Australia in India

Only Tendulkar has played so far, and he has had only one failure. Dont jump into conclusions at this point of time.

Which 'Patel'? Munaf or Parthiv?

Parthiv.
Munaf is higly injuiry prone.
yes,Parthiv's keeping has improved, but you would'nt want him as a keeper.
He's improved his batting too

I'm so sick of these overemotional "fans" that jump on the big 3 everytime they fail. Give them a break. Dravid just quit the captaincy because his batting was suffering so expect him to bounce back. Then there's Tendulkar. There's a very good chance that Tendulkar will still be in the 2011 World Cup. He's very close to scoring 50 centuries in ODIs before retiring, and he would've been much closer if it weren't for those string of 90's in England. Tendulkar has shown that he has it still in him by that series. He was determined and aggressive. And finally...Ganguly. Ganguly has been the most consistent player of India for probably a year now. I just dont understand why Gambhir was asked to open with Tendulkar when Ganguly and Tendulkar did such an excellent job opening in England.

Also, Zaheer's bowling has turned for the worse since the end of the test series in England. He barely got any wickets in the ODIs and even in the first game against Aussie, he was struggling. His later overs, he wasn't even running with full power up to the popping crease, was he injured?

Give Zaheer a break also...

The conditions in England and India differ to a large extent.
So,I would'nt be surprised if the pacers are not effective on home tracks.

Parthiv.

Yes, but do we have a place for Parthiv in the team just for his batting? I am sure we have many other specialist batsman around in India who are better than Parthiv. And with Dhoni and Karthik in the team, Parthiv just has all the doors closed on him.

I feel that Parthiv Patel is weak in the 50 over game and that any prospective selection should be in test matches and not ODIs. Regardless of which, I feel that Badrinath and Yuvraj should be ahead of him in terms of test match selection.

Back on topic, Harbhajan is fit for the 2nd ODI against Australia.

Since the topic of India's bowling has been brought up, I feel highly uninspired by India's bowling, its all a bit "meh" for me. I feel that Zaheer Khan and RP Singh are highly uninspiring in ODIs and that Powar and Harbhajan are in truth fighting for the second (or reserve) spinner role because I feel Chawla the far better choice in ODIs (not tests yet where I feel that either Powar or Harbhajan will be brilliant). Many countries see little of leg spinners and Chawla is one, and a good one at that. Against England, he showed a class about him in terms of his accuracy and the calmness he had whilst bowling to even someone like Kevin Pietersen. I really rate him and although I do not approve of him being pushed so early in his life, now that he is in the team, I think he should play when fit.

Zaheer Khan is uninspiring, as I said earlier but he is accurate enough to play in ODIs. I would prefer to see him pitch the ball up a bit more because at the length he bowls, batsman can leave the good balls and pull and cut all else. RP Singh I have never been sure of in ODIs; his List A record (89 wickets at 28.64, econ = 4.96), is hardly great. I only feel he succeeded in twenty20 because he had the short spells to bowl quickly and it seems that his natural run rate he concedes is 5-7 runs per over which is great in twenty20 but not in ODIs. He dishes up wide ones and short ones all too often and needs to mature more for ODIs.

I would personally love to see Ranadeb Bose in the team instead of RP Singh. Bose has a fine domestic List A record (89 wickets at 21.64. Econ = 4.47), and watching some footage of him bowling in a tour game, he seems RMF, so not rapid but he has great accuracy and a good cricket brain as far as when to bowl slightly fuller/shorter/straighter. Good record, in good form and at the age of 28, I feel he is currently in his prime.

Irfan Pathan, as you all know, rules! I would however, rather him bowl a tad with the new ball, at between 125-140kph, he is by no means slow and I feel that inswing is still a major weapon for him and it is key for him to bowl with the new ball, if only for 4 overs. He is so mature as a bowler for a 22 year old with top accuracy and a tinge of swing whilst the pace being good. I also highly rate Sreesanth, I have before criticised his poor record in ODIs but the pace he was bowling against Australia (135-147kph) showed that he is shaping up to be a fine agressive bowler; if he can get two or three wickets a match, no matter of the cost (within reason), he would have done his job.

Imo, Pathan and RP should open. Followed by Zaheer and Sreesanth. Spinner - Chawla. Pathan is wasted bowling cutters and other rubbish in the middle overs.

