Somerset win by 2 wickets

An incredibly close match which we lost in the end. Batting first, Rush scored his second century in as many matches to skyrocket his average towards 100. Mitchell played a decent knock, while Kelly showed some form down the order as the Vics took us close to 400. In their first innings, Ireland made early breakthroughs, but Ripley and Compton made a formidable team, and we were not able to remove them easily. Eventually Ripley was dismissed, and we just began attacking that end, to leave Compton unbeaten at the other end. Rush departed early, but Mitchell and Ali put on an aggressive partnership, with Ali showing signs of his earlier form in his century. The lower order crumbled however, and we were dismissed late in the first session of the fourth day. They therefore had 2 sessions to chase 260. They started out very aggressively, but quick wickets slowed them down. This rapid beginning meant that they could relax a bit over the latter half of the chase, and despite a number of wickets falling, Compton and later London showed patience at the crease to guide Somerset home with 2 wickets and a few overs remaining.

Yea both of his first innings he's scored a century, and then failed in the second innings. And Aimson's been called up for international duty again annoyingly.

Reaction:

They only played two specialist bowlers, so it would have been a joke if we didn't win.

We've now jumped up from 8th place to 4th place, but only four points separate those five places.

Also in his second team debut, Vikram Solanki got injured for four weeks.

Reaction:

There's not much you can do when you're 47 for five and you're playing four specialist bowlers. The game was already lost at that point, but some lower order fight and some alright bowling meant out NRR didn't get hurt that much.

We're still on-top of our group on NRR despite back-to-back loses, but Yorkshire are breathing right down our neck on equal points.

Comments:

Calvin Flowers, the man who has become the most feared spinner in the world, or England at least. Not that his World Cup campaign wasn't impressive with 14 wickets @ 14.07. He now takes his FC wicket tally to 136 wickets at an average of 13.75, with 18 5wi and 9 10wm. Our first batting innings was characterised by a number of starts but noone went on to make a high score. Norris and Ali scored 60, Kervezee and Adler scored in the 40's, Kervezee now with 4 consecutive scores in the 40's (not counting the 2* he made in the second innings). Mitchell also made 36 and Pears made a handy 26 down the order, his first contribution with the bat for the club. Clarkson's debut was unimpressive though, scoring only 1. He won't likely be retained at the end of the season unless he can prove himself in a couple of matches that he may play later in the season.

Lol, in real life Calvin Flowers hasn't even played in the top tier of domestic cricket in South Africa, what a joke...

Worcestershire win by 33 runs

Two wins in a row! Our batting clicked almost perfectly as we wracked up 263, and despite a small scare, we won by 33 runs. Kelly at the top was given license to swing and this came off perfectly, as he scored 58 from 38 to give our innings momentum. Mitchell played pretty well for his 40, but Ali was amazing in his 83 from just 59 balls. O'Brien had some fun with 48 from 37, but we couldn't capitalise at the end, with the last 6 all getting single digit scores. Still, we had a pretty formidable total. Rankin and Finn make some early breakthroughs, but Wainwright and Rashid but on a century partnership for the seventh wicket that caused some worries. Shahzad got in on the hitting, but Finn was able to wrap up the tail despite being extremely expensive in his 7 overs.

Comments:

Well it was a match we should have won and did with ease. Moore fired with a stunning century, while Stafford and Choudhry also played well. Pears attacked the stumps, getting 4 of his 5 wickets either LBW or bowled while Flowers came on and just ripped through Scotland taking 5 wickets in 2.4 overs. Only 2 players on their team scored more than 10, although there was only one duck. 4 people scored 2 runs though.

Match Drawn

We should really have won this match but I got a bit greedy and let O'Brien and Kervezee bat a tad too long in the second innings... In the first innings Mitchell was out first ball, and Rush followed soon afterwards. Ali and O'Brien played great counterattacking innings however, with Ali reaching 132 and O'Brien 94. Later, Wheeldon showed that he wasn't bad with the bat either, reaching his maiden century a ball before Rankin was out LBW to end the innings. Because of the speed at which Ali and O'Brien had batted we managed to get the full allotment of batting points. Their new batsman Slade but up a lot of resistance, but we just attacked the other end, with Rankin showing some form with 6 wickets. Komasaru was also pretty good, but Finn was expensive in his spell. The wicket seemed much better for batting in our second innings, with Rush scoring his obligatory century, before O'Brien came and smashed 176 off 197, with Kervezee hitting 81 off 105. After they had a bit of fun, we declared leaving them 500 to chase in a day, an impossible task. Still, with a day to bowl them out, we fancied our chances of winning this match, and it looked good from the start with Finn bowling Ali in the second over. After that it was tougher however, with Hamish Marshall putting up tough resistance and we were eventually held to a draw.

His figures look somewhat weird, averaging in the 60s after 6 innings with 3 centuries and no fifties.

Worcestershire win by 21 runs

Another OD win makes this three in a row. Mitchell was really slow at the top of the order, but playing Kelly as an aggressive opener has worked once again, with him smashing a 43 ball 57 in the fielding restrictions. Rush then came out and showed some of his FC form with a run a ball 84, while Ali and O'Brien smashed the ball at the other end to take us to 252, which is a pretty decent score. Our bowling wasn't too flash, with Bragg and Bannister smashing Finn and Rankin around, but Wheeldon came on and despite being expensive took crucial wickets that took the fight out of them. We eventually won by 21 runs. This moves us up to second to last, but the last placed Gloucestershire have two games in hand.
