Live Fox Sports Studio ? Break In Play

Brendan Julian:
The West Indies have the breakthrough in Kuala Lumpur. Junior it?s cost them a few runs since Sarwan missed that run out in the second over

Mark Waugh:
Yes BJ the West Indies will be dirty that they didn?t have him earlier but the job has been done by Morton.

BJ:
Im not sure what the reasoning behind giving the ball to Runako Morton was but it has payed off for the skipper Brian Lara hasn?t it.

MW:
I wouldn?t have gone with him at such an early stage with the fielding restrictions still in place but I guess you can?t argue with results.

BJ:
The Australians are now 200 runs away from taking out the first match. It?s still early days but what do you see from here on in Junior?

MW:
I know your going to say it?s my Australia bias but the boys in green and gold should win this one. The only worries for me were going to be an early wicket but now that they have got past that they should get over the line in this one.

BJ:
Fidel Edwards copped some chop in those 4 overs he bowled before being taken off Junior. Maybe this pitch isn?t playing as bad as we thought.

MW:
It?s a weird one. It has been a very two-paced kind of wicket and I don?t think the West Indies really got a read on it and how it played which is what the Australians did from the get go here.

BJ:
Ok well it?s time to rejoin play with the Australian skipper Ricky Ponting making his way out to the middle. The West Indies will need to get him early if they are to have a chance in this one before Australia run away with it.

The arrival of Ricky Ponting was a welcome one for the West Indies as it meant that they have the much anticipated breakthrough however it is crucial that they continue to have pick up wickets before Australia can get the ball rolling in this run chase. The wicket slowed the Australian run rate considerably at first which makes sense as the man that was doing the attacking was back in the shed however the Australians managed to get the score to a par score of 1/72 after 15 overs meaning they are 186 runs away from victory which works out to be 5.31 an over.

The West Indies continued to keep it tight in the next few overs as the Hayden and Ponting partnership went to 25 with the team score at 1/83 when the umpires decided that it was time for a drinks break. Tino Best has been the pick of the West Indies bowlers so far going for just 21 in his 6 overs to date. The medium pace of Dwayne Bravo is yet to make an appearance, as is the slow off spin of tall opening batsmen Chris Gayle.

Live Fox Sports Studio ? Gatorade Drinks Break

Brendan Julian:
We?ll take a break from play like the players are as the umpires take drinks. Junior the Australians are moving along nicely despite the run rate slipping a little bit.

Mark Waugh:
Australia are going very well. The slow run rate wont be a problem if they keep wickets in hand. They have the players to chase this total down so the only way I can see the West Indies winning this match is gy bowling the Australians out.

BJ:
Do you think they have the attack to do that judging by what we have seen in these first 18 overs?

MW:
Not from what we have seen no. Bravo is still to bowl as is Gayle but the man that is going to have to do it in my books is Tino Best. He showed discipline in his opening spell and challenged the batsmen for no reward.

BJ:
What do you make of Mathew Hayden?s comeback to one day cricket in his innings so far?

MW:
He?s showed definite signs of rust and is not scoring as quickly as he normally would. Hopefully he can settle in after having a drink and score some good runs to get back in the one-day side but I doubt the selectors will be keen to pick him in future series as they look to the future for one day players.

BJ:
There?s not much more to say from us so let?s get back to the action in Kuala Lumpur as the Australians get back on task after a refreshing drinks break.

Hayden and Ponting picked up where they left off before the drinks break and that was batting conservatively and just looking for the ones and twos. Gayle and Bravo were introduced into the attack immediately after the break as the West Indies skipper obviously was keen to make a breakthrough. A few solid shots through the field were followed by a massive six from Hayden who opted to hit over the mid wicket fence clearing the crowd in the process. This brought the score to 1/94 at the 20 over mark and the required run rate out to 5.47.

The Australian 100 came up with a Ricky Ponting drive backward of point for a single to the applause of the Australian fans inside the ground. The score became a modest 1/106 from 22 with the required run rate at 5.43 from the 152 runs the Australians need to win. The Australians have been patient today for the most part and only looked to go over the top as a last resort when the run rate starts to lower but when they have gone aerial it has come off.

It had been a slowly paced knock from Matthew Hayden and he finally slipped up on 33 attempting one of his favourite shots, the sweep. Tino Best again had the job of making the catch off the bowling of tall off spinner Chris Gayle and he made no mistake. The comfortable catch taken at hip height means that the Australians are now reduced to 2 wickets down after 22.2 overs of play.