I would go for Zaheer and Irfan to open, followed by Sreesanth. I also agree somewhat with what Manee said about RP Singh. I saw his bowling in the first ODI, and it looked like he was back to his usual self with the Twenty20 being an aberration. I feel he succeeded in 20-20 because in that slam bang format, 5-7 runs per over is very good. For me, Zaheer and Irfan with Sreesanth would be my fast bowlers in an Indian XI. Can switch among Zaheer and Irfan but I wont switch Sreesanth (unless and until we get another good aggressive right handed fast bowler).

Its strange we are playing with 4 fast bowlers on Indian pitches.

I'd like to see us playing 7 batters, with Irfan at 8.
RP's gotta go. Theres too much competition and RP just didn't do it on Saturday. He seems crap when the conditions don't assist him. My line up for the Kochi match (If there's play).

Tendulkar
Uthappa
Ghambir
Yuvraj
Dravid
KKD
Dhoni*+
Irfan (2)
Zaheer(1)
Harbajan
Sreesanth(3)

Is Uthappa injured?

Personally, I think I would go with:

1. Sachin Tendulkar
2. Gautam Gambhir
3. Robin Uthappa
4. MS Dhoni(wk and capt.)
5. Rahul Dravid
6. Dinesh Karthik/Ganguly when fit
7. Irfan Pathan
8. Harbhajan Singh
9. Zaheer Khan
10. Ramesh Powar
11. Sreesanth

Baburao made a good point about playing two spinners in Indian conditions. Powar had a bad match, that does not erase his series in England where he did well (besides, Chawla is injured;)). The reason I am playing Uthappa and Dhoni high up is to give them the responsibility that I feel they will have post-Big Three. It is also for team balance, Uthappa is there to continue the attack after the openers and help dominate in the powerplays. Dhoni can help with this, as can he help to rebuild and grind out as he has done well in the past. Dravid is down at five (I would too have Ganguly at six too), to add experience lower down and help shepherd the batting the all rounders/bowlers and also to not make it too top heavy. Both Dravid and Ganguly are able hitters when needed too in the latter overs. While Ganguly is injured, I would probably have Karthik there but he needs to score a few fifties to stay in the ODI side methinks.

EDIT: Some team news:

Some changes in Team India

Kochi, Oct 1 (UNI) Harbhajan Singh may replace off-spinner Ramesh Powar while batsman Robin Uthappa of Karnataka will come in for injured Sourav Ganguly in the second ODI against between India and Australia to be played here tomorrow at the Jawarlal Nehru Stadium.

It's called taking the **** outta' someone for fun & pleasure.
It's adding salt to the wound.
We've been doing it for years.
You could question your integrity & intelligence for continously reacting aswell when the wise person would just ignore it because now you'll look stupid if not stupider if you get blown outta' the water just like English fans who scoffed at the idea of losing 5-0 in an Ashes' series.
McGrath predicted 5-0 in the Ashes series earlier this year after we had lost the Ashes in 2005 and people acted the same way towards him as you are to me now. What happened?

How that's any different to what Ponting or Symonds are doing?
They're stating simple facts and making you Indians think twice about your cricket.
The idea of reacting to make you look like you're trying to get on the front foot can easily make you stumble.

Allot of people seem to forgot Mitchell Johnson's 4-11 last year in a washed out match where Australia destroyed India in similar conditions & to note the fact Brett Lee was bowling 150kph again. India looked very timid Saturday Night aswell.

Well I'll just let you self destruct; the fact that you've to swear at me and must keep bringing up the exact mannerisms that I've showed links to insecure behaviour means you've lost the plot here. Your need to bring me (and your projection of me onto team India and the general stereotype of 'you indians') down to bring up yourself (or your projection onto your team,) is sad. I honestly hope you have a better day and can feel better about yourself.

Rain looks likely for the next match according to Cricinfo. I hope Sree gets his 5-for!

Excuse me, what is actually wrong with one person called YUVRAJ SINGH? Forgot or wantedly left out????

KKD

I will go in for Rohit in place of KKD. I know he's your favorite, but I feel Rohit is a much better batsman than KKD who cant keep very often because of Dhoni who will take up keeping more because he can have a better view of the field.

But the big question is will there be a match.

I wish I was a better batsman then KKD :p :)
Yeah, I was going to put in RS there, but, KKD's keeping abilities bought me over. I tried to be as fair as possible but Dinesh's keeping could help when Dhoni needs to help out a wayward Sreesanth or someone without running down all the time.

Also, If Uthappa is injured both rohit and kkd can play :)
