Ok, guys. Maybe an explanation why the light has been accepted.

Here is what somebody else posted, who watched the match:

Umpire Koertzen says that Australia can come to them and say they want to continue and the match will resume. But if they do that then they will take the light reading at that time and that will be the benchmark for the rest of the Australia innings and light will not be offered unless it gets worse than that. Mark Nicholas says there is a patch of light and Australia are probably waiting for that to come over. The light is better at one end and worse at the other at this time as shown by the light meter (one end the reading was 7.9 and the other 3)

The time loss of today will be catched during other days. Provided it doesn't rain again, I guess.

Im not defeiding the aussies decision but i can get that. Also they might have just been offered Tea early or something.

Light rain tomorrow but not enough to save Enland a draw. They need to win!

light rain..don't think so..its p!$$ing down all over England..Tomorrow is no different..

They WILL NOT catch up any tiem as it will be too dark. Its september and at 5:50pm today it was real gloomy..

Anyone who thinks play will go on past 6pm on any overcast england day in september is dreaming..

They will be lucky to get 40overs play in tomorrow, which, even if Australia score at 4rpo wil leave them 100 runs bwhind on sunday (with more rain possible). That would mean the'd ave to knock off the deficit( taking 30-35overs), get meaningful lead (another 30overs?), bowl England out, then knock off the runs..

smart money would be on the draw at the moment .

Could you please post the link where your getting this from because all im getting is light rain tomorrow....if any. And none on Sunday or monday. Australia have it all in their hands atm. If they can bat well eg all day tomorrow and up til inbetween lunch and tea on sunday they will be in a good position to knock England over. We have seen what Australia can do when pressure is put onto the England batting line up.

It did seem strange that the Aussie batsmen took the light when they did - walk out to the middle after tea, be offered the light, walk back in.
On the other hand, if they'd have lost 2 or 3 quick wickets facing Flintoff bowling at 90mph+ in bad light, they'd have been on the backfoot and had an even tougher task of winning the match, especially if a fair amount of play is lost tomorrow.

whilst it is true that Aus may have lost a couple of quick wickets, they need to get runs to win this match and you cant score runs sitting in the dressing room

Jonah makes sense actually (im suprised as you are :D)

I think this shows that Australia are confident they can do the job on the remaining 3 days, but we can still hope and pray for more rain :D

Well it will rain alot some time soon as it has been in the north more and more than it has been in the south, there is alot of electricity in the air at the moment and that almost always leads to rain lately.

Save England?

We are still right in this match, we'll bat better second.

Its either going to take a lot of rain or something extreme for Australia to muck this up. They should win.

you do know england are still 260 runs ahead? If Australia were to loose a few wickets in the morning (very possible in overcast conditions), then they'd be in trouble.

I know its an old addage, but "add 2 wickets to the total and its a whole new game".

At Australia's curent run rate it will take a good 70-80 overs to get up to Englands total.

As long as it doesn't rain a whole day out we will have a result. Aus need to bat the whole of today and if they can a bit of tommorow. Then chuck England in bowl them out and the Ashes is retained. Of course doing all that is easier said than done. :D

The openers need to continue on this partnership, then the other batters have to contribute. Gilly needs a quick fire 100 or 50. Then the key to it all the other bowlers must step up in particular McGrath and Lee.

sometimes" light rain" is worse, especially when the predicted wind speed is 5mph. This means that if it rain it won't "blow-over" in 30 min or an hour. If it starts raining, it will rain for a long time.

Whereas heavy/stormy rain can thrash down for 30 mins and clear-up in no time.

never under-estimate the good old English drizzle

Im not saying YET that England need the rain to save them. Im just saying its not gonna be around at the end they have to play to win. Picking collingwood was a mistake. Not because he got out cheaply but England no longer have as attacking bowleing. Their bowlers have to bowl longer spell and the batsman settle into a rhythm against the bowlers. With 5 they rotated regurlarly.

:upray no more rain :upray

Even you England fans should hope that.
