Australia and Pakistan in UAE

Out of interest who's considered the 2nd keeper? I agree Akmal can be quite an embarrassment to wicket keeping. He does bat occassionally well but not enough to really cover up his blunders.

Sarfraz Ahmed will probably take over if Akmal suffered some type of untimely injury or illness. Sarfraz has been scoring plenty of runs in the domestic season, and has been opening the innings for his department side.

Also we must not look past 2004-2006 when Akmal was at his best, these keeping bludners started after the tour of England where he suffered a finger injury. Not sure how a class keeper (as he showed back then) and an excellent batsman can go downhill so fast.

I think Akmal was decent in the series against Sri Lanka so prehaps he is finding his form back.

I don't have the time to do this right now, but somebody needs to look for pictures of the Dubai stadium - truly a magnificent arena to play cricket in I think - should be an entertaining series.

Younis Khan's statement of 5-0 white washing the Aussies (which I heard it in news), is over confident statement is what I feel. I also have a feeling that other way is going to happen :p Lets see..

I guess Sarfraz Ahmed aint nothing special either, hes just another average Kamran Akmal type fella', well thats how I see his future.

^_^

No good wicketkeeper after this guy b.

His statement was taken out of context.

A reporter stated that his team is very weak, and Australia will probably whitewash you 5-0; his response was that the result will probably be 5-0, but it will be in favor of Pakistan.

Taken out of context, really - he has said to lower expectations on his team because it is a "new team" and the Australian series is a learning experience for his team.

Found his exact quote:

No doubt it will be 5-0, but in favour of Pakistan.

Obviously Younus Khan has a better sense of humour then many people here ^_^.

Are the teams playing any warm-up matches? For Australia it will be difficult since they are still playing in South Africa, but it's possible for Pakistan.

Well Pakistan haven't played against a good side for long time.
I think Pakistan are going to find it hard beating Australia

I wish we could change our squad a bit, Dussey has failed to produce in yet another series. Hodge can only dream of getting the run Dussey got as one bad series and he was out of our ODI side. Also with Harwood going alright maybe we could see him being added to the squad but I really don't see the point in investing in him since he will be 37 come the WC.

Brett Lee out of One Day Series
Written by: Brendon Meynell

The National Selection Panel (NSP) have tonight confirmed that injured-fast bowler Brett Lee has been ruled out of the One Day International Series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates, being replaced by New South Wales pace bowler Doug Bollinger.

Brett Lee flew to South Africa to be with the team in their dismal One Day Series loss to South Africa, a result in which meant Australia have slipt to third on the ICC One Day International rankings - their lowest ranking in the history of the system.

The injuy to Lee’s ankle has resulted in the opening bowler missing all cricket so far this year, and in a desperate bid to be selected to play for Australia in the upcoming Ashes Tour in England, Lee headed to South Africa for the second edition of the Indian Premier League Twenty20 competition.

However after undergoing a vigiorus fitness test it was announced that Brett Lee will not travel with the Australian squad to the UAE for the One Day Series against Pakistan, after initially being named in the squad to make his comeback.

Cricket Australia’s National Selection Panel (NSP) today announced that Brett Lee is not yet fit enough to take his place in the Australia squad for its VB Pakistan Series in the United Arab Emirates.

Doug Bollinger has been added to the squad. Lee will remain in South Africa to continue his rehabilitation with a view to joining the squad in the United Arab Emirates at a later date, if he is deemed fit to do so.

NSP Chairman Andrew Hilditch said: “The National Selection Panel has been advised by Cricket Australia medical staff that Brett Lee is not yet fit enough to resume international cricket.”

“While it’s disappointing for Brett to miss the start of the VB Pakistan Series, the NSP wants to take a careful approach to his return to the Australian team.

“Doug Bollinger will join the squad in the UAE. Doug was probably a bit disappointed not to get a run during the Test series in South Africa, but this is an opportunity for Doug to impress at One-day level for Australia and I’m sure it’s an opportunity he’ll be keen to make the most of.”

Australia team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said: “Brett’s ankle has recovered well from surgery in January this year. However, the rehabilitation process is ongoing and, to date, Brett has not bowled sufficiently to allow him to be fit to resume playing cricket. Brett will remain in South Africa to continue the rehabilitation program and gradually increase his bowling volume and intensity. I will be monitoring Brett’s progress to assess his availability for any part of the VB series against Pakistan in the UAE.”

It's better for Lee to fully recover from his injuries, otherwhile he might be off action again for a while.

PS the Ashes i coming up, so they wann' rest him as much as they can.

The series in UAE isn't being sponsored by VB, its being sponsored by a construction company, Chapal Bros and Bank Alfalah. Just correcting something in the article :p
