Australian Tour of India, October 2010/11

Well that was a kick up the arse. Seems Ponting needs to work on his captaincy, was pretty dire tbf - lock him up in a room with Steve Waugh until the ashes start. Lock North and Hauritz in another room and throw the keys away.

Oh but North made a magnificent 100 ;)

He's going to be around for a long time, no matter how many 200s Khawaja makes

Murli Vijay, feel sorry for you as when Gambhir will be back you will be out but I am assured that Future is in safe hands seeing Gambhir can bat at no 3.

Pujara absolute brilliant innings. 72 of 89 is really awesome on 5th day track. Shows how much Aussie's missed Dough Bollinger.

Raina awesome fielding through out and one crucial 78 runs I suppose in 1st Innings of 1st Test.

Yes, Vijay and Gambhir can swap slots within the batting order if all three of Gambhir, Sehwag and Vijay have to play. Its always good to have a backup opener within the XI itself.

I doubt if Dougie would have made a big difference. Yes, our batsmen would have been made to work a little harder for their runs, but even if Dougie was there, Pujara might have scored those runs.

Raina scored 86 in that first test. His fielding though makes a difference. Raina, Vijay, Pujara all field very well and lift India's standards in test cricket. Vijay is better than Gambhir in close-in positions. Good fielding will help in tests

Yuvi said youngster Raina, Kohli and Rohit are cocky and don't listen. He never said that he did not gave them respect. Even Symonds has said that he thinks Rohit Sharma needs a stick (they were team mates in DC).

To be honest, cockiness may not be the worst trait(not listening is obviously a bad trait however). However, Rohit Sharma just seems to be very lazy. In everything he does. Compare that to someone like Pujara who is such a hard worker, or at least that's what many people familiar with domestic cricket have said during interviews. He was also highly successful on India A's tour of England(as were Rahane, Mukund and Saha). Kohli has at least had a solid start to his ODI career, and Raina has started well in Test matches as well(but still has to be tested overseas). Raina getting into the Test team before guys like Pujara and Rahane can definitely be questioned though, but he's taken his chances, and let's see if he can succeed abroad. Rahane will get his chance sooner or later too, his record is just way too good.

Pujara was running very well though - that was good to see. Lately, in domestic cricket, he's been very careful with his running between wickets after that injury that kept him out for 6 months around a year ago.

I honestly believe India was/is blessed with seniors the likes of VVS, Kumble, Sachin and Dravid, who are all finest gentlemen in and off field.
It actually feels like this whole team gels well, newcomers are welcomed without any senior-junior politics.

For good of Indian cricket I hope and pray the attitude of these seniors rubs off on established youngsters likes of Raina/Gambhir and they take up the mantle of setting the current high standards for our future prospects unlike Yuvraj who himself admitted that he missed the opportunity of getting that respect of younger guys.

Well said mate. I am admittedly an outsider looking in, but some of the younger players seem to just be angry guys on the field who could use some manners. The classy way these older players handle themselves shows that you can play hard and succeed without the bravado and over the top aggression.

Also, my hearty congratulations India. Well played and it must be particularly heartening to have guys like Vijay, Pujara, Ojha and even Raina at times stepping up and playing great roles in the victories. I can't help but think though, no Tendulkar = no win for India. Take him out of the series and I think Australia takes it, so in that way I think the 2-0 loss is a bit unfair to the Aussies.

Yes, congrats to India, although it was a close series, You were the better team. Australia, however can take some positives out of this series. Really good to see Ponting get some runs, it was a concern he might have been on the slide in the last year, but at least he has some form coming into the Aussie summer. Watson and Bollinger were also good performers, and young Peter George, who will most likley not play in the first Ashes test at Brisbane, its a good sign that Aussies still have some depth in the pace bowling department.

I think Zaheer and Tendulkar have been the difference between the two sides. Other than that, the series could have gone either way.

Zak amazes me with his ability to get wickets at the right time, even in these dead Indian wickets. A quality which reminds me of Flintoff. And like Flintoff, he averages in the early 30s but only those who have seen him bowl on lifeless Indian tracks would know his skill and worth. For two successive series, Australia have been out-reverse swung by Indian seamers and hence lost the series. It happened in 2008, it happened again this time.

Zak is a very intelligent bowler. He recognises batsmen weakness and exploits it to the fullest. I loved how he kept getting Graeme Smith with in-cutters.
I always believed he is a better 1st change bowler than a new ball bowler. :( never quite could get over his 1st over in 2003 World Cup Final :crying

^^ Don't forget he actually got that bowling average down from mid 40's to early 30's which is commendable when he had no other seamer supporting him.

In the tests, we will keep oscillating between Ishant and Sreesanth who can partner Zaheer. In conditions like SA, all three should play which is an exciting prospect because both Ishant and Sree promise a lot, especially in helpful bowling conditions. In tandem in such conditions, these three can create havoc.

Sreeshant has been a disappointment so far. Promises so much but is yet to deliver consistently.
Agarkar, whom I despised, did much better than Sree in his playing days.
Sree is still young though and I want him to come good and become a world class bowler.

Future Indian line up after 2 years:

Sehwag
Gambhir
Vijay
Kohli
Pujara
Rohit Sharma (if he gets slim and mind is not messed up)
MSD
Bhajji (He will still be around)
Ojha
Ishant
Zaheer
