Story Australia In Bangladesh (ICC06) END OF THE GAME

Australia in Bangladesh
Bangladesh v Australia - 2nd Test Match
Lunch Interval - Day 2 1.00pm

Day 2 arrived and it was Australia that had the full day's batting ahead of them. Matthew Hayden and Michael Clarke were the openers for Australia, and what a glorious day they have ahead of them. Chasing down 263 posted by Bangladesh yesterday, Australia mixed round their team line-up to see if they can come out with the best possible start. Bangladesh would be trying to limit Australia to a low score, so then Bangladesh could make another 200_, so then they would want Australia chasing 300 odd to win the match, but this is in the future, and this is now. Australia need 263 to level with Bangladesh.

The Aussies came out, and had a big score to chase. They have mixed around their line-up with Michael Clarke replacing Gichrist at the top order, and Gilly went back to his usual Test position at number 7. Hayden and Clarke were the openers for Australia and both got off to a good start. Both men seemed really defensive in the 1st couple of overs. Exspecially Michael Clarke, he wasnt playing the ball well. Alot of swing to the right hander in cClarke which Clarke wasnt enjoying at all. It was slow going for Australia early, but when Clarke got a ball into the ribs, he started getting angry and playing the ball alot better. Hayden on the other hand was playing well, not too quick, but was starting to get a feel of the pitch and started to look comfortabel about the 10th over of the Innings. Australia put on a good partnership between these 2 players. But Michael Clarke let his guard down for a second there and the worst happened. The spin of Hossain was going to always be the problem to the right hander. Clarke who was impressive early, made 33 before he was dissmsed by Hossain and Saleh taking a wonderful catch at slip. Clarke went for 97 balls hitting 3 boundaries, and now Australia are looking down the barrel. Although now Ricky Ponting is at the crease, so bad news for Bangladesh, and they will be looking not to let Ponting get into the action today.
Matthew Hayden is looking good at the minute, is on 44 not out, and should be looking for his half century early after lunch, and would be hoping to looking making a century in the game ahead.

Tea Interval - Day 2

It is Tea here day 2 of the Test Match. Australia are looking comfortable to scoring Bangladesh's 1st score in the Innings. Australia are 169 for 3 going into the Tea break with Andrew Symonds and Michael Hussey at the crease. Australia only needs 94 runs to equal and pass Bangladesh's first Innings score.

Matthew Hayden put some smile on the Aussie faces, making a half a ****ury early in the Afternoon Session. Just 10 minutres back onto the ground after lunch, Hayden reached the milestone and was looking dangerous. Hayden made his 50 from 111 balls, was out on the ground in the heat for 141 minutes playing with both Clarke and Ponting out in the middle. Hayden hit 7 boundaries on his way to his 50 which gave him a strike rate of 45.92%. Hayden took the time when making his century, soaking up the atsmophere, and himself and Ponting enjoyed a hug out in the middle of the ground, something Hayden will never forget.

But unfortunately for Australia and Matty Hayden, he couldnt go on and make the 100. Instead he last till 84 before he was dimissed. After a long haul in the middle. Thriving heat for 214 minutes was just getting to Hayden, and would of been happy to have been dismissed on 84. He would of loved to have made that century, but 84 would make him feel like he helped the team out alot and would be happy with his result. 176 balls Hayden faced, and hit 12 boundaires along his way, giving him a strike rate of 47.17%

Australia are now 169 for 3, and with only 94 runs to chase down, Australia look in the more comfortable position. Michael Clarke enjoyed batting 1st in the Test Match, had alot of freedom he hasnt been getting out the mieddle of the ground, and making 33. As we talked about, Matthew Hayden was brilliant, making 84, before being dismmised by Hossain who fainlly got the big fella out with a LBW wicket. Ricky Ponting was dissapointing in his Innings, only making 16, would be dissapointed with his result this afternoon and will be looking to do better next Innings. And Andrew Symonds and Michael Hussey are at the crease now going into the Tea break, with Symonds on 23, going nicely at the moment, and Hussey has just come to the crease just 15 minutes ago, and has made a good start with 10 runs from 22 balls.

The Bangladesh bowlers have been pretty dissapointing, or either that or the Australian batsmen have been better. But Bangladesh have seemed to take it easy against Aussies in this Ininngs. Not many wickets have been taken so far in the Aussies batting Innings, with Hossain being the better bowler from the lot, taking 2 wickets, and the crucial wicket of Matty Hayden. A. Hasan has also chipped in with a wicket. Rafique, who was the better bowler from the 1st Test, Australia has workred him out and has gone for 63 from 20 overs, going more then 3 runs per over.

End of Day 2

Australia have taken the lead at the end of the Day 2's play. Helped by Matty Hayden and Andrew Symonds, the Australians enjoy a 38 run lead going into the 3rd day of play. Australia have made the 300 mark with 8 wickets down, and will be looking to let the tail enders make something of the scoreboard. Stuart Clark is at the crease and we all know he loves to smash around the ball a bit with his power.

Andrew Symonds was the player of the day. Coming in at number 4 and taking away the show from Matty Hayden who made 50+ earlier in the morning. Symonds, who was looking for a good start got one, and didnt let the Aussies ddown. Twice Symonds played the ball, but took away his bat just in time to save a wicket from the Aussies. Symonds 50 came from 103 balls, after 122 minutes, and hitting 4 boundaires. With a strike rate of 49.51%. Symonds was very crucial to the Aussies batting line-up.

Symonds then went on to make 83 before he was dismissed. Symonds's highest score so far in this Tournament and for the year. It took 124 balls and out in the middle for 150 minutes. Symonds went nuts in the last few overs of the days play, hitting 11 boundaries and smashing a rare 6, as it was the 1st for the tounrament so far between these 2 sides. Symonds hit the ball down the ground for 6, which the Aussie supporters loved. Symonds was happy with his effort today and made a huge imput to the Aussie Scoreline.

After Symonds, the Australian batting line-up didnt really dominate at all. After Symondas and Hayden the Australia batting scoreline would be nothing. Michael Hussey couldnt find the right ball to hit around and played a horrible shot, and decided to take a chance and was ran out with making 18. Adam Gilchrist was very dissapointing after having a good game in the 1st Test Match. Only making 14 before he was gone by Hossain the spinner and Islam the catcher after trying an attempt of a 6 down the ground. Brett Lee showed something while at the crease, but couldnt continue and was caught by Rahim with Salahuddin the bowler, Lee made 13. Mitchell Johnson, the new kid on the block, was having his 1st Batting turn and pllayed well. Made 18 from 15 balls, but the good sign was he hit 4 boundaries during the time. Stuart Clark and Shane Watson are at the crease at the end of the day and will be looking to build on Australia's lead, with Shaun Tait to come.

cricket2007041822021226qg1.jpg

H. Hossain has been Bangladesh's best bowler once again for the 2 day of the play. Taking 3 wickets, while both Salahuddin and Hasan have taken 2 wickets each. Bangladesh will be looking to get the 2 wickets they need to get Australia out, unless they will be chasing a big score.

Cna't really say Clarke didn't play well as he did get the opening to a good stead with 80 opening stand and bagigng himself 33. Played well in my eyes.
