Legendary Indian spinner Bishan Bedi, who last month joined the chorus of calls for Muttiah Muralidaran to be tested for checking in match conditions, has accused fellow Indian Harbhajan Singh of also chucking it, saying he is just as bad as Murali, and that chucking is worse than match fixing, in an exclusive with Australian Fairfax Newspapers:

The Age & Sydney Morning Herald said:
LEGENDARY Indian spinner Bishen Bedi has branded countryman Harbhajan Singh a chucker and blasted the International Cricket Council for ignoring what he believes is a greater blight on cricket than the match-fixing scandal.

Bedi previously has been so outspoken about Muthiah Muralidaran's action that the Sri Lankan has threatened a multimillion-dollar lawsuit. But now Bedi has included Harbhajan Singh on his hit-list.

"He (Harbhajan) is not any different," Bedi told The Sunday Age yesterday. "The ICC is turning a blind eye to both of them. They are blind to this monstrous problem and it is unfair and undesirable.

"It is not something to be ignored. A lot of people have questioned Harbhajan's action and they are right to. He has the same problem as Murali," the former Indian captain and coach said.

"This is cricket's greatest tragedy. Match-fixing was disgraceful but no one knew about it, so nothing could be done. Throwing is being allowed to happen in front of 30,000 and 40,000 people," said Bedi, who took 266 wickets in 67 Tests.

Very interesting read, I must admit I have never heard any scrutiny over Harbhajan's action so I was surprised to read it. I've said before that I believe that Muralidaran's action should be tested under match conditions, if he has nothing to hide he should do it to put speculation to rest. Not so sure about Hardbhajan though, if Bedi is the only one that is suspecting him to be a chucker.

Interested to hear thoughts.

I'm surprised there isn't more said about Kyle Mills and S Sreesanth, both of whom have quite dodgy actions.

Harbhajan was also reported for a dodgy action before, but was cleared because his action was within the earlier limit that existed with the ICC (not the recently updated limit to accomodate people like Akthar, Murali).

Bhajji's doosra sometimes is dodgy, but he is far better than the other two (Akthar, Murali).

I've met Bedi. He is suspicious about everyone. He even called me a chucker though I'm a wicket keeper.

Yeah, I think Harbhajan's action was reported, but it was proved that it was within the rules.

bedi is pitiful man !! i've never heard any praises from him ! :mad
its best to ignore him !!

why do they still let Shaoib Akhtar bowl i mean he doesn't bowl he chucks.

You have been scientifically proven wrong, as Shoaib Akhtar's bowling action falls within the legal criteria set by the ICC.

Yeah, I think Harbhajan's action was reported, but it was proved that it was within the rules.

Well after you told me on msn that people in India run up stop at the crease then just throw the ball towards the tutay, I'm inclined to believe he has every right of accusing people as chuckers.

:p

Oh yeah I heard Brett Lee chucks it too, so did McGrath, Warne the list goes on....

Do not read much into this. BEDI has habit of saying these things. Most of people in India don't even listen to what he has to say.

might be off topic but it wouldnt be easy to test Murli in match conditions right? Plus wouldnt it get into Murlis way or bother him while he is bowling and such? No idea how they would pull that off.

Harbhajan was called for throwing and he got cleared so he doesnt chuck in my mind.

I was joking.

Anyway how comes why not Sarwan what was the old rule?

I think the old limit was 5 degrees for fast bowlers and spinners alike, whereas now I think it's 10 degrees for fast bowlers and 15 degrees for spinners. As I said, under the old rules, Ramnaresh Sarwan was the only person that was deemed to bowl legally.

Under the old rule, every bowler bar Ramnaresh Sarwan were 'chuckers'.

Untrue. The old rules allowed between 5-10 degrees bending depending on your type of bowling. Quite a few notable bowlers broke this rule but certainly not everyone bar Sarwan.

I believe you are referring to the tests at the ICC Champions Trophy 2004 where only Sarwan did not have straightening of his arm.

I'm surprised there isn't more said about Kyle Mills and S Sreesanth, both of whom have quite dodgy actions.

The former is a blatent chucker but I believe that it is all wrist with Sreesanth.

Being tested you need to be hooked up to all those computers, I can't see how you could test under match conditions. Not that I think it matters anyway, it's only the bitter and uninformed who want him tested under match conditions.

Bedi has a habit of talking utter tripe.
