Brett Lee out of One Day Series

The National Selection Panel (NSP) have tonight confirmed that injured-fast bowler Brett Lee has been ruled out of the One Day International Series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates, being replaced by New South Wales pace bowler Doug Bollinger.
Brett Lee flew to South Africa to be with the team in their dismal One Day Series loss to South Africa, a result in which meant Australia have slipt to third on the ICC One Day International rankings - their lowest ranking in the history of the system.
The injuy to Lee’s ankle has resulted in the opening bowler missing all cricket so far this year, and in a desperate bid to be selected to play for Australia in the upcoming Ashes Tour in England, Lee headed to South Africa for the second edition of the Indian Premier League Twenty20 competition.
However after undergoing a vigiorus fitness test it was announced that Brett Lee will not travel with the Australian squad to the UAE for the One Day Series against Pakistan, after initially being named in the squad to make his comeback.
Cricket Australia’s National Selection Panel (NSP) today announced that Brett Lee is not yet fit enough to take his place in the Australia squad for its VB Pakistan Series in the United Arab Emirates.
Doug Bollinger has been added to the squad. Lee will remain in South Africa to continue his rehabilitation with a view to joining the squad in the United Arab Emirates at a later date, if he is deemed fit to do so.
NSP Chairman Andrew Hilditch said: “The National Selection Panel has been advised by Cricket Australia medical staff that Brett Lee is not yet fit enough to resume international cricket.”
“While it’s disappointing for Brett to miss the start of the VB Pakistan Series, the NSP wants to take a careful approach to his return to the Australian team.
“Doug Bollinger will join the squad in the UAE. Doug was probably a bit disappointed not to get a run during the Test series in South Africa, but this is an opportunity for Doug to impress at One-day level for Australia and I’m sure it’s an opportunity he’ll be keen to make the most of.”
Australia team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said: “Brett’s ankle has recovered well from surgery in January this year. However, the rehabilitation process is ongoing and, to date, Brett has not bowled sufficiently to allow him to be fit to resume playing cricket. Brett will remain in South Africa to continue the rehabilitation program and gradually increase his bowling volume and intensity. I will be monitoring Brett’s progress to assess his availability for any part of the VB series against Pakistan in the UAE.”
