose cheese don't complain about the taste.

How dare you grace this place with intelligence and common sense......never a truer word has been spoken...

I don't really agree that it's up to the user to make the game look and feel anything like cricket, that is up to the game design/mechanics. I don't see the point in playing the game if I'm going to treat it more like an art project than a game, trying to manufacture "realistic" moments/scorelines out of it rather than simply playing a match and trying to win. Seen a few posts along the lines of "I can have a decent game, when I'm pretty much trying to let the CPU win...".

DBC17 let you almost completely restrict the CPU scoring anything due to it being so easy to bowl 6 perfect yorkers per over... You could easily just bowl maidens in the T20 career games... Why would I bother even attempting other deliveries?
Not my fault for "cheesing" it, it's the game's fault for having poor bowling mechanics that lack the scope for bowling length error (something that has barely improved in Ashes). Same with the batting, why try nudging the ball around and finding gaps when you can just blast it over them?

When it comes to crunch times in the match, where you need to restrict the opposition or accelerate the scoring, what then? Carry on doing the same "realistic" things or throw in a few of the "cheesy" things to try to win? By trying to play "realistic", you are not being challenged to think like you would on the pitch, using the strategies that work on the pitch to gain a competitive edge... You are just limiting yourself in an attempt to manufacture a pretty looking scorecard, and to me that's more boring than the "cheesing".

It happens in other games, sure... But an entire subset of cricket shots (aggressive lofted shots) being off limits because of the game's limitations is frankly ridiculous.

Let’s not ignore the fact that apart from an unrealistic run rate which we all know about when slogging the AI.

But the almighty online legend that is dean Jhones looks like he’s going to still get bowled for less than 400.

Agree with this wholeheartedly. A good game shouldn't need the player to restrict what they do due to limitations in the gameplay.

HeY guys, I noticed another bug while versing my friend at home the other day.

Whilst he was batting , the pitch marker showing where the ball lands during batting worked fine.

However, when it was my turn to bat it did not function at all. Had to switch the batsman aerial marker on and bat like the dbc days....

Has this bug been acknowledged and sent through to big ant via the beta team?

The real point I want to make is that I agree with u ai can never be like a human.
Ai has a same boring gameplay.
So the the patches should be designed accoring to the online gameplay to make the game 100% perfect.
With physics and technicalities.
As most of the loop holes are in online gameplay.
Fifa legendary mode u see how good it is?

600 for sure as I don't want to waste ai time as they getting hammered badly me vs ai home ground.
Crowds are requesting me to declare and requested me not to score 1000 runs so will be kind with ai leave them at 600...
Was playing in a eased mood or 2000 runs were there for sure.

FIFA legendary mode in Ashes Cricket would just be the AI hitting 6 off every ball. That would not be fun.

FIFA legendary mode is rigged AF. They know where you are going to pass it, know where you are going to run to, shoot to, its not an organic experience. Challenging yes, but I wouldn't call it realistic or a shining like of organic AI.

Advances in AI haven't kept pace with most other things in tech. The reason is because it's incredibly difficult, and those that have mastered it will keep it under lock and key to make as much money as possible.

I feel like a good solution would be a cloud bases one, where the game records what a human does against balls pitched in certain areas and then does performs the same shot in the same ratios. That way it would be like playing against an average human. To scale the difficulty, scale it more towards the most successful shot. I don't feel like it would be that difficult to do these days, I do a lot of big data stuff at work, but capturing the data and storing it is probably the biggest challenge.
