Australia tour of West Indies

Clarke is really material for the future. Jaques has a bit more potential than Katich so I'd doubt they'd drop him either. Maybe they should stand Symonds down if Katich was in red hot form, I mean the latters' left arm spin is quite useful.

Symmo's spin is more useful. And he is the better batsman.

Better than who?? Symonds got in this team because of his fielding, bowling and fan favouritism, not because he was a superior batsman than Katich/Hodge/Clarke/Jaques let alone comparing him to Hayden/Ponting/Hussey.

Symonds is the guy I would drop if Katich catches fire. For starters, Michael Clarke has bowled much more often and much more successfully than Symonds this past summer, telling me that Clarke is a more useful bowler in Ponting's eyes and Clarkey is only going to get better with experience. Symonds batting certainly has improved since he was first picked in the Test team, but I would still prefer an in form Katich in my batting lineup. And while his fielding would be missed, there's no way I'd pick a guy just because he is a good fielder.

Yeah, I think Symonds is the one that would be ousted, but there is no way in hell that the selectors would be so flippant unless they get steamrolled.

I still don't rate Symonds as a test batsman, so I'd be happy to see Katich replace him, he has much better consistency and a mentality much more suited to test cricket. I doubt that even a double century could allow Hodge to leapfrog him, it certainly didn't help the last time he got one (what a bitter Victorian I am).

Dare: I can go with your 11 simple because of the way things are, I will tolerate Smith because Gayle is not available, nor Chattergoon, Hinds instead of Morton, in any event they have about the same first class avg. and Hinds have a slightly better avg. than Mortan and have played 3 less test matches than Morton and Powell because he is more penetrative than Sammy, he should know Sabina and he has the edge in experience. Honestly the batting lineup is weak, with or without Sammy, so I would go for the bowling. Am happy to have Jaggs in there and with no Gayle, Hinds will do some bowling. So it is not the best we could have put out but it is what we have at this time.

Jamaica vs Australia - Tour Match
Australia 198/3 (2:00PM) Caribbean Time

Jamaica 297
Katich 82* Hodge 10*
Jaques 48; Ponting 17 ; Hussey 19
Wickets: McNally 1; Miller 1, Wallace 1

Ponting is desperately out of form. Somehow he needs to grit it out and find a big innings to spark himself again.

Until then, Australia are playing with one batsman short.

Katich in the runs again geez hes on fire. It's going to be way too hard to leave him out in the 2nd Test onwards with this Bradman like form. Symonds would have to make way especially if he fails. Jaques is our future opener and Clarke the future captain so we don't want to be dropping either.
