I saw no immediate need to change the lineup, despite us losing the last match.

Lost the toss and was put into bat. Hall's opening over was very tight, with only 5 singles coming from it. Both batsman did not want to lose their wicket cheaply, and so played rather cautiously. Solanki was however caught in the deep for 16 off 15. With his wicket, boundaries dried up for a few overs, as Jayasuriya found his feet. Once he found them however, he started hitting balls to the boundary frequently. Boje was smashed around the park, but Lucas managed to bowl an inswinging yorker that Jayasuriya was not able to hit, departing for 22 off 16. Kervezee departed first ball, but Arif was determined to stay around for longer, despite numerous edges. Lucas was especially good at this, with many plays and misses off his bowling as well. Smith was very impressive at the crease, reaching his second half century of the season. He looked extremely comfortable against spin, but Arif perished to Boje. This brought Ali to the crease and he hit four fours in a row to get off the mark. He was providing much needed impetus as we challenged ourselves to reach a good score. Smith joined in the fun, hitting one Middlebrook over for 21 as he finished on his highest T20 score of 85. Ali departed in the last over for 30 off 14, but he had made a valuable contribution to our final score of 171/5.

Loye looked in great touch at the crease, effortlessly hitting fours. O'Brien was significantly less comfortable, and he top edged a pull shot to be out in the fourth over. Arif got Sales out in his first over, but despite this Loye continued onwards unimpeded. He made his way to 39 off only 23 balls, before Arif struck twice in his second over to remove both Hall and Loye. Vincent departed to a good catch in the deep, also to Arif and it looked as if the match was all but over. Someone didn't tell the tail this however, and Middlebrook and Lucas put on a good partnership to bring the rate down to 13 from the last over. This was to be bowled by Arif, who had had much success earlier in the innings. He managed to induce 3 played and misses, until the rate was 12 from 2 balls. These were managed carefully to allow them to only score one run as we won by 10 runs.

It was a good match overall, with good contributions with the bat from most, but special applause must go to Steven Smith. With the ball, Arif was unlucky to miss out on his five wicket haul, but it was an extremely good performance nonetheless, especially as previously he had been picked because of his batting. Despite this win we are still in last place, tied on points with both Derbyshire and Warwickshire. Hopefully we can improve and place ahead of them.

For me Jayasuriya's doing pretty well recently, and Jaques is on international duty meaning we can't play him.

Jayasuriya is a great bowler for me, but as batsmen, he pinch hits a couple of boundaries then gets out all the time.

Ben Smith comes back into the team based on second team form. Other than that we are unchanged as we hope to continue our good run of form.

I won the toss and decided to bowl. Madsen managed to whack a six square of the wicket, but Mason showed that our decision to bowl was justified as he dismissed Bosman in the second over. Madsen was lucky to still be at the crease when he was dropped at slip by Smith. Hopefully that wouldn't cost us in the long run. Having had his reprieve, Madsen had fun against Mason, until he finally missed one to be bowled for an entertaining 23. Dursten looked in good form until he was out to Arif, his second wicket after he had had Smith out LBW the over before. Wheeldon came on for a change of pace, and immediately had Sadler caught behind. The rest of his over was expensive however and he was taken off in favour of Jayasuriya. Clare and Goddard had been building up a good partnership but Jayasuriya managed to nab Goddard's wicket with the last ball of his over. Despite these wickets, Derbyshire were piling on the runs at a quick rate. Clare brought up his half century off 31 runs, as Derbyshire finished on 180/7.

Smith, our best batsman, was out in the fourth over for only 14, and I could see it was going to be very difficult to win. Jayasuriya came and went, as did Kervezee, with Langeveldt taking a hattrick in his second over. On the first ball of the next over, Clare trapped Solanki in front, and we were 28/4 having lost 4 wickets in 4 balls. Arif and Ali stayed around for a while before Arif chipped a ball back to Wagg, the bowler. However in scoring his 10 runs, Arif became the second highest scorer in T20s for us this season. At this point we had no hope of winning, with 122 runs required from ten overs. This doesn't mean the batsman didn't want to try however, as Manuel hit 6 fours in getting to 26 off 11, before getting out. Once he fell however Ali fell too, with Mason falling the ball after. Wheeldon was then bowled by Wagg as we were all out for 106.

Arif had shown some good form with the ball, and Manuel looked in good touch for a while with the bat. Apart from them however, we had nothing to celebrate after that match, as we got hammered by the Derbyshire lower order.

Reaction:

Lol, again...

They batted first, and absolutely hammered us. They raced to over 400 inside the first day, as all of our bowlers went for over 3.8 runs an over. We fought back with some quick lower order wickets, but the damage had already been done on a pitch that should of offered some assistance for our bowlers.

When our turn at batting came around, only Phil Jaques put his hand up. We collapsed to a very poor 291, and were forced to follow on. We done even worse in our second innings, Phil Jaques was clean bowled first ball, and after that it just went down hill. A few players in our middle order got starts, but no one managed to push on to 50. In the end we were dismissed, with a lead of only eight runs.

There were no surprises when they knocked those eight runs off without losing any wickets, and we fell to a huge defeat. Andrew McDonald was named man of the match for his 100 and four wickets, as Leicestershire who were in eighth place moved up to seventh, and we were now 20 points off Sussex who had fallen to eighth.

Now we head back into the T20 stuff, after two massive defeats in a row.
