SUNDAY FRIENDLY PREVIEW

BFN Bombers vs Old Wulfs
Ground: Old Wulfs CG

It's a tough game against the Old Wulfs, at their ground which is expected to have a hard and fast pitch set for us. This will favour their better batting to a great extent so bowling will be a bit tougher. Recently the Old Wulfs have come off of a 5 match losing streak against league rivals Batmen. Us on the other hand are unbeaten in the league since sometime last season, but friendlies often put a block up now and then.

Looking at the ratings from the last league games:

It can be said, that batting wise we are outclassed, but in the bowling department we can possibly launch a challenge, but our bowling isn't significantly better that we will be able to get wickets easily. It's going to be a tough game, and the Old Wulfs are still the better side on paper, but if form comes into play, it could be anyone's match.

Expected line-up:Expected line-up : Nicholls, Gore, Mainey, Spiller, Barnard, Furlong, Noon(+), Samuel, Sing (*), Breen, Bird.

My game against the Old Wulfs has just started!

Welcome to Old Wulfs CG for the match between Old Wulfs and BFN Bombers.

We can tell you that Old Wulfs won the toss and elected to field. The pitch is looking a cracker! Hard and fast - should be a run-fest out there on this partially cloud day.

Old Wulfs have selected Muir, Mason, Gilroy, Stiles, Basson, Heath, Fieldwick, Stone, Otto, Hemmings, Dodd.

BFN Bombers have picked Nicholls, Gore, Mainey, Spiller, Barnard, Furlong, Noon, Samuel, Singh, Breen, Bird.

So were batting first, hopefully we can capatilise here, and get some runs on the board to make the chase difficult.

2.6 W Otto to Nicholls
Stumped him! Nicholls crept down the wicket and missed that one by a mile or more.

Soft dismissal really, should have done abit better too.....

End of Over 5: 19-1, runrate=3.80
Otto 3-0-15-1
Gore* 10 (15 balls)
Mainey 2 (3 balls)
Last Wicket: Nicholls st. Basson b. Otto 6 (FOW: 11/1)

Not the best of starts so far, youth player Nicholls falls early. For now we should just try to build rather than go beserk and lose more wickets cheaply.

12.2 W Stone to Gore
Basson is celebrating. He thinks that got an edge on the way through. And the umpire agrees!

We now stare deeply into the boukevard of broken dreams, thats our best batsman gone now.... Brings in all-rounder Barnard, hopefully he can make a stand here.

End of Over 15: 52-3, runrate=3.47
Stone 3-0-11-1
Barnard* 7 (8 balls)
Spiller 13 (33 balls)

After 15 overs its not too bad, we still can attempt a decent score from here, although our chances of winning are rather slim.

28.6 . Hemmings to Spiller
Spiller pushes for a quick single. But he is sent back as Stone threatens a quick throw.
28.5 2 Hemmings to Spiller
He's drifted down leg and is lucky it's only two runs.
28.4 6 Hemmings to Spiller
Hemmings has taken to throwing pies. Spiller gobbled that one up. Six runs.
28.3 1 Hemmings to Barnard
Gently played to long on for a single.
28.2 4 Hemmings to Barnard
Shot! Barnard does some gardening while Mason retrieves that one from the boundary.
And that's his fifty! Well played.
28.1 6 Hemmings to Barnard
Two steps down the pitch, a big swing of the arms and the ball is sent packing back over Hemmings's head!

That was a rather nice over, and brings Barnard his maiden 50! Well done lad!

End of Over 30: 122-3, runrate=4.07
Stiles 10-1-27-1
Spiller* 32 (79 balls)
Barnard 56 (52 balls)
Last Wicket: Gore c. Basson b. Stone 19 (FOW: 43/3)

Seems the lads are wanting to accelerate things a bit now, I just hope these two can keep on going.

Way ta go Barnard!
EDIT: For some reason thought this was the commentary thread...:p

The players are off the field for the break between innings.

