Story Brendon vs Callum vs Jono - A Worcestershire Battle

Last season it was my batting that was a fail, while my bowling was solid as.
This season Richardson and Arif have been absolute fails, and despite picking up three solid domestic bowlers, my bowling's been all at sea.
It makes no sense really...

their no name attack
A couple of brief comments on the Unicorns? no-name attack.

Chris Peploe in real life averages 23.36 in List A at 4.38 economy. If you get as far as next off-season and he?s available, you could do worse?

And Carl Greenidge, who fits the ?no-name? description in spirit, escapes it on a technicality, being the son of the legendary Gordon.:p

btw Aimson played one test and scored to half centuries to average like 60 in tests :)

Good news for Worcestershire, but a bad selection that pays off is still a bad selection. I still say England should never've hired Hilditch...:spy

----------

Six specialist batsmen are averaging over 40 this season, and they've all got over four stars of form, but I can only play five of them.

Go on, play them all! Mitchell and Solanki opening, and Solanki keeping if necessary:lol. As you say, it's a great problem to have. ;)

I could drop Wright as well, but he's also averaging over 40 with the bat, and he provides a more than adequate fifth bowling option.

Ideally though five specialist batsmen, one all-rounder, one keeper, and four bowlers seems like a nice formula to work with FC and OD.

I'll probably to chuck in Christian for the T20s instead of one of my "defensive" batsmen, as that will give me a genuine sixth bowling option.

Reaction:

Wow, what a win.

At two stages in the match we were dead and buried, but somehow we got up to win rather easily in the end.

On an absolute road we won the toss and chose to bat, but it turned pear shaped rather quickly, as we were rolled without even picking up one bonus point.

They were then cursing at 191 for four, having just taking over our first innings total, but that inspired spell of pace bowling I was looking for finally occurred, as they lost their last six wickets for nine runs.

We were then gone at 115 for six, only leading by 104 runs, but an incredible 137 run seventh wicket partnership propelled us up to 291, setting them 281 for victory in over four sessions.

When we got a few early wickets I began to realise we should we the match, and for the second innings in a row their middle - lower order self-destructed, with their bottom five scoring a grand total of six runs in the match.

For the first time this season my batsmen really struggled, but also for the first time this season my pace bowlers did something really worthwhile.

Also Alan Darbon has been selected for England, for the ODIs against Sri Lanka. In 14 FC matches he's averaging 57, and in 12 OD matches he's averaging 45.

I also had Sehwag and Vettori away on international duty too. Haven't looked at any ratings, but I would guess Aimson's would be quite high to be selected for England with a batting average of 35. Though he was averaging something like 80 for the season.

How many matches am I behind now?

My bowling seems to the problem normally. Though my batting was suffering before with Aimson away and Ali injured.

woops typo :p

An average of 35 would be great for a NZer :spy

Essex win by 7 wickets

It's rather hard winning OD matches when you only have one bowler who actually does well in them. This was more of the same, losing a OD match by a big margin. Aimson and Mitchell swapping places did pretty well, but Ali and Solanki were unable to provide support when they were out and it was up to Kervezee and O'Brien to steer us to a semi-decent total. On his OD return Ireland wasn't too bad, but Richardson and all the part-timers got smacked around, with Essex winning with plenty of time left over.

Worcestershire won by an innings and 145 runs

MOTM:

Calvin Flowers (8/71 and 7/47)

Points:

Worcestershire 23
Leicestershire 1

Comments:

Well enough talking about Flowers as he adds another 15 wickets to his tally. Great batting with 3 centurians, a different sight from the last game from where 5 players past 50 but noone could score a century. Adler and Choudhry also batted well scoring 65* and 54 respectively. Moore and Wheeldon failed though and Wheeldon will likely be dropped below Adler after he had scored 87 and 65* in his last 2 innings.

btw 6ry4nj, what was that about Whelan making us pay. He's averaging over 100 with the ball this season.

MOTM:

Chris Nash (0/32, 135, 0/20 and 10)

Reaction:

What a dismal effort, against the team one place above us on the table.

Our batting failed to fire for the second match a row, and dispite playing a get our of jail free card in their first innings, we failed to take advantage of the situtaion.

Our first innings of 274 was well under par. Excluding Raval who made 62, everyone else from 2 - 8 made at least 14, but no one went past 36.

We were looking down a massive deficient when they were going along comfortably at 266 for 3, but their middle - lower order fell apart, and we were still in the game when they were dismissed for 316.

Sadly we were playing catch-up from there though. We lost four wickets before wiping off the small deficient, and despite getting a total on the board, it was never going to trouble their batting line-up with a specialist batsman down at eight.
