Bangladesh in Australia Aug-Sept 2008

Moises Henriques has been added to the Australian squad in Darwin. Although a minor player at domestic cricket, he is a well known pace bowling all-rounder. As an Australian under-19s, he scored 377 runs at 31.41 and took 35 wickets at 15.08, competing in two u-19 World Cups and captaining the side to a semi-final in 05/06. More recently, he took part in the Emerging Players Tournament, scoring 199 runs at 49.75 and taking 3 wickets at 25.66 for the AIS Centre of Excellence team before being hamstrung.

Fit again, went with the AIS team to Darwin and in 4 high scoring encounters with the Bangladeshis, scored 183 runs at 91.5 and took 4 wickets at 34.75. He capped off his AIS scholarship with a practice game against the Australian squad. He obviously impressed someone in Darwin enough to ask him to hang around, because there were some good performances from this year's Centre of Excellence intake. Although not expected to play, he will benefit from a week with the national team and it leaves him in good stead for a season where it is hoped he will be able to establish himself in a youthful NSW team.

Good to see him getting a chance in the side, he will enjoy his time trashing the bangles.

Good to see Henriques getting some experience with the National side. As expected he won't see any game time unless it's an exceptional circumstance. Sounds like Watson should be fit for the match on Tuesday so that's good as Hopes didn't look comfortable at the top.

Hopes is really struggling for effect, especially in this series where they don't even need him for containment bowling, which tends to be his key role. I can quite easily entertain the idea of one of those AIS guys replacing him.

hhheeeennnrrriiiqqquuueeesss!!!!!!!!!

I knew he would be in the aussie squad one day but this is earlier then I though. Hes a maturing allrounder and has a lot of speed. His batting needs to be worked on though.

Yea quite a few that I wouldn't mind from there. Of course wouldn't be fair to the guys selected for the A team to be over looked. Although certainly wouldn't complain about Henriques replacing Hopes.

You guys seem happy he's in the side but with the lack of first class experience under his belt I wouldn't select him. He seems to have ability though since he had a great u19 campaign a couple of years ago.

Well he has played Bangladesh already with the AIS so wouldn't be too much of a step up to play for Aus against them. Obviously he won't be selected for the bigger teams but for Bangladesh it could be worth a shot.

You could argue that you have to give Bangladesh the same respect as any other team. If he does have the ability to play at international level then fine, but if he isn't (and his lack of experience at first class level shows that) then I wouldn't have looked at him. I would replace Symonds personally with Marcus North since he's fine middle order batsman who's made a few runs for Gloucestershire this season and can bowl a few overs of spin, so its a like for like replacement.

The reason he has been picked was because Australia A is over in India. Our selectors clearly aren't going to play Henriques or they would have rushed one of the members from the A side over. All I was getting at is I wouldn't mind seeing him play now that hes in the squad.

They're not expecting to play him, but if he does have to play, well, it can't hurt. First Class experience is getting to be a bit of a grey area, because 2008 in Australia has been stacked with minor cricket events against first class players. Like I was saying earlier, it's less out of the blue than if you just check his record in Cricinfo and go "who", even if he has been picked as a specialist 12th man.

Is Roy a dickhead or what? I mean who misses a team meeting and training just to go fishing? What a cock.

And well done to Michael Clarke on handleing this situation as captain, considering Symonds is one of his best mates and all...

Pup did well but he loves his fishing so sending him home was right but i expect Roy to be back in India

Symonds mulls quitting international cricket

MELBOURNE: Disillusioned Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds is mulling quitting international cricket after he was sent home by the Cricket Australia for going on a 'fishing trip' instead of attending a compulsory team meeting last week.

"I have been asked to think about what is important to me and I will take this time to do that," Symonds was quoted as saying by the Courier Mail on Monday.

"I would ask that during this time, people respect my privacy and that of my friends and family," he said."I would like to say thanks for the many messages of support I have received over the past day or so," he added.

Australia cannot assume Andrew Symonds will take part in their Test tour of India in October and are planning for potentially being without the allrounder, according to the coach Tim Nielsen. Symonds is pondering his future after being sent home from the Bangladesh series in Darwin because he missed a team meeting to go fishing.

It would be sad to see such facinating cricketer quiting International Cricket.

If Symonds quits over this incident, quite frankly he's a tool. It's obvious that he did not take Bangladesh seriously enough to live up to his team commitments, and decided to take a "day off" instead.