End of Over 48: 192-10, runrate=4.00
Hemmings 8-0-57-3
Furlong* 33 (31 balls)

192 is a defendable total, but with the Wulf's batting this won't be a walk in the park.... Samuel and Singh need to have a good day today, with some bak-up from Bird if we want to take anything away from this match.

11.3 W Bird to Muir
That's in the air and...... out! Mainey won't get an easier catch all game.

Thank goodness! Muir was sending us to all corners!

14.1 W Barnard to Gilroy
Outside edge, Gore waiting for it at backward point and an easy catch as Gilroy makes his way back to the changing room.

My word! Barnard scores runs and takes a wicket in a match! Could luck be on our side today?

End of Over 15: 78-3, runrate=5.20, reqrunrate=3.29 (192-10)
Barnard 1-0-4-1
Stiles* 4 (10 balls)
Basson 2 (3 balls)

Now that we've taken a few wickets that run rate is beginning to drop and it couldn't have happened at a better time.

17.6 . Bird to Basson
Nipped back, on the back foot, defends to the off.
17.5 . Bird to Basson
Advanced, played out to the on, Bird running in to field the ball.
17.4 . Bird to Basson
Great line and length there from the bowler, and very well played by Basson, looking very solid in defense. Good cricket all round.
17.3 . Bird to Basson
Basson is looking at his bat like it has a hole in it - that last delivery went straight through him!
17.2 . Bird to Basson
Good line and length from Bird. Making Basson play for his runs.
17.1 1 Bird to Stiles
Fielded by Spiller at deep square leg. Probably could have had two, they were guilty of not running the first one hard enough.

This over from Bird testifies how tight the bowling is and how hard it is for the batsmen to score, and long as it stays like this we may just well win this!

Banard got Gilroy!!!
MOTM fer sure, that wicket may have just won you the match!!

After a rather dismal bit of bowling in the middle overs we got this,
33.6 . Bird to Heath
Shortish, lifting ball on off stump. Poked down towards point in defence.
33.5 . Bird to Heath
A good fielder at point can save a lot of runs.
33.4 . Bird to Heath
Tight, shortish ball just outside off stump. The batsman tries to cut but, with little room to free his arms, he chops it into the ground instead. The ball rolls away tamely to point.
33.3 W Bird to Stiles
Nicholls doesn't drop those.
33.2 1 Bird to Basson
Dabbed to point for a quick single. Mainey shies at the non-striker's end but misses.
33.1 6 Bird to Basson
My word, a huge hit from Basson off a short Bird delivery. I think that one'll need clearence from air traffic control!

Over started off badly but had a rather nice end. Consolation wicket however, Stiles ran rampant between over 20 and 30, and put on a match winning 100 run partnership with Basson.

End of Over 35: 178-4, runrate=5.09, reqrunrate=1.00 (192-10)
Breen 6-0-31-0
Heath* 3 (8 balls)
Basson 36 (58 balls)
Last Wicket: Stiles c. Nicholls b. Bird 63 (FOW: 174/4)

They can just plod to victory from here onwards, its a pity we let things get away from us.

EDIT:

End of Over 36: 187-5, runrate=5.19, reqrunrate=0.43 (192-10)
Bird 8-0-39-3
Heath* 5 (10 balls)
Fieldwick 0 (0 balls)
Last Wicket: Basson c. Mainey b. Bird 43 (FOW: 187/5)
35.6 W Bird to Basson
And that's out! Shorter ball, cut in the air and straight to Mainey at point!

Two new batsmen in! Not going to win the match though, although it could just make the loss more bearable.

And that's the end of the match. Old Wulfs won by 5 wickets.
BFN Bombers 192-10
Old Wulfs 194-5

Old Wulfs take victory, in the end it was rather convincing, partly due to a horrible spell of bowling in the middle overs.

your bowling was abysmal in the middle, need to improve lol

still better than me so congrats on great league position:p
