Australia tour of West Indies

I took a look a the tour scoreboard and noticed Katich was opening and did it very well. He is now confirmed to take Hayden spot with Hodge taking over from Clarke. Last time I saw Hodge has a test average of 58 so not bad replacement when you consider that :)

I think that the double he got against the Proteas would be a major reason for the average of 58.
Has he done anything flash apart from that. The last time I saw him play, he struggled n the ODIs in India.

As we all know, scoring in ODIs against India is much more important than scoring in Tests against South Africa. :p

Sorry, I get your point, but it comes across like that. He has won a few ODIs, including the orchestration of a record MCG chase and his Test career is less than a half dozen games long, so there's no reason to expect more than one century. The general feeling in Australia is that he's not the second and possibly not the third best batsman outside the main team, not that that is such a bad thing, mind you.

Pretty much the point that non supports of Hodge have used. He was exposed badly in NZ during the ODI series where he kept getting out to balls outside of off stump.

I have never agreed with Brad hodge in the Australian 11. The only reason he has a 200 in test cricket is that Australia gave up the win for him to get it. Also, if you look at his stats, he only has 1*100 and 1*50 in 9 innings. I believe there are more players out there who are better suited i.e a second allrounder (Hopes, Noffke, Casson).

With the form of Shaun Marsh, Luke Pomersbach, and even Shane Watson in the IPL at the moment, there has to be some sort of change brought in sooner or later.

Its not just about the runs he got in India (rather the lack of it) but it was the manner in which he batted which made me bring that point up.
Katich and David Hussey seem far better options to me.
I`d in fact go as far to open with Mike Hussey and accomodate Katich in the middle order to give it a solid look.

One of the reasons why Australian batting struggled against India was because of Ponting not being prolific. An in-form Ponting would solve of half of your problems.

I felt that Hussey was batting far too low sometimes, especially in the ODIs against India.
Symmo will struggle in this series if the West Indian bowlers get their in coming delivery right.

Looking forward to some quality test match cricket after all the T20 stuff in the past month or so.

Clarke - 6 hundreds, 50 innings
Symonds - 2 hundreds, 19 innings

I'm sorry, but the argument is as watertight as suggesting that we should have opened with Noffke because he was in good form.

Oh please, when picking a test team the last thing you look at is somebody's Twenty20 performances. These guys are a long shot at getting into the test team anytime soon, unless there is a massive hit of injuries.

I like having Hussey where he is in the ODI side, we need that rescue/finisher as they are extremely hard to find but when you get one they are real gems. Test he is in the perfect position, Katich showed in the tour match he could continue his form as opener so may as well keep him going with his purple patch.
