Australia in India 2013/14-Limited Overs

Cricinfo weren't wrong when saying it would be a high scoring game. Finch might be finally coming of age and good start for Maddinson. Just had no one to stop the flow of runs whereas India had 2 bowlers under 7 an over.

Because there has been enough talk lately about the how this tour is irrelevent. To an extent, I do agree, but again, can't fathom most of the past cricketers saying that it is useless. It does not halt the Ashes preparations in any way, just some cricketers wouldn't get a few weeks of the Shield. But...

A few VERY important weeks in shield cricket - that cannot be underplayed. AUS problem in the Ashes and in test cricket for the longest while has been its batting. Its fast bowlers are fine - it tested ENG's batsmen.

If they wan to regain the Ashes, the focus now should be red ball cricket.

...all of the members here in India are not vital to Australia's Ashes preparation.

Here I support my above statement.

Exaxtly how many of the Aussie cricketers who were in England have been selected in the series -

Shane Watson - He should have been rested :thumbs

Phil Hughes - His chances to regain back the test spot? Depends on George Bailey's performance

Michael Clarke - already home

Brad Haddin - needs to play some more International cricket, trust me, he isn't that effective

James Faulkner - Not even sure if he'll keep his Test spot

So, only 5 of them, out of which only Watson and, most probably Haddin, will make into the team in Australian summer.

Which means that 8-9 players representing in the ODI series are not in contention for an Ashes spot.

Now we have Voges, Ferguson and Bailey pushing for the Test team. Bailey doesn't have the best FC records, but has performed at the highest levels when it mattered the most, he is here to prove a point, and if you've seen him, he plays spin quite well too.
Voges and Ferguson, highly rated in the domestic, average in the International level, but thanks to the biggies of Australian cricket, they could never play regularly.

All of their regular Test bowlers back home too, with Johnson again pushing for squad.

So now, how exactly does it halt the Ashes preparation, what all analysts and past cricketers are suggesting?

Ok so lets say AUS had taken a decision to keep all potential Ashes players like the ones you correctly mentioned away from this India series, so that they can play shield cricket. In their places AUS a group of unknown youngsters would have been sent making it basically a AUS "A" team playing in this series - would you be satisfied with india facing a depleted AUS side on this tour?

Hopefully, Yuvi doesn't get spoiled by this innings in becoming over confident ending up struggling for the next few matches. It is highly important that Yuvi develops a matured temper to enhance the strength of our middle order adding experience to the side.

Ye it seems so, i was beginning to worry if he was ever going to translate his domestic ability onto the international stage. If Warner sorts himself out soon, a Warner/Finch opening partnership in ODI's/T20 could be devastating leading up the 2014 & 2015, T20/ODI world cups.

Good point made.
My answer is no, but I would love to exploit young batsman here in India while thinking to build up squad for the 2015 WC. Australia is a very good ODI team when they have Clarke with their other best bowlers. The problem is just like the Indian One day team, relatively young side, not many potential entrants and the only guy you would want to replace is Dhoni.

But giving Fawad Ahmed a chance in this series could have done his confidence world of good. And as I said before, this series might just land Bailey a ticket to the Ashes..

It is pretty much an 'A' side if you take out Watson though ;)

Can Ishant Sharma just be banned from playing for India or something? How on earth this guy keeps getting selected is beyond me, it seems like every time I watch him bowl these days he is regularly getting smashed out of the ground. The days of him bowling 150ks at Ponting are well and truly in the past now. Must do Indian fans heads in having to watch this guy bowl still. I'm assuming Yadav and Aaron are injured??

----------

Its also hard to take him seriously with that ridiculous haircut.

Sharma is another Sreesanth as a bowler who can be good in bits and pieces but is generally gets spanked by the batsman. My guess is it is because of his height and eventually the ability of get an extra bounce compared to the other Indian bowlers is what keeps him in the selectors' radar but it is high time Indian selectors think seriously about his career.

He never bowled at 150 Ks Ferg. It was his ability to move the ball away with an action that makes a batsman think the ball will jag back in that troubled Ponting and other batsman alike but that ability is long gone.

As far as his locks are concerned, this makes an interesting read.

Wow, that is totally and utterly bizarre. I know he wants to keep a promise and all, but it is seriously impacting how he performs in his job. Why can't he at least tie it up or something? I wonder how many Indian fans know about this, would be interesting to hear their take on it.

The link was meant to be humorous. Use your best judgment next time.

Ishant Sharma bowled very fast on the 2007/08 Australia tour. He was also bowling very fast when we went to Australia in 2011/12. He was consistently bowling in high 140's and occasionally going over 150's. Him and Umesh Yadav were bowling faster than James Pattinson, Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus. So he definitely can bowl at that speed but as all other Indian bowlers, he has dropped his pace to adjust his line and length which is very wayward most of the time.

Ishant's natural delivery is one coming back into the right handers. He never had a ball which swings away from Right handers. However, he learned and developed that delivery gradually. Still he rarely bowls that away swinging delivery to right handers.

Ishan't case is very interesting. Whatever interviews or articles I have seen/read about him, all suggests that he is a very hard working bowler. His natural length is short and he needs to learn how to bowl more fuller deliveries especially in tests. He might be working hard but the results are not showing that. On some day he is extremely good but than he just fades away and that is very disappointing to watch.

Can't disagree more to it. Mind you the video starts from Sharma's 3rd over or there about so he was not at all tired not to be bowling at his regular speed. As far the away swinger is concerned, you can check it for yourself and that was still early days for him

I always thought when the speed gun during that 2007/08 had Sharma bowling at 150 at times, it was an error. He was never that quick.

Similarly i think last year in a ODI series with England & AUS, Broad was clocked at 150 & i felt that same. Not that quick - but rather an gun error.

Again, I did not see any out swingers in that video. The one that goes past Ricky Ponting at 1:07 is a straight delivery in which Pointing was playing for an in swing because he was getting that huge movement. The delivery that Ponting got out was similar as well, it might have moved away a bit but that would have been because of the pitch. If you see the video, you can easily figure out that his natural movement is one coming back into the right hander not the away going delivery. In the video you have posted, he is bowling in 130's and 140's but I have seen that whole tour and he was bowling at those speeds more often than not. He even reached 150 mark in one of the IPL edition he played with Deccan Chargers. So he is definitely quick but he does compromises with his pace to adjust his line and length.

the quality is not the best but there are ver few videos from India's recent tour of Australia.
