Australia tour of West Indies

Katich is really in form, contrary to Ponting. Ponting was actually the Man of the Series previously when Australia toured West Indies. I've got a feeling this will be a clean sweep for Australia.

Ponting just needs that one big knock, probably should have a talk with Hayden who was in a similar bad patch. Haddin proving his worth already, looks like he'll add that consistency that we have been missing from Gilly lately.

I really hate to say it but if Katich shines maybe Hayden will get the axe.
the selectors always seem to have the finger on the button with Hayden.
Hayden is my fave but if hes out of form, the 37 year old could say goodbye

No way in this planet would he get the axe. He's hit 3 tons in his last 3 innings.

Ponting has already scored one Test and 3 ODI centuries in the midst of this form slump. He's a hard player to gauge. He looked quite indifferent against an innocuous Sri Lanka, but averaged 70 for the short series. Against NZ in the CHT he busted out two very sharp centuries and it looked like he was well on track for a big summer. Against India he seemed to get out cheaply every innings, but came away averaging almost 40, so not really a shocker by a lesser player's standards. Finally in the CBS, he really did struggle for starts and 11 was his 3rd highest score in 10 innings. Nevertheless, he did convert one of those two starts into a match winning century.

There aren't too many batsmen who can fire while still struggling to get out of a rut, but it's safe to say Ponting getting scores doesn't mean he's in form.

You might say there are different kinds of bad form for batsmen, that there is a difference between a new batsman's building form and the set batsman's conversion form. Ponting is definitely still functioning when he gets a start.

I'm glad to see Katich there instead of Hodge or D. Hussey. Katich's form at 1st drop has just been immense. Hopefully he can show that form at 5.

Benn over Jaggs???
Benn performed below average against SL what makes you think he will do better against Australia. Jaggernauth has to make his debut against Australia in the 1st test.

as far as I know he should be there already, I think that he was due leave after Mumbai vs Kolkata.

Bravo just played today 18/05/08 against Deccan Charges, match # 42, so he is still in India and yet to be here in the Caribbean. Good luck Mr. Bravo. And edgefan007, as for Ben against Aus. 1st test, no way in hell.

looks like Katich is back in the aussie team again... i think for West Indies they should give carlton baugh another chance because dinesh ramdin never performed well....

Baugh did good against the Aussies in the last match, but in my opinion he is the #4 or #5 WK in the Caribbean. Ramdin, Browne, William Perkins(selectors seem to be picking the young guys) and than Baugh would come but you never know.

any good performance by a WK is a good thing for Ramdin because they keep pushing him for his spot. If Ramdin can get a good average with the bat against the best side in the world than his spot would be sealed for a long time.

Ramdin has a good record against Australia.

angryangy added 5 Minutes and 33 Seconds later...

Likes the pacemen on good batting strips, I think. Hasn't played too much at home in the Caribbean, I notice. Good batting conditions are known to lurk there, so he might hit some good form.

Katich sure is a handy part time bowling option. More of that and Symonds could find himself under pressure.
