Australia vs England ODI Series - 7 matches - Sep 4 to Sep 20

Thats why it was pointless playing the series now especially a 7 match one. If it was before the Ashes then this series would have been used for picking the Champions trophy squad. Instead its used as a long warmup which isn't even in the country where the CT is being held and you can't change your CT squad.

We have a real problem with our one day side though at the moment, we are trying something weird and it's not working. Players are batting out of position and we are trying to be something we're not. The team I would go with would look something like this:

Strauss
Trott
Morgan
Bopara
Colly
Mascha
Prior
Broad
Swann
Rashid
Sidebottom

But what I have just realised is that Colly has been rested? That's good because I didn't really want him in my team, I just had to put him in because there is no one else! Going through my team I have picked. Straussy is the gun player of the series, he has stood out throughout the Test and now in the ODI's. He is the only player who really looks good and looks like being able to hold the innings together. Trott has to come in as the rest of the team is fail and he like Strauss is a rock. Morgan has to play at 3, you can't bring him in at 6/7 as he just isn't the lower order hitter that England think he is. This is the problem the ODI side have, players are batting in the wrong places. I just read in the cricinfo article this from stuey Broad
"We've been told our roles and we know our game plans, we're just not executing them. There's nothing really that the management or coaching staff can do - it's up to the players to take responsibility and perform."
So they know what they have to do but they have been given the wrong jobs!
I have put Bopara in because we don't really have anyone else to put in, and he like Bell will probably score a nice 30 for us. Then there is the bowlers, not doing anything wrong, but not doing anything right and like the English usually do, settling for Medicority. we're not taking the wickets that are allowing us to pull the wins out of nowhere. We should really go in with two spinners considering Australia's history with spin, this not only means if they struggle its about 20 overs of them going at 3-4 an over, but if 1 of the spinners fails then at least we have a back up spinner. Like we did in the 4th ODI, Rashid failed and we had no back up apart from Shah. :doh

Overall, our One Day side needs a real shake up! This vote of no confidence to the ECB board is really showing them up!

The only thing I'd say is that test ability doesn't necessarily count for much in ODIs, I don't think Michael Bevan ever played a test, for example, but in this case he should be in.

The other thing is that they have to pick from their Champion's Trophy squad and try and get the best team for that, which could explain why he's not getting a chance now.

His domestic record is second to none.

Second to Pietersen ;) KP averages 44 in List A cricket, and 46 in ODi's, with Trott averaging 42. Trott should definitely be in this side though, he's a superb One Day cricketer, and proved at The Oval that he's got the technique to perform at International level. How he can't get a game, but Masceranhas, Bresnan, Onions, Morgan and Denly do is beyond me.

It is just genuinely perplexing, isn't it? I know many players can be 50/50 on whether people want them in or not, but Trott is in great form and is probably the 3rd best batsman in the country!

They really need to do something to shake it up, look at the form charts. Trott's One Day record this year isn't amazing.

He's only just started getting hyped by the Sky team though. It'll be a good year before Trott's in the ODi side. I expect to see Trego, Lumb and Cook called into the ODi side before Trott's finally picked. Trott just needs to pay Lloyd and Hussain a few quid to give him ridiculous hype and then he'll be straight in the side.

1 more thing. Graham Onions in the ODi squad is a joke. He barely gets a game for Durham. Even Saj Mahmood would be a better option than bloody Onions. Napes should definitely be in the side ahead of him as well. Better OD bowler and handy with the bat.

I hate our selectors.

At least your selectors don't go of and play becah cricket during the FC season right before the naming of the national squad.

Bit harsh on Trego there, he's one of the best bowlers in Pro 40 this year and he's decent with the bat too.

Amen! This summer has profoundly shown the sheer direness of our selectors and the poor views of the sky commentators. Admittedly cricket must be one of the hardest sports to commentate on as it happens day in day out and especially when your commentating on Test Matches. But the sky team just seem to have such poor knowledge of the surrounding cricket. I think it is through the lack of cricket that we actually recieve in the UK. The people in SA and India actually get nearly every cricket played. But us in the UK only get the cricket of SA, Aus and Eng. That said I think alot of our domestic cricket is broadcast in India and also in Australia yet we get none of there domestic cricket. Afraid to say it but we don't even get the IPL. If the Sky team watched more cricket outside of England then maybe they would be better commentators and not every young batsmen that scored a 50 would be an 'exciting prospect'

As for the selectors.. I am lost for words!