The match is still finely balanced as the West Indies pick up number two but the Australians wont be to upset about their start. 151 runs to get now for Australia who really need a batsmen to settle in and score at a run a ball to get them through this middle over stage. Damien Martyn is the new man in.

Australia 2/107

Required Run Rate ? 5.39

Brendan Julian:
Back in the Fox Sports Studio as a result of the 2nd wicket falling in Kuala Lumpur. Junior that wicket will help the West Indies as Gayle picks up the wicket of Hayden for 33.

Mark Waugh:
Yes that?s a big wicket for the West Indies with the run rate required over 5 an over. Matthew Hayden never looked settled here in his one-day return despite that massive six over mid wicket and he?s pretty much gotten himself out instead of Gayle getting him out with good bowling.

BJ:
Hayden really did have the whole leg side to place that shot and he hit it straight to Best who by the way has his second catch already.

MW:
It looks like Best is in the hotspot at the moment doesn?t it? Matty Hayden is one of the best sweepers in the world and he loves playing it to the spinners to put them off their length so he?ll be disappointed that?s the way he has to go.

BJ:
This is going to be an important time in the match for Australia as they need to stay disciplined in their stroke play and score at around a run a ball but they also have to put the bad ball away when it?s there. Damien Martyn is the new man in Junior, how do you see him contributing to the Australians run chase?

MW:
Im a bit worried about this as Damien Martyn is known as a man that crumbles under pressure a bit. He usually plays his best innings when the Australians are on top where as a situation like this can get the best of him and has numerous times in the past. It?s going to be an interesting passage of play.

BJ:
And with that in mind we?ll cross back to the action in Kuala Lumpur with Damien Martyn the new batsmen on strike to off spinner Chris Gayle.

Heres hoping that Gayle snatches a quick few wickets and Windies winning the match comfortably! :D Top stuff mate.

The arrival of Damien Martyn to the crease brought nothing out of the ordinary for Australia as they continued to move along at around about the same run rate. At the half way mark of the run chase the match is still 50/50 and up for the taking with the Australians at 2/118 requiring another 140 runs to win at 5.60 an over. A few tense moments followed as Powell and then Gayle appealed for LBW but both were turned down and the Australian skipper lived on in what is a vital innings to the team.

Runako Morton was recalled into the attack for the 28th over after his success with the ball earlier in the innings with the wicket of Adam Gilchrist. It seemed like the perfect time for Lara to make the bowling change, as the Australians would shortly target the slow off spin of Morton in a bid to up the run rate that was slipping away. It went exactly as scripted for the West Indies as Damien Martyn who has crumbled under pressure in the past many times did it again as he went aerial from a leg stump ball. It was Fidel Edwards coming off the boundary rope quickly sprinting into the falling ball and before the Kuala Lumpur crowd knew it Edwards had the dive out to reel in a stunning catch to dismiss Martyn for just 8 runs.

2 wickets in the space of 5 overs may mean that the momentum swings back in favour of the West Indies which is very important as we start to get down to the business end of this match. The runs and balls required are now almost even which is a sure sign that this match is taking another turn as the West Indies bowlers are staring to dry up the runs. Andrew Symonds is going to have to face the music now with Australia desperately needing someone to stand up along with the skipper Ricky Ponting.

Brendan Julian:
Welcome back as Australia slip into a bit of trouble with the run rate as well as losing their 3rd wicket in the space of 5 overs. Can you pick a winner in this one Junior?

Mark Waugh:
I kow that I?ve been saying Australia by how many all day but it?s definitely starting to get a bit close for comfort as the West Indies start to get on top. Another wicket now could bring the house down.

BJ:
You called it earlier Junior. Damien Martyn just isn?t great under pressure is he?

MW:
Yeah I sore that one coming from the time that he walked out into the middle. He just played a rash shot and paid the price as Edwards took a good catch in the outfield.

BJ:
That 5 month break from cricket for Australia is showing in this game. How important is this series for Australia?s Ashes hopes?

MW:
Without this series the Australia would only be playing a few games in the Champions Trophy and they it would straight into the Ashes a bit under done so this series is very important to get rid of the rust in the games of the Australians. They can play better cricket then they are today so the only way is up from here.

BJ:
Let?s rejoin play now with Andrew Symonds the new batsmen.

ahhh come on Australia cut the silly shots and wrap up the match.

good work Shorty.
