Australia's Tour of India - 7 ODI's

I am not saying Badri's career is over because of his innings. Its because the selectors have lost faith in him for 'I dont know' what reason. As far as Nayar goes, Dhoni does not seem to be having faith in Nayar's bowling ability. He very rarely gives Nayar a chance to bowl (at the seaming Wanderers, he gave a chance to Nayar whereas in Centurion he didnt give Nayar a chance inspite of having him).

It will be a very interesting series. This time, the roles are reversed. In 2007, India won the T20 World Cup and came into that 7-ODI series as 'T20 Champions'. Australia lost the semis when they were expected to win another tournament. This time, India were expected to be there for the final and they lost out in the group stages. Australia have won the tournament and come as the champions. India would definitely want to bring Australia down after the trophy win and would also want to prove that their ranking in ODI's is not a fluke. I think the final result would be 3-3 all (some game could be washed out) or 4-3 in India's favor.

Yuvi wont play 4-5 matches. Count him out. Sachin will also break down after 3-4 games.

Of course yeah. There is no way that Sachin is playing all 7 games at a trot. Thats next to impossible. It would be a big ask even if he plays 5 games in a row. He will play 4 games. 'Break down' is not a good word to use. Sachin is 36 and he has played the game for 20 years now. Still he is very much a vital part of our team in tests and ODI's. He will pick and chose his games and should be allowed to. I think Dravid and Sachin will swap roles depending on Sachin's fitness and the number of games he plays. I would say 'dont play Dravid when Sachin plays, and vice versa'. Since Sehwag would be back, it wont hurt us not to play both together.

ODIs are a good way to make your debut and hes done well so far. He will also get some experience in India against top quality batters during the Champions league.

Missing Haddin and Pup on typical sub continental pitch is simply a disaster :facepalm Someone please get back Roy :crying

i think this move should be appreciated ... last time they decided to dubue spinner against india , ie cameron white... we know what happened to his spinning career...

Hopefully holland's fate will not be like that.... but only thing is ive never seen a left arm spinner succeed with aus!! :)

Rookie Holland spins into one-day squad | Cricket News | India v Australia 2009/10 | Cricinfo.com

Very stupid imo, just throwing him in the deep ends not doin' him any good.

He might not even play a game. Hauritz will be the first choice spinner and unless we play two spinners or Hauritz gets injured I wouldn't see Holland play as the lone spinner.

Good move though if he is over their for the experience of being around the squad.

Shouldn't you be going for India, anyway?

Oh no, not this again! :doh

even marsh is now in the squad... how is his form ? can he handle india and who is he gonna replace?

Holland is already in India for the Champions League, so he'll end up training and possibly playing in India with top class players for more than a month. The combination turns into an extremely valuable opportunity.

I think it's a positive selection and it also signifies how Hauritz has made spin important to the team again; it's been a while since Australia would have included two specialist spinners for limited overs cricket. I believe the last time two were picked in an ODI was April 2006, against Bangladesh.

Although a rookie at first class level, Holland is perhaps not as raw as it might seem, having played for Australia A and with the AIS scholarship team in recent years. He is also a former Australia u-19 and but for a shoulder injury a couple of seasons ago, he might have progressed even faster in his career. He is a well built 6 ft tall lad, somewhat in the Warne mould and one of the highlights of his game is a natural ability to vary his stock delivery.

Holland showed against Delhi he has good control and can turn it, that's all you can ask for of any spinner. He should get a game if the series is won with games remaining or if the seamers aren't proving effective he will come in. All it will take is one seamer breaking down for us to look at 2 spinners with Hopes and Watson more than capable of providing the seam up option.

We're sending 7 bowlers over, 5 pace (Lee, Mitch, Siddle, Hilfy, Bollinger) and 2 spin (Hauritz, Holland). So there are gonna be a LOT of inactive bowlers sitting around... We're going to play 4 at MOST.

As usual for these tours I'd hope we rotate liberally, as these meaningless tournaments are a GREAT place to blood your players and give them experience without any consequences. No one is gonna care about this result in a few months (unless it's like the England series where one team is totally dominant). So give all the bowlers at least 2-3 games with the better guys getting 4-5.

Marsh getting a go is interesting. First point of interest, he's ahead of Warner in the pecking order (correctly IMHO). Second, he's an opener and it will be interesting to see where Watson or Paine would bat with Marsh in the side. Presumably Watson would be the man to drop down first as he can bat anywhere in the list. So your top 7 might be:
Marsh
Paine
Ponting
Watson
White
Hussey
Hopes

Hopefully White remains at either 4 or 5. He bats well with the extra responsibility. Watson could even play down at #6 if they wanted to raise Hussey to 4 or 5. But I think Watson is just as likely to make a big score as Hussey, and Hussey has proven himself to be a finisher so I'd be happy with Hussey at #6. We don't want to get too reliant on Hussey as he's creeping up in age now.

I wouldn't mind leaving Watson where he is since he was just finding form again. But Watson at 4 could work well since he wouldn't be as exposed against the moving ball and he can come in against the spinners. This is all assuming though that Voges doesn't come straight in for Ferguson. That would probably be the better option giving us another big hitter in the lower order, an excellent fielder and another spin option if needed. Not to mention the fact he was next in line.
